Question/Suggestion regarding the "Xbox Game Family Sharing" feature

I have a few questions regarding how this works and a suggestion on how cross progression should work if you own the game/dlc on multiple platforms.

I only have one account, there aren’t any other family members / secondary accounts playing the game. I don’t do any game share.

I am subscribed to Game Pass Ultimate but pre-ordered the Premium Edition on Steam.

When I first started playing the game (on Steam) and logged in with my Xbox account, all available dlc cars got added to my garage twice. I could access one version of each car whereas the duplicates weren’t selectable. Instead there was a pop up that said that I had bought the dlc on another platform and I would have to buy it again.

When I switched to my Series X (set as home console) in my living room and logged in with the same account I use on Steam, I immediately had VIP benefits like the 2x credits bonus.

Is this how the game family sharing works? Is the Steam version supposed to be included in the Xbox Game Family Sharing feature, even though it’s another platform and store?

However I did not want to waste any ingame credits to unlock any of the dlc cars for Xbox again, so I bought the Premium Upgrade for that platform.

Now I can select the dlc cars on both platforms, however I’d have to level each version of any dlc car individually, despite the game having cross saves/cross progression. Am I correct?

If this is intended, I’d like to suggest a change to let the progression and customization for dlc cars carry over. I bought the Premium upgrade twice, I should not be forced to invest twice as much time to level up a car. Maybe this can be forwarded to the right people.

Thanks.

i guess this has nothing to do with game family sharing. FM features crossplay and also crossprogression. i have chatted with ms support befor buying the premium-add-ons dlc for xbox and i got the info that the dlc is account-bound, which means whatever platform you play (with the same gamertag), your progress, content,… will be the same. for me car-level, driver-level,…is the same on both platforms.

When I switched platforms from Steam to Xbox my progression carried over, even the current dlc car levels, but I wasn’t able to select these cars on Xbox.

If the dlc is “cross buy” (and account bound), which is what you’re suggesting, I would be a complete idiot for buying the Premium Edition upgrade on Xbox after purchasing the Premium Edition of the game on Steam.

So if I hadn’t bought the Premium Upgrade on Xbox I still would have been able to access the dlc cars but without the progression?

In that case cross progression for dlc cars is broken, as there’s no way to access leveled up dlc cars from the Steam version on Xbox.

It’ a bit confusing I have to admit.

i own the game through game pass ultimate. as i said i asked microsoft support befor buying the dlc if i can use it on both platforms and the answer was yes, its bound to your microsoft account.
btw i play the game directly on windows…

edit:
from forza support team:
“Cross-progression allows you to continue your racing journey across Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC and Steam. Player save data for Forza Motorsport is stored securely on our online servers which means you can switch between these platforms as often as you like without losing any progress.”

Is this the same for Forza Horizon 5 moving from Xbox to steam?

No.

Xbox saves are a different format from Steam, saves.

Even though you have a Xbox account tied to both, you will have to start over on Steam, because it’s technically a different platform, and not just because it’s PC.

However, since you bought FH5 on Xbox, you should have a MS Store (Windows PC) version you can download (free of charge) and this version will have all of your progress saved because progress is strictly tied to your Xbox account on MS Store, games. This is part of MS’s “Play Anywhere” feature.

So, check and see if you can download the MS Store version before you buy the Steam, version!
