Does FH4 DLC/VIP carry over from Windows/Xbox to Steam?

I can’t seem to find an answer to this anywhere. I’m aware that for the PC version of FH4, Windows/Xbox and Steam are not cross-save, so progress doesn’t carry over. However, if you own the Ultimate Edition on Windows/Xbox, then purchase the standard edition of FH4 on Steam, do you still have access to all of the expansions, VIP pass, car pass etc? Wondering if these are tied to gamertag?

Thanks in advance.

No, content from the Microsoft store is not supported in Steam. You would need to purchase all expansions and extra content separately on Steam.

As stated by Stang616 before - the content is not supported. The DLCs are not tied to your gametag, but to your microsoft xbox account.

Yes, you are correct. You need to buy the DLCs and VIP from Steam itself, not connect your Microsoft account to Steam.

Let me provide a correction here:
even if you buy it again, you won’t be getting it in game.
Because you already claimed it on microsoft account, your Steam account won’t be getting these same DLCs you purchased.
Because saves are unique and Microsoft / FH4 developer cannot separate the two licenses completely.

So they mix and match portions of it together.

I purchased Ultimate Edition in Microsoft store, and then purchased Ultimate Edition in Steam. I did not get any VIP cars or VIP benefits in my Steam game, I do not get 2x credits, I do not get wheelspins, I do not get VIP cars. I tried “reinstalling” VIP pass “DLC” but that didn’t do a thing. I have VIP in my microsoft account, I do not have VIP pass in my Steam account.

Apparently, Microsoft support works, like, 4 hours a day and only in the US so they’ll take a while to process my support ticket. I’ll try to update this post if anything changes and this is a bug and not a scheme to fool me to pay more for the product I already own, while not providing my purchase in full (in other words: a fraud).

-small update-
Forza Horizon team is aware of the VIP crown flair missing on Steam. No fix ETA, no workaround:

Players on Steam and Xbox Series X&S are missing the VIP crown flair.
For the record: my account has “simple” crown, not “ultimate edition” crown.

Despite me having TWO ultimate editions of the game…

– bigger update –
checked contents of the VIP package - it seems I have the three cars from VIP (I misread a wiki on what exact cars you get with VIP), I did purchase the VIP house for 0 credits, and I’m not sure about super wheelspins (it hasn’t been very long since I purchased ultimate edition).
I do have the crown, but it is a VIP crown, not Ultimate Edition crown

I received a reply from Forza Horizon support. It said “contact microsoft support or steam support”.
Steam support: contact Microsoft or Game support.
Microsoft: my country doesn’t have phone support, there’s no way to contact via web form or email. Virtual assistant doesn’t help, articles don’t help, refund form doesn’t help.

Most likely I do have most (if not all of) VIP package. Not sure about double credits, haven’t looked into it. The only things I found out:

  1. You don’t get bugatti super sport with VIP. You have to buy it.
  2. There is a crown icon for VIP, fancier icon for Ult edition. I have ult edition and vip crown…
  3. If there was an issue with a purchase… oh my god, you’d better not have issues with your purchase.

Support have nothing in their FAQ to say that you won’t get DLC, even if you already own the DLC on MS Store…the only thing close would be the gifts messages…but then that wouldn’t apply to the expansions regardless. Whilst it still uses the same gamertag, the 2 platforms shouldn’t, in theory, make a difference to each other…it would be pretty crappy if they did this and had no warnings anywhere about it

Forgive my ignorance, genuine question because I’m confused a bit.

I’ve only ever owned an XBox, not a PC. I’m vaguely aware of this thing called “Steam”, it’s a way of buying digital copies of games? Maybe other stuff too?

Just wondering… if you bought FH4 for Windows/XBox (i.e. the digital version you can play anywhere), why would you want to buy it on Steam too?

I’m probably just missing something? Apologies for the noobiness of this question if so.

Thanks

If you see “Steam” as an independent ‘console’, then it’s easier to understand. While Windows and Xbox are two connected ‘console’. No other stuff but only games on Steam I guess. Play-anywhere means the two Microsoft ‘console’, but not others such as PS or Steam, or Switch etc.

Thank you  This goes quite a long way to answering my question. I’m having difficulty conceptualising it (I guess because I’ve never experienced Steam)… the hardware (your Windows PC) is the same, the game (FH4) is the same, the bit in between (???) is different? I guess it’s what the bit in between does, apart from being a nice way to download and pay for games, that I don’t know about.

I’m sorry - particuarly to the original poster - for taking the thread off-topic. Thanks for your answer.

Steam is a storefront. Basically, alternative to microsoft / sony / nintendo game shop on PC. Because PC is not locked to one store. And Steam happens to be (by FAR) the biggest store for games on PC. And most feature-rich. I have most of my games on Steam and I mostly play on Steam, and I get fantastic deals for my games on Steam, like 75% off or more.

As for buying a game a second time - I wanted to move my purchase to Steam but it wasn’t possible. Then I saw Ultimate Edition on sale with a huge discount and couldn’t miss the opportunity to replay one of my all-time favorite games. And get Steam achievements in the process!

Because Steam is the best platform to play on? MS store can’t compete with it… nobody can.

Because it’s the best you don’t want to play anywhere else, easy.

I’ve updated my post.

TL;DR version:
it seems my VIP rewards are in place, at least most of the important parts. Some of them are broken (the UI parts), they’re listed in known issues.
I also found out there’s no way to contact anyone about missing content from purchases. And nobody explains anything. If you have an issue, do your own research.

And I’m DEFINITELY not buying FH5 on Microsoft store. Don’t want to buy it twice. Because I’m definitely getting FH5 Ult Edition (or whatever) preorder on Steam, if possible. Loving FH4, despite the flaws.

Typical Forza support.
