PC system requirements?

I’ve seen this page for FM7 on the MS store and it has some spec stuff on it. The requirements are extremely low and not very detailed but I figured I’d post them for people to maybe get an idea of whether or not they can even run the game. I hope T10 will put out some much more detailed spec charts closer to launch, as these seem very low to me. Unless we are finally seeing a true DX12 engine working some magic I’m assuming the actual requirements will be closer to what FH3 on PC needed.

Im guessing Recommend spec is for 1080p/60.

I know FM6 Apex (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/forza-motorsport-6-apex/9nblggh3shm7) was a test and there is room for substantial performance improvements, but I agree that these recommended specs seem too low for a brand new game. They didn’t release this info for FH3 until August 30 of last year, and also included an “ideal” level above recommended (https://www.forzamotorsport.net/en-us/news/FH3_GoneGold). Hopefully no one pre-orders for PC based off these specs

I have an i5 3570k at 3.4GHz. 16 GB Ram Radeon R9 270x 4GB VGA and a SSD. I can run Horizon ok at high settings. Can run Apex with everything maxed out. I RECKON i’ll be okay.

The min. specs are more in line with the original Xbox One and should be lower than FH3 on the PC. FH3 requires the GPU to render additional world in real time loading new areas as you reach them in freeroam sometimes causing microstuttering and performance issues on XBox One. FM7 should load the entire track or most of the track assets into memory allowing for smoother performance. My machine runs Apex but it crashes on some tracks. I hope FM7 is better. If I get it digitally I have the option of using my wheel which is for 360 and can plug into the PC. That is if my computer runs it smoothly.

I have a 1050 Ti and Apex runs beautifully so it doesn’t seem wrong, FM7 is using the same engine etc. after all.

I’m using a 1070 and have a 5K setup Apex runs like a dream … FH3 has been variable - my best performance was with the initial release!!!

So I am hoping that APEX is the true indicator of a systems suitability to run FM7 rather than basing it on FH3 Performance… Just notice there are a load more things to tweak in the Graphics options on APEX … Might have to connect a controller and give them a go…

what GPU for 4k 60fps min PC
GTX 1080TI or SLI GTX 1080TI ?

A single GTX 1080ti would be fine. I doubt the game will even have SLI support. I don’t think Forza Horizon 3 or Forza Apex have SLI support.

Just out of curiosity, are there any “out of the box” laptops out there that could theoretically reach 4K/60 at near max settings with this game?

I’ve seen a lot of good reviews about this one but naturally that price point is beyond many people.

Doubt it. Laptops just aren’t there yet. Most desktop GPUs struggle running 4K. I’ll try running the game on a laptop but I really don’t care about 4K especially with a small laptop screen. Even outputting to a tv I would be fine with 1080p or even 720p if need be.

I think that laptop he posted could run the game at 4K. It has a slightly underclocked GTX 1080 and an i7-7700.

My PC has a desktop GTX 1080 and an i7-6700. I get about 80-100 fps playing Forza Horizon 3 at 4k with drops to the high 60s in the city. Forza APEX at 4k runs at 100-130 fps with a full field of cars.

With that said, I would never tell anyone they should spend $2700 on a laptop.

Exactly. That laptop if it runs 4K is an exception. I didn’t go into the specs but if it has a desktop card it has more of a shot but it would run super hot and I wouldn’t recommend it as an investment. I had an MSI laptop pretty much melt down on me and went for a smaller less power intensive and cooler option this time around. Even though dropping $500 for an Xbox One X is not something that I want to do at least not now, it is ironically one of the cheaper options for running full 4K when this game comes out.

I agree. Especially since that laptop doesn’t have a 4k display. It would require connecting it to a 4k monitor or TV if you want to play in 4k. At that point it kind of defeats the purpose of having the mobility of a laptop. They would be better off spending 1/2 as much as that laptop and getting a PC that is just as fast or spending a 1/5th as much and getting an Xbox One X.

I doubt that any decent desktop with specs over the xbox one will have issues running forza. I mean a fairly decent PC has way better specs than the console. So at 1080P you will have no issues, at 4k maybe but again if the xbox can handel it i think any video cards from the 900 nvidia series can handel it.

Wouldn’t mind having such low minimum specs.
For the soul purpose of running the game on ultra low settings, just do be able to use the livery editor on the laptop.
main gaming would still be on the xbox.

currently my laptop, HP envy x360
has a i5-7200u, which should be above mim req.
and HD 620 graphics, which supports dx12 but doesn’t match the mim req.

so therefor i wouldn’t be able to run it :frowning:

(couldn’t do it with FH3, so i don’t hold much hope for FM7

Thanks Manteo for the info!

looks like i’m pre-ordering the ultimate edition now that i’ll be able to paint cars on my laptop!
my specs beat the ultrabook requirements!
Sweet, i’ll be able to paint on the go, away from home!!

This got me pumped!
Now i only need a decent ‘Race-Car’ reveal and i’ll be 100% ready for early access…(btw, does PC get early access too? or is that only thru xbox?)

Hopefully this info will help a few people out. I’ve had an IT company for 25 years and as an avid game racer and PC hardware knowledge guy here’s a few thoughts…

For those wondering about the minimum specs maybe just to do the Livery editor or tuning on a laptop or something… I know with Apex if you didn’t meet the minimum specs the game would not even install from the Microsoft store. So I’m guessing it checks and if you don’t meet it you’re high and dry.

For those looking to run 1080p 60 frames I would guess a previous-gen video card 970 or better from Nvidia or AMD equivalent would probably be just fine paired wth an older i5 3.5 GHz or AMD equivalent CPU should cover you as well.

For those wanting 4K minimum 60 frames without dropping below that… I expect that you will need a 1070 or AMD equivalent. And a current gen i7 4.0 GHz or AMD equivalent CPU.

Remember since this is on the PC you’re not locked in like on a console and you can likely turn a few features down that you are not too worried about as far as graphic fidelity and get to your desired frame rate even with slightly lower performing hardware.

I could install Horizon 3 on my laptop, and when i launch the game, it says graphics card is not meeting the minimum requirement, but i can still proceed…
after that the game hangs…
(Didn’t try with Apex tho)

if i could somehow trick the game to overlook the specs on the graphics card i would be able to launch it anyway…

The early word from T10 was that the game will run on lower spec machines and better on them than Apex or Horizon 3 did. For me, PC is a backup and a second option. It will be nice to be able to output from the PC to the TV and use my 360 wheel. Apex though crashes to desktop on some tracks. It runs others fine. Hopefully it is better for FM7.
