For me, the rarest car in the game is a barn find, and I think it’s the AMC Pacer X. I’ve checked the Autoshow and also the Auction House, but it doesn’t seem to exist. Yet I’ve looked through these forums and it appears it was a Barn Find Rumour that was unlockable via a Forzathon event.
That would explain why I haven’t unlocked it yet. I’ve finished all events in the main game, and unlocked all the barn finds for both the Hot Wheels and Blizzard Mountain expansions, and yet I still have one empty barn find slot. I’m hoping it’s the AMC Pacer.
I’ve also seen that there’s an achievement for an upcoming Forzathon (March 30th - April 6th), which unlocks a Barn Find Rumour, so I’m hoping it’s the AMC Pacer X.
You sure you’re talking about the right game? I’m pretty sure the maximum value put on a car is 20 mil, and I think you need a VIP membership for that.
As for the topic of this discussion: there’s a lot of contenders for the rarest cars in the game, and I too am struggling to figure out which one is the definitive rarest car. I did an analysis for this. Here’s how it went:
I looked up every Forzathon event in history and filtered out the Forzathon cars, then filtered out the ones that have been only been available for one Forzathon event. I also included the Ram Runner HE, since the only way to get it is through completing the BM expansion. After this, I looked up the current lineup of cars that are available through wheelspins, and filtered out those cars from the lineup as well (the reason being that you can buy wheelspins at any given time, so you can unlock these cars at any given time). I also included the Mazda RX-7 from the cars you can get for completing Midnight battles. Why the Mazda in particular? Simple: the other 3 cars can be found relatively cheaply on the AH, while the Mazda goes for at least 3 mil if you’re lucky, but usually up to 20 mil. Speaking of the auction house, I made that one my final factor of rarity. At this point, I have 10 different cars in my lineup of rarest cars in the game, 5 of which are HE cars. One of the cars I included from Forzathon was the Bentley GT3, but I found those for pretty cheap prices, so that one’s out. Then there’s some of the HE cars: the GTR R35 HE, '69 Camaro HE, '12 Mini HE and '14 M4 HE. I was able to find these cars for their minimum price tag, so these also fall off. Then there’s the RX-7 and '04 Porsche 911 GT3. The RX-7 can only be won by winning a midnight battle, and the Porsche, at the time of writing this comment, has only been in a single Forzathon event, and is almost never available on the AH. Now, the RX-7 occasionally does appear, so against the 911 GT3, the RX-7 is more common, as much as I hate to say it, considering I sold mine and had to pay 3-5 million CR to get it back after I realized my mistake. Now we’re getting closer to the definitive rarest car in the game, but there’s 4 more left. It’s that 911 GT3, but also the Ram Runner HE and two other Porsches. For all of these, except the 911 GT3, you have to pay actual money, but for the Ram, you also have to complete an entire DLC before you can get it, which already means it’s harder to get than the two Porsches, since you only had to include two events to earn those. Also, the DLC expansion costs just as much as a VIP membership, so the Ram Runner definitely trumps the 928 and 914 here. This is sort of where my analysis ends, and the battle for rarest car is between the '04 Porsche 911 GT3 and Ram Runner HE. The Ram costs actual money and needs more work put into it, but is available once you finish the BM expansion, which you can always do. The Porsche can only be unlocked through Forzathon, and has only been in one event thus far. So the question remains: which of the two is the rarest? I think it’s the Porsche, because it’s possible this car won’t be featured in Forzathon anymore, and will only be available through the AH, at 20M price tags, if someone is even willing to sell theirs in general. The Ram Runner is also pretty difficult to find, but there’s no time limit to when you can unlock it. You get it once you finish the BM expansion, and you can do that whenever you want, assuming you have the expansion at all.
So yeah, for those who just wanna know what I think is the rarest car in the game: 2004 Porsche 911 GT3, but basically tied with the Ram Runner HE. If the Porsche gets featured in a Forzathon event after this comment is posted, my choice is the Ram Runner for rarest car.
I recently acquired all of the rare cars, mostly through the auction house, and none for “legendary” prices. The ‘04 GT3 is not that rare. In my experience, they just get bought instantly, much like the Lola, 94 Silvia Ks, and Merc SEL. But I saw far, far fewer 928s and 914s. They were only offered in one Forzathon and only for VIPs. If you hang out in the AH for a while, you’ll probably see at least 10 GT3s (probably more) for every 928 or 914. You just have to refresh frequently, as the auctions are over in the blink of an eye
Now the Blizzard cars and RX-7 are “rare” in the auction house at reasonable prices, albeit less so the Mazda. I look at these differently because anyone can still get one through standard gameplay. So putting those aside, I’d rank:
Most rare: 928, 914/6
Slightly less rare: Lola, SEL, Silvia Ks
Less rare but still tricky: basically all the forzathon porsches except the ‘12 GT2
I definitely agree the 928 and 914/6 are some of the rarest cars in the game. The S14 is also pretty difficult to find, despite appearing in at least 3 Forzathon events in the past. On the other hand, I think the S14 has a lot of hype around it, so that could be why so many people sell it for 20 mil
and yeah, I agree that the 2012 GT2 is probably the easiest rare car to get. You can get it through Forzathon, and even if you sold yours, it can easily be found in the AH for a minimum buyout price. What’s up with that?

the rarest cars in the game i have first is the Porsche 928 gts the second is the 914/6 Porsche and the 3rd rarest car in the game is the he ram runner.
a heads up . not sure if it will change or not. but the 914/6 is showing up again later this year.
their was a glitch with he ram runner awhile back. but it was few and far between. it would give you 2 instead of one… so i had 3 total. but hawk 2 later on when prices where not so high.
At the time in 2017 I think the rarest car was the MINI Cooper HE because there was only one

Now that the game has reached End of Life, the rarest car in the game is clearly the 2004 Porsche 911 GT3, as it was only ever offered ONCE for ONE week in June 2017. Arguably, only a small portion of the player base has this car, and are unlikely to want to sell it, so the chances of getting one now are near-impossible. At least it was added to FH4 for everyone who bought the game.
Another close contender is the Porsche 928 GTS, which was only available twice, including once as a VIP Exclusive. Since it wasn’t added into FH4, the only way to experience it in a Horizon game is to have earned it in one of the two #Forzathons or to have been lucky enough to find it in the auction house, though there is also a severely limited stock.
