Poll: is "the ring" actually all that?

I know this will set some people off. But for me the ring in a game isn’t a big deal. I know some are saying that it’s the diamond that will make FM shine , but it isn’t. Most if not all Sims and race games have it, if your racing AI this just becomes one long rally course with moving chicanes, even online it’s hard to overtake.

Yes in real life i appreciate the skill blah blah blah…

But, there’s many a track in the world I would rather have, I can think of 5 UK tracks right now I’d rather have, biased as im a brit but eh.

I don’t personally see the big deal…

Do you?

  • Yes I love the ring
  • No I’m not a fan either
  • I couldn’t care less either way

I find it funny that some of those that praise the Ring, can’t drive for (blank) on it. I’m betting it will be featured often on Devon’s Idiots of the week series.

It’s simple, the Ring is an “easy choice” because it’s famous, it regroup a lot of peoples

If people 1 want this track, people 2 want this one, people 3 prefer this etc etc etc etc. We will never finished, look at what we got for the launch, and what we got for each monthly update, so the ring is an easy pick for don’t complicate things too muuch.

I would like this game to have diversity, have roads tracks, some kind of rally, Nurbugring is closer to what i would like to have, but it seems like asking for something like Fujimi Kaido to be back on the game is impossible, even if it’s a high voted one

While I’m happy to see it return I really wasn’t bothered seeing it missing tbh. Especially since it doesn’t seem like they aren’t implementing it differently like they did in FM4. If they announced the track day feature or point to point racing coming back I’d definitely be more excited for its return. Overall it’s a good additional track but not revolutionary, hopefully they add some features for it in the future.

An average game with a minimum number of tracks remains average even after adding individual tracks. The current player numbers on Steam suggest that most people prefer to play other things. For FM 23, ‘average’ is a goal that has yet to be achieved.

I like the track and it’s definitely nice to be getting it, but I think it’s return is a bit overhyped. A single track won’t “fix” or “save” a game.

It and the car progression changes in a relatively short amount of time will be good for the game though.

I have a feeling many will be saying FM23 is “getting there” for a long time to come. The lack of other tracks we’ve already had like Sebring, new tracks (to FM) like Magny Cours, historic layouts etc.

Granted, many other racing games/sims don’t have ALL the tracks either, but sims like Assetto Corsa are mod-able and feature many tracks (made by the community) that no longer exist at all, or have changed so much over the years. I was able to recreate the 1970 Trans Am series barring 1 track, no other game/sim can do that.

You are 100% right. The Ring does nothing for me I find it boring. That’s only my personal opinion. Hockenheim is loads better for me. The Ring won’t be a magic thing that brings everyone back.
I’d love to see Donnington Park in this game.

Happy the ring is coming back but I don’t like this track…
Always skipped when popped in FM7 multiplayer lobbies.

I love it but as you said most can’t drive it. With race lines it kind of defeats the purpose of a track like that.

Well, it looks like I drive “the ring” perhaps 0-5 times per car game so it is not important for me. I dont want to spend too much time per track to memorise it so it is more fun and less time spend when doing that with shorter tracks.

Who doesn’t enjoy a 14 mile drive through the woods?

I’ve always viewed the Nordschleife as more of a place to go for single-player time trials, racing against the clock to beat personal records or someone else’s.

Sure there’s competitive wheel-to-wheel, door-to-door racing on it IRL, but unless you’ve got a group of friends of similar skill and racing mindset, online tends to be a bit of a :poop:show. (Which i guess also tends to be true for any track, but hey). It’s extremely long, narrow in relation to the speeds at which you’re traveling, and turns come up on you fast and furious, often with not very much runoff, so accidents tend not to be small. Also, field spread can get pretty huge depending on the skill of who you’re racing with, so I’ve had some pretty lonely races with not many people around to battle with.

Plus it just feels weird to race a bunch of other cars for like a lap or two (which is all most people have the will/ attention span for), and then move on to somewhere else. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad it’s coming to FM23, but I don’t see it as some sort of “saving grace” key feature that’s going to bring loads of people back to the game. A mediocre game without the Ring is still a mediocre game with the Ring…FM23 needs a lot more than the addition of one track to make people who’ve walked away take a second look at this game.

I absolutely love the Nordschleife… I’ve probably logged hundreds of laps of the Nordschleife across all of the Forza Motorsport installments, and then some in other racing games that featured it. I could say I know it like the back of my hand.

That being said, I don’t believe the addition of the Nordschleife itself will turn the game around to any extent. No single track (or a “piece of content” for that matter) will suddenly turn Forza Motorsport into a “good game”. I’d argue even the addition of Fujimi Kaido wouldn’t save FM23 by itself.

The only thing that would make FM23 a brilliant game worthy of a long lifespan is more (working) features. Content like cars and tracks are only seasonings, features & functionality are the meat and potatoes! That’s my 2 cents anyways

Doesn’t sound like you do.

No, I haven’t seen anyone say that. But it’s a solid reason to play this game for many people.

You couldn’t be more wrong on both accounts.

I hope no one is expecting the track to fix anything other than the track not being in the game. Its a challenging track, iconic and all that, but not something thats going to fundamentally change Forza Motorsport in any signifigant way. The bug fixes, changes to car leveling and eventual work on the Ai would be bigger changes for the better.

Doesnt make any difference to me wether its in the game or not.Happy for the ones that like it though,I wont drive it unless I have to in career.

It’s not going to suddenly make this game better, but honestly the omission is glaring. You cannot not have the Nordschleife. It’s like FIFA without a World Cup, Madden without a Super Bowl, Call of Duty without ugly skins.

To put it simply, putting a good lap on the GP circuit is fine, you know, but it’s not an adventure. Performing well on the Nordschleife means your car is good, you’re good, and above all else you’re an absolute mad lad.

Objectively, the Nordschleife is very long, very narrow, and very twisty. It’s very punishing, overtaking can be difficult to impossible, there’s no such thing as a quick race, and playing with the average Forza driver can certainly be a nightmare.

It is, after all, a 100-year-old test track that wasn’t designed with modern cars in mind. And it shows. I can definitely understand why someone would be unimpressed.

But that’s also why it’s legendary. It is so ill-conceived that you need a very good, very durable car, a very good, very talented pilot, and, quite frankly, to leave you will to live at check-in. It is a brutal track, and there are no other like it.

I totally agree and you have put it better tha most, from a irl perspective yes it’s a massively difficult track to master and better still do well on it. Having watched Jimmy broadbents races there, I do appreciate the skill, determination and sheer bravery driving it.

However in a video game I don’t think it translates as well. With blundering AI and certain online folk, for me it just doesn’t have the same impression or impressiveness.
