POLL: Do Forza players really like formula cars?

,

Looking at the Forza car voting section, it’s interesting to see how the votes are distributed:

  • Formula E car281 votes
  • Ferrari F1 models (2000-2008)170 votes
  • Dallara IndyCar 2012-current (DW12)119 votes
  • Ferrari F1 models (2022-current)97 votes

It’s surprising that the current F1 models don’t seem to be as popular, especially considering how much interest there is in Formula E. Could this be a sign of skepticism from Forza players about the licensing process for modern F1 cars? Or do they simply not enjoy them as much?

It’s also worth noting that Forza Motorsport 7 featured modern F1 cars like the 2017 Renault R.S.17. So, is the lack of votes for current F1 models a reflection of players’ preferences, or is it more about licensing concerns?

I only really care about Formula E cars. F1 already has it’s own whole game and many other sims have F1 like cars. Indy cars would be really cool in Forza too. I would also really like to see F4 cars.

I see your point! In Forza Motorsport 7, we had IndyCar, Formula E, and the F1 2017, so it would be great to see these again in Forza Motorsport 2023. I totally agree that Formula E is awesome and should definitely stay a focus, especially since it’s the most voted formula car. Who knows, maybe we’ll even get the latest version of the Formula E car!

I’d also love to see Formula 4 in the game. Sadly, the Tatuus F4 suggestion has only 33 votes so far, which is a bit disappointing, but hopefully, we can rally more support for it!

Here’s the link to the Formula 4 suggestion for anyone interested in voting:

And to wrap it up, here’s a video showing all the Formula cars from Forza Motorsport 7:

And current season cars are exclusive to it too. There’s no point in asking for modern day F1 cars when there’s near zero chance of the game getting them.

Previous season and previous generation cars are easier for somebody like Microsoft to license, and they’re still a sponsor of Alpine/Renault. I’m surprised we haven’t seen one yet, not even the RS 17 from Forza Motorsport 7.

The only F1 cars I have ever cared about are between 1970-1984. High airbox, turbo era, first ground effect era.

That’s a great point! It’s possible that licensing issues are a bigger factor here. Teams like McLaren or Alpine could be more feasible for Turn 10 to include. If we look at The Crew Motorfest, which released on September 14, 2023, they may have made a significant investment to bring the Red Bull Racing RB18 (from the 2022 F1 season) into the game, possibly timed from the end of the 2022 F1 season until the game’s release. This could be a strategy Microsoft and Turn 10 might consider for Forza.

That said, I’d love to see other formulas like the Tatuus F4 (Formula 4), Dallara IL-15 (Indy NXT), Tatuus USF-17 (USF2000), Tatuus F3 T318 (Formula 3), and Dallara SF19 (Super Formula) get a chance in Forza too.

I didnt vote because my opinion lies in 2 of the choices. I do like f1 cars, but i dont think theyre great in forza especially more modern ones. Forza does have its own feel, but this feel imo doesnt work well with f1 cars as i dont believe them to feel that way.

Let F1 stay in F1 games!

I desperately want more Grand Prix cars, I’d very much like a Formula 50s division, more cars for the existing F1 divisions. Don’t care much for more modern F1.

Would be nice to have some historical tracks/layouts to go with them, even if their effectively fantasy recreation tracks.

I would also take more stuff like the Formula Mazda. A Formula Ford or Renault, a F4 or F3. Stuff more on the “beginner” level of motorsports.

I don’t think it’s down to lack of popularity or any kind of skepticism. We all know licensing cars is a certified nightmare for all involved. Maybe it’s current relevance ? Don’t get me wrong, i’m not saying nobody cares about it. It’s mostly down to what’s more being talked about more.

F1 currently is, for me, a very negative environment to be in right now. A lot of bad decisions taken the organizers (don’t get me started on Spa being a rotation track) and the FIA, overall fandom doesn’t have a lot of respect for some of the drivers (as a Max fan, this gets even worse for me) and the racing is… Lackluster most of the time (this is a car problem mostly).

