Poor performance i7 5820k @4,2ghz & 1080 TI

I get very low fps in Forza Horizon 4 on PC.
The benchmark tool averages about 45-50fps each run. Nothing in the background hogs cpu or gpu performance. I’ve linked the image to a screenshot of the final benchmark results below.
Definitaly seems like a cpu issue but I dont have any issues in other games.

Specs:
CPU - i7 5820k @ 4,2GHz
GPU - nVidia GTX 1080 TI
RAM - DDR4 16gb @ 3000MHz
I’m on the latest version of windows with the latest gpu drivers offered by nvidia installed. My windows power settings are set to performance and my nvidia control panel settings are default.
Any answers are appreciated

I would recomend you to use DDU and roll back to 399.24 drivers. I have stable 120fps at 1440p, so on 1080p you shouldn’t have any issue. Also check if you have any background app using cpu.

I did this and it raised 10fps. A thing to note is that I usually game on 1440p 144hz and I get the same fps on there as I do on 1080p.
Thanks for the tip!

Yeah man thats pretty weird. Im running everything maxed at 1080p with an i5 6600k at 4.5ghz and a 1060 running with a +100 on the core and +600 on the memory and im sitting at solid 60 with msaa at x4. This game is pretty random it seems with performance.

Hey, i have the same issues Imgur: The magic of the Internet

have anyone an idea whats going on ?

Lets see if we can solve this together. What programs do you constantly have running in the background?
(such as NZXT CAM, Razer Synapse or similar)

i have an clean installed windows (build 17134.376 version1803) my other PC with the gtx 1080 have no issues but my 1080ti have these massive erros

Sounds like a windows 10 or a hardware driver issue, not specifically has to do with GPU.

Here is my config for 1440p @120 stable:

Try to replicate them in your game options, and check the result.

If it was a cpu issue, maybe you should check your BIOS config, like off cores or Hyperthreading off, or maybe wrong ram timings, thermal throttle settings, or even CPU C-States making CPU work at lower frencuency when it should run at high Frecuency.

Maybe you should check windows energy plan too in windows screensaver options.

You say don’t have any issue in other games, but what about CPU temps? Are they normal?

thanks for your reply.

i testet many settings and even at the lowest preset that is available i get 60-90 fps…

i also testet other driver from 399.24 all up to 416.34 but i have the most fps with 399.24

in other games i run all at maximum and get 120-140fps for example in ww3 (witch is an early access title)

my temps are normal because i have an costum water cool loop.

and in every benchmark i get the same good scores

here is the low preset:

for me its strange that the gtx 1080 ti works at 100% power but the power consumtion is only at round about 120watts

here an other example from ww3 at max settings with 140 fps :

there you can the the much higher power consumtion …

Can i ask you about your motherboard model? This is really weird… if you check my sttuter counter, it says “0”, when yours is “57”. Is like if your CPU was bottlenecking here…
Are you running any CPU overclock or XMP RAM profile? Is your PSU enough?

Another thing rounding my head: Are your GPU’s working as PCIex 16x 3.0 gen3 or PCIex 8x gen 3.0 or 2.0? This could be bottelnecking the GPU bandwidth too.

I know I’m not necessarily the person you directed this post to, however, I overclock my cpu and have an XMP profile. My psu is certainly enough at 860w. Tomorrow I’m gonna check whether my gpu also draws very little power although runs at “100%” in FH4 (I have a feeling the chance is high)

Don’t worry, because indirectly the question is addressed to you, I think you both have the same problem, and that intrigues me, since it’s practically 50% less performance than you should get with that hardware.

I ran the test again and I also used your settings this time. As u can see my situation is the same as Tobis. My power consumtion varies by 40-45% of TDP during the entire benchmark according to gpu-z as you can see below.

my pc is overcloked. my 8700k runs at 5 ghz with a pretestet cpu from caseking. my ram has an xmp profile up to 3866 mhz and my motherboard is an asus maximus hero X. when i go home i will try to update my bios because iam 1 version behind.

the performance in all other games is perfect only in forza its sooo bad

but thanks for your help

i now updated my bios to the lastest version put i found an very interesting thing…

in my bios the card “is running at x1” and because i saw that i look at cpu z and look what i found…

the graphics card is in an x16 slot since i setup this pc and it allways work fine but that is very strange i think

has anyone an idea ? i dont want to dissasambly my pc because that is a costum water loop…

Mine is the same… I just checked both of my GPU-Z and CPU-Z and they both say that i run my gpu at x1 but the card is in a x16 slot.

Ugh it takes so long for me to send replies because the moderators need to check everything I write before I post according to the site.

x99-m ws:

  • 5820K IS A 40 PCIEX LANES CPU. Whatever Slot, pci16x_1 or _2 is correct since you can SLI 16x/16x, i think is a BIOS config issue.

  • Look in BIOS for PCI EX Buss speed and be sure is on GEN 3.

  • You both are having the same issue, PCI EX slot not running 16x gen 3.0, and you both are using an ASUS motherboard xD.

I just noticed I do have a bios update availible. The question still remains whether that changes anything considering all other games work fine. I guess we’ll see whenever I actually install it.
