The big problem for me is paid monthly DLC, Being asked to cough up money every single month for a full price game is just to much. Even my EA games dont do this. We should get quarterly updates rather than monthly and we should be able to buy the cars we want rather than being forced to buy the packs. (i know we can already but T10 hold the good cars back and only sell in a pack)
I dont have so much of an issue paying for the car DLC for this game as it is a new console and all the cars had to be modeled again for it.
However, I DO have an issue if cars that have already been modeled and included in this game and DLC become additional DLC in future games. That is uncool because now they’re just trying to make money off of items that have already been produced and require no additional work, so its just free money for T10.
IMO DLC should be for NEW things, new cars that havent been included in any of their titles on the current platform, new tracks that are new to the series, etc. New stuff, that required new and additional modeling and design and therefore cost the company more money to produce. If they just recycle already produced items into DLC, then I do see that as a money grab and I find very annoying.
Paying for cars in DLC is not New and Im ok With that, but why make achievements where you have to keep buying DLC if its not an Add-On to the game? Looks like a smart way to increase bottom line… New maps and New missions etc makes New achievements for DLC in other type of games, but we are not getting rally or Add-On to the game itself, except more cars. Its not the end of the world for me, but I know a couple friends really dislike this. And its definitely something they did cause they know alot of gamers like achivements, and in that way make more Money. They dont make this to be Nice, they make this to earn Money, and they will find even more ways to make Money off you and me in the future… Not complaining, just not fully agree With Your assessment that T10 is the Nice guy in class…
I agree with the OP that, in my opinion, T10 isn’t corrupt. They’re trying to make money just like everybody else. I partially agree that they deserve credit for patching the game and fixing things we complained about. While I’m thankful, this patching is done to correct something that was wrong with the game or was missing… So should we lavish praise on someone for doing something they simply “ought” to have done? I thank them because it makes the experience less frustrating. But praise is a little much for ‘fixes’.
I am slightly confused with this whole issue of DLC tho. Here’s what I mean… The game was introduced and there were 200+/- cars, which was 300 or so down from Forza 4 (not counting DLC for either) and several fewer tracks than Forza 4. So, many people were up in arms. The thought was, How could Turn 10 release a new version of the game with “less”? From several perspectives its a valid argument. Where do we ever see a company releasing a new product with fewer features than the previous model? I’ve never seen that. It’s just not done. Also there’s competition to consider. How does the product compare to the competition? Can you release a product, whether it be a phone, a car, or a game that has hundreds of fewer ‘features’ or standard items than their immediate competitor? In this case, the competitors are Gran Turismo and, oddly enough, Forza 4. And yet that’s exactly what Turn 10 did. The complaints were valid because this isn’t acceptable business practice when viewing what is done across the span of consumer goods. It was odd. We’ve been forced to accept it and ‘look at the bright side’ (better graphics, etc.). In the end, what you’re forced to do (please don’t get hung up on the word “forced”) IF you want as many cars as the competition… is buy all the DLC which will cost you as much as the game itself. So you’ll pay $130 for a game to get similar “features” as the competition and still end up with fewer cars and tracks in the end. Bottom line, if the game were introduced with the same number of cars and tracks as Forza 4, there wouldn’t have been any complaints on those two issues. And no one would have an issue with DLC. But having to pay in order to have, after buying all the DLC, 200 or so fewer cars than Forza 4 came with standard is disheartening. Complaints on bugs and missing game features would still exist (like still being unable to sort paints by car…). But not on cars and tracks.
The interesting thing is that due to the uproar, Turn 10 decided to give the tracks away for free. Kudos and big props for that. A stand up gesture ad much appreciated. The confusing thing to me is, why do that with the tracks but not with the cars? Yea, I understand that they have to recoup continued development costs… I’m just thinking about the principal that compelled them to give away the tracks. Was it an understanding that the game was lacking from the door and a desire to ‘make it right’? And if so, why didn’t that apply to the cars? Again, just thinking of the consistency of the principal.
Say what you will about the DLC for any of the Forza games, but you aren’t locked out of major parts of the game due to “paywalls” like with other titles. The only extras you pay for are which car you will drive, which can easily be balanced out with tuning. There is no pay to win here. Battlefield 3 in comparison (I opted not to buy 4), left over half of the maps as DLC, meaning if you didn’t buy the pass, packs, or gold edition, you were locked out of all the games running those maps, and were even kicked if the server flipped to one in rotational play. On top of this most of the weapons were DLC and they actually made a difference in the field. I doubt you all would like it very much if they put out an unbeatable Ferrari DLC that was only accessible if you paid for it with real money.
*Edit: In response to the commentary about “less” cars, Forza 5 shipped with less cars then 4 because they actually rebuild all the cars continuously for each game, and ESPECIALLY for a platform jump. You could have the competition’s system whereby the same dated car models can appear nearly 10 years later and look absolutely awful.
