I’ve searched everywhere, and nobody seems to know what factors determine the amount your score increases or decreases after completing a Ranked Team Adventure, or the weight of these various factors.
I’m not satisfied with that answer. We are not in this instance asking for changes, we are asking for information about how something works. We want to use this information because our time is valuable to us, and the outcomes of these races we have invested our time in seem arbitrary and opaque. And since this game is still being sold and supported, it shouldn’t matter that an update is coming at some unspecified date in January. We would like some information about the game we bought from you and are still playing, and while you’re not obliged to respond, I think you could at least give us the courtesy of telling us that, for whatever reason, the team does not want people to know this information (if that is the case).
Here are the basic questions I have seen repeated, over and over again:
Does your individual performance have any bearing on the amount of points you receive from an adventure?
Does the number of rounds an adventure lasts affect the score you receive? It so it would follow that a close, 5 round Adventure would award the least points to the winners, and subtract the least from the losers, while a 3 round shut-out would net a bigger increase for the winners and bigger decrease for the losers. But this doesn’t seem to be the case, in my and others’ experience.
Are scores affected by the rank of other players in the Adventure, or some aggregation of both team’s rankings?
When a player on a team leaves the match, is the final score for their team affected in any way? (Not referring to the scoring for individual events, just whether this factor weights the points a player wins or loses once the Adventure is concluded).
Are players who leave team adventures punished with a loss in points or simply giving a warning that multiple infractions will result in a ban?
Sorry if any of this has been covered elsewhere. The forum search only returns an error for me, so I have been doing my best with Google. Thank you in advance for your attention.
Factors to keep in mind that affect points awarded/lost (the following is based on a lot of communication between teammates and opponents over the course of 300+ ranked games and 2 ranked seasons, across all three Team Adventure modes: Racing, Games, and Anything Goes):
If you leave/disconnect from a match early you will be penalized and more points will be deducted from your ranking than if you stay and complete a match. This is somewhat bugged as the penalty is not always enforced.
Team Skill Rank (the number shown under your team name on the first screen of a Ranked Team Adventure), which is an average of the skills of you and your team is factored against the Team Skill Rank of your opponents (you don’t actually get to see their number, but can guesstimate it from the opponents individual ranks). The difference in Team Skill Ranks between the two teams help determine the points awarded for a win and deducted for a loss. For example, if your Team Skill Rank is 2,000 and your opponents Team Skill Rank is 500, you will be awarded less points for a win, but if you get beat by that same team you will lose a lot more points because you were the “favored” team. If you are on a “Favored/Stacked” team you will win less for a victory, but lose more in defeat. If you are on an “Underdog/Weak” team you will win more for a victory, but lose less in defeat (I have even seen cases where a losing player still gets awarded points, when their team was significant underdogs playing against a highly ranked team).
Individual Skill Rank is also factored into the amount of points you win or lose, the higher you climb the less points you will earn and the more points you will lose. For example, a person with a Skill Rank Score of 8 / 3,000 will win less and lose more for the same victory or defeat as a player on the same team that has a Skill Rank Score of 20 / 100. However, the in-game formula for this is bugged so this is sometimes not the case, see note 6.
Number of players on each team at the START of a match (not at the end of a match). If the opposing team STARTS a match with less players you will win less points for a victory and lose significantly more points for a defeat. This is somewhat of a backwards concept for Ranked Racing as having less players is actually a huge advantage, whereas in Ranked Playground Games, this makes some sense where having less teammates is a huge disadvantage. The number of players that leave DURING a match doesn’t affect the points awarded or lost at the end of the match, the Team Skill Rank is locked in at the start of the match.
If you are still qualifying for a Rank Score (X / -), you actually still do have a skill rank score that is going up and down with each win and loss/disconnect. Even though the lowest score shown for a player is Rank 20 / 0 points, you can actually have a negative score if you lose or abandon games a lot more than you win. You don’t actually know how negative you are as the number stops at 0, but you can deduce that if you have more losses than wins you will be Rank 20 / 0 (and the more losses you have vs. wins, the further negative your score will be and the more wins you will need to get back to a positive rank score).
There is a bug/glitch in the scoring system, some players are earning and losing less points than other players for the same exact win or loss and it doesn’t have to do with their individual skill rank score. For example, consider players on the same team, where Player ‘A’ has a Skill Rank 4, 4100 points could win 4 points while Player ‘B’ with Skill Rank 10, 2700 points wins 0 points for a victory. Then in another game Player ‘B’ with Skill Rank 10, 2700 points could lose 15 points and Player ‘C’ on the same team with Rank 17, 750 points could lose 50 points for the same loss. In this case, it would appear that Player ‘B’ is the “affected” player that has a “dampened” points awarded and deducted situation. This seems to be specific to only certain game modes for only specific people. For example, just because Player 'B" is getting a “dampened” effect in Racing, does not mean they experience the same situation in Anything Goes or Playground Games. This could be associated with people that have experienced large point losses despite getting a victory, but the number of people I have encountered with this issue is too limited to determine a possible cause of this. [EDIT: This also seems to possibly be tied to players that were qualified in the very first ranked season, as I have not encountered players with this situation that qualified in subsequent ranked seasons.]
Individual in-game performance does not affect the amount of points awarded or lost following the completion of a match. It doesn’t matter if you individually get 1st or last every race or if in Playground Games score the most/least flags, hold the king the longest/shortest, survive the longest/shortest, or infect the most/least players. All that matters is if your TEAM wins or loses (and the factors listed above).
The number of rounds or “closeness/competitiveness” of the overall match does not affect the awarded/lost skill points. This will however, increase the amount of CR and Influence at the end of the match (you get more CR and influence the more rounds a match goes). My convoy has tried numerous times to let the match go to 3-2 when we knew we were the dominant team, but it does not seem to noticeably affect the rank points awarded.
Hopefully this makes things clear as mud for those wondering how points are awarded in ranked adventure…
I think either something has changed in Ranked Team Adventure scoring, or the person who wrote the above was mistaken.
I hadn’t played it for quite some time after losing 500 points in two adventures and gaining much less when I won, as it seemed impossible to make any progress. However, I have been playing it a bit recently, and the scoring has seemed fine, my score has been rapidly increasing, and the amount lost when losing has been comparable to the amount gained when winning, allowing my score to increase despite some losses. But one difference is I’m simply better at it than I was a couple of months ago - I know the map a bit better for freeroam rush, and cross country in particular I’ve got some better vehicles and have learned some of the courses. My win:loss ratio in terms of the team result is no better than it was two months ago, but my individual results in each race are consistently much better. I’d say there has been a clear pattern that when I get the best individual results, I get more points for winning and lose fewer points for losing. And it has also seemed to be the case that when the team wins in fewer races we get more points, but this is harder to be sure of as that happening is often connected with performing very well individually.
@Jadigafer7 Thank you for that very thorough post. I hate that it falls to a member of a community to put something like that together, especially because of the unknown factors that still exist, like the stuff you mention in Note 6. What you’ve said squares with my experience for the most part and I will continue to check my own results against it and take note of the team skill score.
Now, if only I could get into a ranked Anything Goes match in under 30 minutes ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Started today for the first time unranked adverntures and the behaviour of the online drivers is a little better than before. But still I have been pushed around several times. But to comment on the previous post… Learing some of the courses… Well yesterday I made a dirt track and to my surprise today this track appeared as one of the advernture tracks!!! Happy to see my work is appreciated that it made it into the online adverntures. The bad thing however, I finished 4th… hahaha
