Long Beach Brake Points

Hey all,
I’ve been starting to toy with getting the braking line turned off, and given we just got this awesome new track, I figured that this would be a great place to start. However I’m having a little trouble finding good reference points. It doesn’t help that the California sun gives everything a bit of a washed out look.
Turn 1 for instance, its hard to pick out the distance markers since they are over on the pit exit lane. Especially with the speed of the Indy and F1 cars. Would love to hear what ppl are using for their ref points on this track.

oh yeah, and Gangi, the gauntlet is thrown on the rivals… Bring it! Track video on isrtv…

In the 70s F1 cars, I break just after the marker that is placed immediately before the black advert on the wall on the right hand side.

ive only done 10 laps in the car, but that seemed to work very well for me

IMO dont bother turning it off … I jump between different cars and different classes and I leave Braking line on, there is no shame in having it on its only a “marker” cause in some cases you can brake a lot deeper

The best take any advantage they can get away with. Leaving the line an is an advantage.

If you want it off, more power to you!

Fair statement, however I feel like the only way to really get to ‘know’ a track is when you take her bra… I mean braking line off

I leave it on but it is manlier to have it off. I used to have fun in private lobbies by turning off all assists and just watching the chaos. It would actually be fun to have a C class hopper with no assists allowed now that I think about it. I’m not disagreeing with you though, it’s tough to switch cars/tracks constantly without the brake line. I’m also never as fast without it.

Most are deffinately faster with it off, but there is a whole new dimension to the game when you take it off.

Exactly, the end of the day we all run these tracks hundreds of times and if you are hot lapping you get into a “rhythm” of how and when to brake turn accelerate.

Hmm I disagree with being faster with it off both on or off can be just as fast, Like I said I have it on but I tend to ignore it most the time, take R class for example, the Saleen S7 you need to brake pretty much as soon as that line goes red, compare that to the new #2 Ferrari and you are half way into the red zone before you are hitting your brakes (ABS off of course)

Cannot disagree I guess there is more satisfaction hooking up a nice lap with no assists and everything off, but we are playing a game and we are in it to win, everything off isnt always going to be the fastest for everyone

The best way to learn your braking points is to practice and pay attention to the clock. If you are in the green you did something right, remembering what you did and trying to recreate it is another story.

I love watching people on Twitch with the lines on. Yep, that line I have NEVER seen on any race replay.
I wonder how much that all that telemetry projection equipment weighs?

I guess the Turn 10 guys are never going to add a column that says whether you use it or not.
I would probably be in the top 10 or 15 instead of 40th.

I e been racing in a series that requires it off. I’ve learned a lot. With it off. New track, or car to a track ill run slows with it off. If its a bit frustrating. I switch it on. Note where I’m braking. Establish a rhythm and switch it off.

Spa’s braking points (except la source - turn one) are way off.

The other thing one can do is watch a replay of someone in the same car as you. If in same tune and same build. Watching and listening can be very good at establishing the flow of gear shifts, breaking points etc.

It forces a feel as if you were really driving the track. And you get very familiar with the car. I almost always end up with my fastest lap in my s class 2013 viper (the car I race in the series) with the line off.

There were some tracks when I wasn’t familiar enough with my car that were a pain for marker and brake points. But I think I rather the line off then on. I use braking line on now about 40-50 percent of the time.

You get more track awareness and get much better at judging braking as you would driving for real with it off. Which helps greatly when there are other cars on the track.

I use it as tool of learning now or if I’m on line in a hopper switching cars up.

It was a pretty big crutch. I would drop 2 secs with it off at first and make lots more mistakes. Then after tons of laps the speed slowly picked up and I would make some break through a and end up faster than when I started.

I’m at over 5k miles. In my viper now for 5 - 30 lap races. It’s not for the faint of heart and it is just easier with it on.
