What are your thoughts? I recently started using them and they def help with my consistency. It’s mainly the braking that’s the big plus. Only other assist I use is traction control.
nope it isn’t cheating or unfair
I used braking only in Forza 3 & for while in Forza 4 then decided to ditch the line
It’s not cheating. It’s a game… It doesn’t take a terribly long time to learn a track anyway, so keeping it on for consistency’s sake is widely popular.
I believe one will be able to get better laptimes without the line. Once you get familiar with the track.
After a certain point, it doesn’t matter. It’s not so much how it affects potential pace, but how it affects consistency. You’re a lot more likely to miss a corner with the line off, but a perfect lap is a perfect lap regardless.
I like to use the racing line to help me see where the blind corners are.
The blinding sunlight on a lot of tracks, especially on some hard corners, is not appreciated.
When racing with the AI in Career, like to know where the AI is going to try to race.
The AI seem to be more aggressive in the Career Races.
I also use ABS Braking on RWD cars in the higher Classes like A Class or above.
Have you turned off your camera effects by chance? It really kills the glare on the tracks that have it.
It’s not cheating if it’s in the game already. It’s just another aid that some use and some don’t. I used the braking line only for the longest of time, but then I started to race without it in Horizon 2 and came back to Forza 4 today actually for achivement hunting and rewards more or less and still had the braking line on and it totally threw me off. While the braking line does assist the player in knowing when to brake, I think that it slows you down a bit because it comes on sometimes when you really don’t need to brake. But if you feel comfortable with it, then keep using it.
It will come on at unnecessary times, but it doesn’t take more than a few laps to figure out where braking is unnecessary.
Both in real life and in the game, drivers pick track side references to start braking. I don’t use the line, since I prefer to keep forza as close to life as I can (for instance I ALWAYS drive from the interior view), but there is little functional difference between using the line and using a track side distance board (it is quite annoying when drivers knock those out) or a tree. In practice, though, I would be more consistent with the line, especially when driving a lot of different cars back to back as I like to do, which all have different braking points. However, to think that using the line would make you faster is…unlikely.
Or people like me who have very bad vision due to old age I suspect.
It’s not cheating, but it’s an assist for people who are new to racing games.
When I’m driving a real car, I can feel the G forces pulling the car as I brake, turn, and accelerate. I use these cues to decide how I should turn, and whether I should slow down or speed up.
Because it’s a video game, I no longer have these cues. The brake line gives me something similar to this. Thus, I use the brake line to supplement what the game cannot provide. It is the only assist I use.
no. the racing line may be the safest way around the track but its certainly not the fastest. and its very conservative when it comes to braking with a well tuned car. after enough laps obeying it becomes a handicap not an assist. if it helps you use it, when you find it slowing you down ignore it. and i dont think it takes aero into account. many corners it stays red all the way thru, lifiting on the gas is enough no brakes needed like on mugello and suska.
I use the braking line only as I jump from class to class and there is no replace ment for the feel of the g forces of trning or steering and I have found that some of the visual ques to help in actual racing are either not there or not placed in the same place
recently I have noticed I actually brake well with in the red marker. I am going to start racing with out the braking lines and see what happens.
