Hi, so I used to use the full racing line and manual without clutch, all other assists off, and I was doing pretty good. So, I decided to turn off the racing line completely and use manual with clutch. Before I did this, I thought I would become absolutely terrible because I became so reliant on the racing line that told me when to brake and accelerate. But actually, I’m not doing that bad. In fact, I’ve become more consistent, because now I’m less likely to brake late or take a corner too fast, which would happen a lot of times when I used the racing line, resulting in spinning off track. Point is, I encourage others who are otherwise decent at the game but still reliant on the racing line to turn it off and give it a try, you might not be so bad as you think.
Cheers for the info bud will give it a go wish more Forzar’s would share tips and discoveries maybe their could be a thread so we get good information from other racers freely available to allow us to avoid the pitfalls and enjoy more of the best racing game on the planets benefits.
I haven’t used any assists including racing lines since fm3. The braking points are always out anyway. I only recommend new racers use them when online otherwise its carnage…
Yes the line is a massive crutch that I’m ashamed to admit I have used since forza 1. Once p cars comes out I will turn it off day one and same goes for forza 6. Its hard to call it racing when you have a visual indicator telling you when to brake and when you can get back in the throttle
Yeah, I get much more sense of accomplishment getting gold without any assists including the racing line, even if I have to lower the Drivatar difficulty a bit.
Turn it off the day before a league race where the top 10 will be within a second of each other? Haha I don’t wanna hit anyone. I’m too much of a wuss to turn it off now, illbgetba fresh start in March
I have a question about turning the racing line off.
Will I have to memorise every braking point to be competitive? E.g. run through the lap on rivals and remember “OK, I need to brake once I get to this tree, for the next corner I brake at this bush” etc., or does it just come naturally (like karting in real life?).
I am guilty of becoming used to the racing line (I only use it for the corners though, never used the full racing line). Currently I can set times in the top 1% on the leaderboard, but I’m worried that if I switch off the racing line I will have to rewind every other corner after forgetting to brake/missing my braking point.
My main issue is that I don’t think I have time to memorise every braking point on each track. Is that required, or is it done more on instinct?
It comes naturally to a certain extent. But of course, if you want to get to the very top of the leaderboards, you will need to memorize certain points on the track to brake and accelerate at the right moment to have that perfect lap time. I play mostly single player, and will all assists off, I am able to win races on expert and pro drivatar difficulties, and I’m just average by most standards.
the line does not work for me. maybe its my driving or tuneing but for me the line is not the quickest way around the track. heck going up the hill at bathurst after the left into a quick chicane onto the hill top straight i am already turning back left by the time the line tells me to turn right. the weight of the car carries me just wide enough to miss the wall on the left. and i can start down the straight about 20% faster than using the line. i think maybe the line is the safest way around the track rather than the fastest. slow is safe, but fast is fun.
There are other quick ways around the track then using the racing line. And sometimes when you rely on the racing line waiting to change color, you can break too late and go off track, not using the racing line has made me a bit more cautious but more consistent, and my lap times have not really suffered.
None is saying follow the line, but you can still use is as a braking reference. Also when it begins changing colors as you slow if you take notice it pretty much tells you when you can get back on the gas
I think its 0.5 sec of a lap for CAT GP I used to brake was a fresh line of antilocked up brakes in F4 and got pole. IN the race I had no reference point that good and had 3 or 2 cars on me in the race and was lapping 0.5 sec slower.
Also what I do is use other cars brake lights infront of me as reference points if there are a lot or every close to me.
