Playing FH4 across two platforms at the same time

I originally owned FH4 via the MS Store, but I took advantage of the delisting sale to pick up a second copy of the game on Steam. Because FH4 doesn’t support cross-saves between platforms, I started the game back at the start, as I expected. However, since I’m still signing in with the same Xbox account, I was wondering if there would be any sort of carryover between the two that was tied to that account instead of the game save. Here are some of the surprising things I’ve found so far:

  • It looks like Backstage Passes are shared between the two saves, so once the final Backstage car addition happens I’ll be able to use any extras to start picking up old exclusive cars on my Steam install.
  • Strangely, while the weekly seasonal tasks are separate between the games, the monthly rivals and ranked tasks are shared between the two. I’d completed both of them last month on my main install, and my playlist on Steam started out with that percentage completed.
  • Tied to that, ranked playlist rewards seem to be shared between the two. So even though I got ranked on the MS Store install, I was able to claim the rewards on my new Steam account, which was useful since I didn’t need any of the duplicate items on my main game.
  • I just found maybe the weirdest one of all. My custom blueprints don’t count as “mine” in the Steam install, but I can still search for the ones I’ve already made. I used one of them to complete the Lancer Evo Forzathon task, and I actually got credit for my own blueprint being played 5 times, even though I was the one who did it. I even ranked up to Blueprinter level 2 in the process. I guess that’s an easy way to gain ranks there if I feel like wasting my time.

Anyone else ever give this a try and notice any other weird tie-ins?

If you’ve logged in with your Xbox ID on your Steam version, the leaderboards comparing you and others for highways and such are shared, as are achievements.

It’s a little annoying tbh, if they’re going to keep things separate, I’d rather be separate for leaderboards as well.

Yeah, the leaderboards are shared, but your Steam achievements are a separate thing from those on your Xbox profile. It’s been funny seeing the game pop up something like “30 roads discovered,” and then the friends leaderboard comes up and shows the full 500+.

Yes, the Steam achievements are distinct, but you can pop Xbox achievements on the Steam game. (I was imprecise.) It’s interesting. (There was a house that was added later on that I hadn’t purchased yet on my Xbox playthrough.)

Huh, that’s weird. I logged in with my Xbox account but didn’t do the separate link-with-Steam step that it nags me about every time it starts, so I wonder if you’d need that to make it happen.

Guess so. The semi-linked games are really a bit of a black box…

Finally popped the drive-all-roads achievement on Xbox, so the leaderboard re that on Steam will now be a bit less annoying, as it’ll just show me as having driven all roads.

Found another weird quirk yesterday. I had a completed auction, but the game wasn’t letting me collect the credits for it; it would sit there and spin for a while, then give me a server error. What was weird was that I had another auction where I was able to collect the credits without any issue. Later in the day I hopped onto my MS Store playthrough, and then I realized that I’d originally listed that auction there, and I was able to claim the credits. So both saves can see each other’s auction listings, but you can only claim them on the one they were listed on. So bizarre.
