Looking for some thoughts on the Eventlab(s) I’ve made.
For some context, originally I was wanting to make a small test track circuit based at the main Horizon Festival site so that I could test out car upgrades and tuning on the same road conditions I’d find in the rest of the game. I like the design of the festival site so wanted to keep that aesthetic and just use the natural road layouts around it. I also wanted a loop that was around 1 minute to complete in most A class cars (so that when tuning I could quickly turn 2-3 laps and get back to make tweaks).
Originally the circuit started life with walls up to the edge of the circuit but I found it didn’t flow very well and I always wanted to include curbs and make it feel more like a real world track. Since EventLab 2.0 arrived I’ve found it a lot easier to add some of the features I wanted so I got to reworking it pushing the walls out creating some run off areas and adding curbs as an extension of the track which I feel helps it flow a little better.
I’d love to take it a step further and sort out some custom rules for sector timing but I’ve not quite figured that out yet…
The first code is for a 5 lap single car track day style event: 116 715 481
The second code is for a 4 lap 4 car (unbeatable difficulty) race: 283 722 196
Not a fan of start/finish straight. It is too distracting(?) for me. Maybe it is the lights? maybe that “paintings” on ground?
Curbs are a bit unforgiving on regular HMC corners.
Could be longer. And would like to use different last corner.
Liked elevation changes and overall aesthetic.
9.5/10, would recommend and would happily see that track in Festival Playlist.
Thanks for taking the time to give it a go and give some feedback, it’s really appreciated!
Yep totally agree about the paintings. I wish there was a way to cover them up, the only thing I could think of was to lay a new road just over the top which would achieve that but I couldn’t make it neat enough. It’s a shame because I’d really like to erase them and then put some grid markings down. Similarly I’d love to do some white line markings to denote the track limits too all the way around.
I’ve toiled over the curbs for many a night trying to get them functionally and aesthetically right and yeah I get you, I’m still only like 80% happy with them myself. In fact I’ve made some notes on my phone of places where I want to extend/alter them. In terms of harshness do you mean the inclusion of the sausage curbs?
The last corner is a bit of a thorn in my side and I don’t really see a way I’ll ever be happy with it. I think I’d like the inside of the corner to go all the way up to the physical barrier but then I’d have to lay tarmac over the dirt and I feel it would end up looking like a patchwork quilt. Similarly on the exit of the corner I’d like that to be a bit wider but I’m a bit limited with the existing festival barriers. Driving an A class car I currently feel like it’s a little bit too disruptive, it’s too fast a corner to brake but often at full speed I either oversteer or understeer. The answer is obvious, flatten the corner more so I probably need to spend more time looking at how I can achieve that cleanly
9.5/10 is a mega score thank you! For info, this is currently version 13 of the circuit, and I built it using an A class Caterham as a test car.
Yeah, these ones.
In 1st corner they bump you heavily outside, but I guess that might be “me issue”, cause I’m trying to take regular HMC line (dipping right wheels into dirt/grass).
Was thinking more about that 2nd “regular HMC” corner. That one on bridge. It is very easy to take exit too wide. But maybe that is “me issue” too? Track limits are track limits
There is always option for longer version and doing bigger loop, so for example it would use that road entering from left side on start/finish straight. That one on the other side of the plane.
It is also mega subjective
There were some super impressive eventlabs (cites, monuments, recreated tracks, etc.), but they are just not really my cup of tea.
Creating interesting track/rally stage/etc with usage of regular map roads will always have higher ranking for me
