Question about freeing up space for designs.

I have a lot of used up design space with just cars with painted wheels, window tint, or metallic colors and I’d like to not have those saved as designs. So my question is, can I put these cars on the auction house with an extremely high buyout for the shortest time possible (knowing that no sane individual would buy them) and delete that design while its in the auction house and then reclaim the car afterwards with the painted wheels or custom paint color from before still applied? Or will it return to a “stock” color? I don’t really want to test this because I spend a lot of time in the paint editor until I get the exact color I want, but if someone can confirm this then that’s great.
P.S. Is this something that could potentially get me banned since it would be an exploit if it works?

You could test yourself.

Buy a cheap car. Paint the wheels purple.

Put car up on auction and then grab it back.

Doesn’t need to be your best design for testing purposes.

I doubt this is bannable because you are not doing anything outside what the software is designed to do.

There “might” be an issue if this bloats the size of your saved game though.

The method is valid, but I would claim the car first, THEN delete the design. The design will still be locked to the car. If you’re unsure, you should just get a message saying “Are you sure you would like to delete this design?” or something like that, and not all of the former, and then something like “One or more of your cars has this design; deleting it will alter cars in garage, etc.” In regards to the buyouts, it helps if you have a decent Tuner or Painter rank (I’m a Pro Painter, for example). Because despite the common sense approach of “no one would pay that much for it”, I’ve had quite a few cars that someone ended up buying for way more than they were worth. Just recently sold a Lotus Elise for 135K for example. A car that you can buy from the Autoshow for 32K.

And it shouldn’t get you banned, no. Either that, or I should’ve been banned months ago

Edit - I’d be careful doing anything like Forzathon cars, highly expensive cars, or in general cars that are rather desirable. If you don’t want to risk losing it, don’t do it for that car.

I don’t know what status of painter I am but I have 1 design with almost 10k downloads and a few others with 100 downloads or more and a few vinyl groups with a fair amount of downloads so I don’t know how much of a buyout I can set, however I’m not even going to risk any of my unicorns or barnfinds so the only cars I’ll try this on are gonna be autoshow cars.

The only level of tuner/painter that has the ability to sell cars for more are the Legend status (5 stars). Takes a combined 50K downloads, likes and uses to earn that level and vinyl group downloads do not count … only designs.

This is a legit way of clearing your used up designs slots. I’ve been doing it for awhile just dont put up any unicorn cars or they will b bought right away. I accidently did that a couple months ago like a dummy not thinking… smh. Also legend players aren’t the only ones with higher prices. elite players have a higher auction price Just nowhere near as high as legendary but definately higher then the others. If i dont put a design of my own on a car it can be a 90k corvette, then if i add my design to it the vette wass almost 500k buyout im at elite status rn.
