To not killed Horizons 4-5 for me. It’s just a simple function to include; if we can make races, why can’t we link them together to form championships?
Why has this not been included this since Horizon 3?
In Horizons 4 and 5 I am just aimlessly driving around to different races to complete them, and it feels like a glorified checklist, nothing more. No connections. Nothing wider to win.
I gave up after playing most of Horizon 4 and can’t even get a third into Horizon 5. The system Horizon 3 had was incredible, with each events having their own championships, and allowing you to make your own starting from any event.
And you can quickly select one of many car categories or even trivia (Like under $20,000 or Subaru vs Mitsubishi), and then the weather conditions and time of the day for each race, and link them all, with the winner being determined by points built up over the championship based on finishing positions. It was very simple yet very rewarding, fun and expressive of myself.
Having instead to decide where you’re gonna go next after every race and make up the conditions on the go, and not have a connection between the races and an ultimate winner after a load of races, is just not fun and satisfying. Especially when Horizon is an open world game so you have to drive all the way to each event, not just quickly select a race you feel like doing and determine the cars and conditions on the go from the UI.
Please Playground let us create championships in Horizon 6, it will make the game much better over the last two and not detract in any way. Online matchmaking doesn’t even provide events for classes D and C and I like a change of pace, so the lack of custom championships utterly killed those classes for me (Though I’m aware that’s because they weren’t being played).
This simple mechanic adds so much depth and there is no logical reason for its absence, so I fear the worst: that Microsoft isn’t allowing custom championships because they see it as a distraction from their online weekly ones which are part of their live service business model. I hope this is not the case but it’s the only explanation I can think of.
Personally if Horizon 6 does not bring this feature back I will not be inclined to get it, which would be very disheartening as I love the games, they just need that feature.