There were fewer tracks in Forza 4 too. And now we have new, laser scanned, amazing tracks are free. Goes back to the question in my msg…
And the fact that everything had to be rebuilt, we all know and have talked about that many times. But then that leads to more questions like ‘Was the game released prematurely’ etc, etc…
Long story short, opinions will vary on this as they will on everything else. No one is “right”. Simply different perspectives. And my post was less of a current complaint and more of a presenting the reason behind some of the complaints about DLC for this game. With all I wrote, I’ve purchased DLCs for this game and will buy more. The game is here, we have what we have. Enjoy it.
Isn’t that what EA does with Ultimate Team? IF you want to play and be even remotely successful you need to spend large amounts of real world money on a quite regular basis?
Compared to this Forza and its DLC model is relatively cheap. And in the end, no one is forcing anyone to buy tokens or DLC packs. Sure, if you don’t buy the DLC pack you can’t participate in the new Rivals events that are specific to those DLC cars but you can still participate in all the other rivals events. If you are dead set on participating in every single rival event, buy the DLC but if you’re not willing to buy all the new cars don’t be upset you don’t get the one limited event for that new car.
When people speak with their wallets and stop buying DLC the models will change but for now the model seems to be working very well for all the businesses employing it and so it will remain. Even if the couple hundred active members on this forum all refused to buy the DLC, there are still hundreds of thousands of other players out there who will…
No not at all, You dont need to pay a penny to be competitive in Ultimate Team you can put a great team together fairly quickly (People that spend fortunes want an amazing team instantly rather than playing and earning) Also if you dont spend any money your not locked out of any Leagues or Tourneys.
Dont agree with that, 8x£7.99 = £63.99 & the £50 Forza 5 cost it turns out a very expensive game if you want the full expereince. Now if you can afford the season pack all in the one then it’s priced identical to the more expensive DLC games. The problem again is DLC is nearly the same price as the full game or infact more if you buy the packs individually…The retail game which comes with 200 cars and 15 tracks makes the 80 cars for £40 or £64 seem very poor value for money.
I don’t have a problem with Dlc as long as it expands the game. Unfortunately I don’t think car packs do this. They just drip feed content.
Car packs should be expansion packs; filing the voids in the various racing disciplines that have, in my opinion been skimmed over or missed out completely. They should be advertised in advance, they should be hyped up and they should be teasing us, the consumer. Not just some shoddy you tube video on content release day. With a guess the Car clue thread on here.
Obviously things like “touring car pack” “Jdm pack” and “dtm” expansions would be dividing the consumer base. But at least they could buy into things they are interested in. Fans and die hards of course will buy these and enjoy them but the online tools may give them a miss.
Of course you could always cater for the hot hatch asbo brigade and the van / 4x4 online race ruiner smash bunch and release entertainment for those. Too… ramps on circuits full damage banger racing. For example.
I’m not trying to get wish listy, and I understand the developer wants to succeed. I just don’t agree with how they are doing it. What they’ve done so far in my opinion is just plain lazy.
I’ve just spent an hour on Fm4 and what a game that is. Online was fun, offline was enjoyable… Next gen so far =meh.
Not sure how much real “perspective” you are going to get on an official Forza forum that only allows pro Forza comments shared among Forza fanboys. You won’t be getting the perspective of people who have not purchased Forza 5, don’t like Forza 5 and/or have left these forums due to their wide ranging and variable restrictions and “friendly” responses from forum members to anything other than praise for all things Forza.
Bottom line is the last few games on Xbox 360 and all the games on Xbox One are going to be more expensive. If you are a fan of a particular game, you can count on spending at least twice the retail game price if you want the total experience. Sure, you don’t have to buy DLC, but if you don’t, you may find yourself with the other half dozen holdouts in a forgotten multiplayer lobby.
The price of console gaming is going up. Pay or don’t play. Simple.
Forza Motorsport is a progressive franchise that builds on the previous. DLC is a question of - do you want new content to play with now or wait for the next game (FM6)? So it is basically a whatever and so what if they add DLC. It does not change the core of the game.
The next FM will have more features, improved physics, lighting, and graphics. And all of the content from FM5 currently available.
I agree with most of you, especially the Token part.
It is optional and not necessary to get what you want in the game.
However, DLC prices were too high in my opinion (even more so when the Car Pass only included six monthly DLCs).
You just have to keep in mind that the additional content costs almost as much as the game itself at launch.
I have no problem with any of the DLC for Forza 5 or any of the previous Forza games. So far I have bought all the DLC for Forza 5 except for last month car pack and the VIP cars. I will buy the July pack soon and will buy the VIP cars eventually (would buy them earlier if they where on sale). And even though almost 80% of the DLC cars have been recycled from previous games I have no problem with that either most of the car packs so far have been pretty good.
I agree, in general if a game is bad I won’t buy DLC for it. If I really enjoy a game and the DLC interests me I will purchase.
In Forza 5, most if not all, the top cars can be earned by playing through the game. One example of a top car is the Lotus E21 Formula One car. It costs 2,000,000.
That may seem a lot of credits but you can clock it up quite easily using Free Play mode.
I bought the game last Saturday, I purchased the Lotus E21 tuesday night. I had also purchased other cars prior to the E21.
The only DLC I have purchased so far is the hot wheels car pack due to it having some open wheel racers in it.
I may not purchase any more DLC but its nice to have the options available.