Sportscar racing meanwhile feels, as a fan, so much easier to breathe in in terms of the quality of the product. International talent that’s as good or even better than F1 drivers, equally cool machinery that gets more manufacturers on board by the year, top class tracks and, more importantly, amazing racing action!

I might be sounding like an anti-open wheel enthousiast right now but that’s very far from the truth. F1 was and is still the basis of my motorsport menu, and despite it’s questionable management, i still tune in to all of the races to support my drivers (especially Max). Racing the open wheeled cars in Forza has become a lot more fun in the current game with how it handles. Formula Mazda ESPECIALLY was peak when they started introducing oval tracks in the circuit rotation (going 4-wide at Indy for the lead was arguably my best overtake ever). Formula 70s was not as good but still very enjoyable, and i really hope we get another cycle of these cars in multiplayer. The 90s era cars i tried once : too fast to race with and more of a penaltyfest than a race (still awesome cars though).

Now, about the Formula 70s cars… When the community choice vote for multiplayer comes up, that series tends to sit at the bottom, wich also means to me it might just not be relevant for current players or other, better, series are available to vote for. Real shame to honest because… This is kind of the only place on Xbox at least where we can race these cars in an online environment. Same for Indycars as you can, officially, on race them on something like Iracing with the current batch of games and simulators. If we were to get those back, i’m sure this series would be an instant permanent lobby!

Do i think we will get more open wheelers in the future ? Maybe. There’s always the chance they do an Indycar month someday and with May being the month where their crown jewel event is held. They like to do similar things for other big events like le mans and the 24h of Daytona on Forza so that would also give them another excuse to push for this kind of update, though that probably would be after the teased Porsche Motorsport icons update in the January notes.

Personally, i think it would also be nice to have something like the old F3 cars to play with (2 gens earlier than the current one for this year’s FIA F3 season) or, even better, Japanese Super Formula cars!

As an F1 fan EA F1 pretty much scratches my gaming itch for modern F1 cars.
Im a massive fan of all open wheel racing , especially Indycar , historic F1 as well as the junior open wheel formula’s . I think Forza MS should concentrate on adding these & other series / era’s of open wheel cars rather than modern F1 cars.

1980 to 2000 Indycars/F1 is the hot stuff for me. Open wheelers in the 21st century very good but less interesting.

The batch we’ve got is a bit of downer. You can’t paint them properly with the exception of Senna’s Mclaren.

Senna’s Lotus was promised long in advance, I was looking forward to it, very disappointed that there was swathes of that car that couldn’t be painted. That kind of stuff dampens my enthusiasm.

Formula Mazda is good on this franchise, anything faster than that gets a bit silly for racing, especially online where it’s carnage.

Modern Formula 1 cars wouldn’t work right in this game because this game doesn’t support formula 1 specific features like DRS

Just a question for those saying modern f1 doesn’t fit forza have you guys tried the AMR Pro. Forzas physics have always been accommodating to how f1 cars perform. I also prefer Forza’s sense of speed and feedback to the licensed F1 game. At this point I would be perfectly content with a fictional open wheel car that resembles f1 but with the same performance as the AMR Pro just so I could paint replicas; the same way Gran Turismo does it. I can’t imagine that every single F1 car since 1990 is locked behind other companies exclusive rights.

The game doesn’t need the drs feature. In FM7 whenever the RS17 went over 80 mph the drs flap would open and that was purely cosmetic

The AMR pro isn’t accurate. On the leaderboards it has laps faster than real life F1 cars on certain tracks. It’s fun but it’s not accurate

Also add in that the performance index doesn’t go high enough to accommodate modern F1. They are all way above X999

Yea that’s kind of my point. If the game allows the AMR’s unrealistic performance, then it can certainly fit the performance of a modern f1 car. And by modern it wouldn’t even need to be the last 5 years but something newer than 1990.

Same as the AMR Pro but that’s T10’s flawed system
