Performance - Slow vinyls loading time and sharing time (1925976)

The vinyl load times have dropped after the recent update… significantly. It now takes a mere matter of seconds to load up your vinyls. Yay what a relief :tada: a great improvement over how it’s been for the last 12 months for any painters on the game.

The bad news though… there’s always trade offs it seems.

Thumbnails still only load up for around 25% of your saved vinyls, initially getting a spinning circle implying they’re loading but not all do, instead left with a blank square and when you’ve got a full allocation of only 450 save slots that’s quite a lot of missing vinyl thumbnails.

When you go to apply a vinyl it now takes noticeably longer to load onto the car (to the point you worry your game will crash). If the thumbnail hasn’t shown you need to download it and this doesn’t always happen, and then select the option to load onto the car.

Saving a vinyl also takes equally as long as loading one up.

Unsharing and sharing a vinyl now takes around 5 minutes. Deleting a vinyl is no longer an instant action, instead taking a noticeable amount of time to complete.

Overall a good improvement, but it has brought with it other frustrations with the load times in other places and what seems like additional steps. FH and FM7 still have the better paint booths compared to the new FM.

@NothelleN340
Would it be possible to provide a video of this in action?

Yes. Stay tuned.

I recorded my screen, showing a timer and the UGC folder while it did its thing.

Have we any update on any of these issues, i expected some form of resolution during this weeks patch.

I dont understand how a barely changed livery editor can get worse over time

This has got so much worse since the last patch.

too much time to load skins and once loaded not possible to delete or load a skin

@JetPartySalad this issue persists, and may have actually worsened.

The whole section is a mess. I’m sure it’s not RNG based, but the success of every menu action feels like it is.

  • I often have to request the same vinyl four times before it loads on the car.
  • Sometimes you enter a command to apply a vinyl, get punted back to the listings with nothing happening, scroll a bit, and then the game applies the vinyl you just happened to be scrolling past.
  • The option to cancel out often doesn’t appear/activate on loading screens
  • Sometimes loading screens become perpetual, forcing a restart of the game. Thankfully, this only happened to me when I was looking to make a small change to an already saved livery. Others have lost entire designs.
  • You still only get 25-33% of the thumbnails, which are random every time. Why these don’t get saved to the hard drive when a modification date is directly available from the displayed metadata is a source of continued amazement. There’s absolutely no need to re-download or re-generate a thumbnail for a vinyl that has not changed since October 2023.
  • Deletions take a mysteriously long time
  • The FH5 import menu became substantially slower with the last update

Its quite funny because I remember at the beginning of the game the load times were next to instant. And for the last year hardly any changes or improvements have been really made, regardless if a patch note writes them or not. Everyone writing in here has wrote valid claims about the system.

I still have the same issue too. I now manage it by only holding a “fixed” number of logo packs (or layer sized logos) in game. And then load in other packs from fh5 or f7. Which seems to help with loading and blank tabs.
The issue i have is that my new made logos/packs are taking up space, limiting my ability to effectively manage this issue.
And tbh i am loathed to have to fire up fh5 make and save a logo in that game and import to fm…defeats the whole object of the livery editor within fm…
And still no fix or update for the livery editor, have t10 given up trying to put this and other editor related issues right?

Confirming this issue still persists. The video I previously posted can be replicated with minimal difference.

Hi guys i didnt want to open new Title about vinyls. Today i realised when i change my car’s manufacturer colour it needs a extra space to save it. They limited the space to 450. it is meaningless to limit it. Why cant i overwrite the manufacturer colour instead of previous one ? Even i want to change my rims colour it needs new space. Now i have 5 space left. Hope they expand the 450 limited space otherwise i wont be able to download new vinlys or change my car’s manufacturer colour.

Changing the car’s colour has always required an extra livery space, in both Motorsport and Horizon, going back to the beginning, so they’ll never change it.

Hopefully at some point they’ll increase the amount of vinyls and liveries to match FH5 but as they use different programs - why? - I wouldn’t bet on it.

its ok it can require space but 450 is not enough for this game.

With the news of T10 losing about half of its staff, I have a strong feeling that this crucial (to me and probably to all other community livery designers) issue will never get solved.

This is pathetic, but by now, expected. In some previous FM games, there have been similar vinyl group loading time issues, but that always got solved within months of getting reported.

That experience, in combination with the painters’ nightmare that is FM23, I take it that the game directors/management no longer appreciate the community painters like they once did.

I definitely don’t blame the developers/coders, because this issue could easily have been promoted to a higher priority.

Could it be so grim that the directors never wanted this issue solved with the hope that the community painters wouldn’t mind, and instead be patient and just let things load, regardless of how long it took? More time logged by the players would give the directors better playtime statistics to hand over to Microsoft.

I miss how T10 was once run. If T10 survives this layoff, they need to find new directors who implement features for the players that most players want, rather than changing the good ol’ FM recipe to something that nobody wants.

I’m sick and tired of the expression “built from the ground up” by now, mainly because nobody gained anything from it. Whatever franchise improvements that maybe worked as in intended were vastly overshadowed by everything that didn’t/doesn’t work the way the players wanted it to work.

If no more bug fixes are coming to the game which now seems to be on life support, I’ll spend this summer to play whatever is left of the career, and then just uninstall the game and never look back.

For all the thousands of hours I’ve spend painting in the Forza games over the years, I never expected the end to happen like this. Everybody in the Forza painter community never got a fair chance in FM23. Some painters still have and take the time to share unbelievable liveries, but I’m one of the many very disappointed painters that will no longer waste excessive time on vinyl groups to load.

In 2025, in a current game in a franchise like Forza, it shouldn’t take minutes to load a saved vinyl group (if the thumbnail ever loads) - especially when the same thing only takes mere seconds in EVERY other Forza game with saved vinyl groups that is still playable.

Thank you, directors and managers at Turn 10 Studios, for ruining a game, and potentially the entire franchise. If the rumour is true that FH6 will be using the same game engine as FM23, it won’t take long to kill the FH series too.

Thank you for not paying enough attention to what the players wanted, and instead going ahead in your own direction.
