[PC] Horizon4 - Changing radio station with controller BREAKS THE GAME

I have run into this issue with the Forza Horizon 4 demo.

When I press the button assigned to changing a radio station on my controller (DS3), this will break the game. I will not able to change radio stations again, nor access the pause menu, photo mode or Rewind. It does not matter if I try to access one of these features via the controller or keyboard, it will not work at all until the game is restarted. Only way to close it is to ALT+F4 out of it.

I have tried the following:

  • Played the entire demo without changing the radio station. I was able to access the pause menu at all times.
  • Played two or three races and then tried changing radio stations. Pause menu stopped working immediately.
  • Tried changing radio station in the very first race. Pause menu stopped working immediately.
  • Re-assigned the button to change the radio station to a different one and then tried all of the above with all the same results.
  • Changing the radio station using the keyboard, both with the controller connected and disconnected and this does not happen when using the keyboard.

I am using a PlayStation 3 controller, connected via Bluetooth and emulated as an Xbox 360 controller using SCP Toolkit.
OS is Windows 10 Home.
I have been using this setup for one and a half year on two Forza titles and numerous others without any issues. This is the first time I run into a game-breaking issue with my controller.

I Googled this a bit and found one post on Reddit where someone got the same problem and he had a DS4 controller, but could not pinpoint what caused it.

My workaround will be to unassign the button to change radio stations from the controller and simply use the keyboard for that. It would still be great if this could be looked into and possibly fixed so that when I start playing the full version on the 28th, I will be able to use my controller to change the radio station.

Still happening in full version! Unable to unbind Next Station button.

Same issue here. Tried everything to get it working again. Seems I won’t be able to play the game until this is fixed…

I’m having the same issue, but on an Xbox 360 controller. My view change, acceleration, brake, clutch, e-brake, and shift up and down buttons still work, but no menu options or rewind. Every time I restart the game, iut resets the radio, too, so I can’t just shut it off and then listen to my own music.

I have same problem. ;/

Yeah, no matter what bindings I have, radio, pause, map and rewind do not work. At all. Not on a Xbox 360 controller and not on a keyboard. Fix it Microsoft.

same issue but with a wired xbox 360 controller. every time i use the radio button it breaks tha game. tried doing the same things as DanniV8 but nothing seems to work.

I’ll sign under this. Exactly the same problem

I just visited a friend who has a genuine Xbox 360 controller connected via USB and this also happens for him.

To sum it up: Changing radio station with the controller breaks the game.

Workaround: Change radio station with your keyboard until Turn 10 fixes this glitch.

Same thing happenes to me. For me it happens when im using custom button bindings. When using any of the default bindings its totally fine.

I am using custom bindings as well. None of the preset ones fit my preferences, so that might be it.

Also experiencing the same problem.

XB One wireless controller with USB cable. Using Windows 10.

Hopefully a fix comes soon. Definitely an irritating bug.

In the demo had the same issue. Before game early release (About a week) I mentioned this issue in the rating of the game (demo), There are alot of reviews and possible game glitches that may have existed back then so this issue might have not been on the top of the fix list. But having to Alt + F4 to shut down the game is a BIG issue. Nothing like joining friends/crew members having them teleport to locations and yourself having to either re-load the game or drive to the destination. I really hope this “game breaking” bug is fixed. (Game breaking might be a stretch but Alt + F4 should not be a fix) Other then that great game. Going to pump a lot of hours into it, that is for sure.

Same exact problem here. So incredibly frustrating. How did something this obvious get through QA?

It seems that other issues have been arising whilst using an emulator for the XBox app via a PS controller. Honestly your best bet for a clean connection is to use an XBox controller. The possibility of the issue residing with the emulator program is higher than the issue being the game itself.

As far as those of you using actual XBox controllers… Have you checked to see if the firmware is up to date?

I’m on PC w/xbox controller. Controller functionality goes in the toilet no matter what, every time i hit the radio station button. Updated controller firmware, no improvement. This is so freaking annoying, I don’t want to listen to classical music, call me old fashioned. Why is this so hard to fix?

Also, have you checked that your windows drivers are ALL up to date?

Same, game is unplayable.

Same problem here.,on PC with xBox one controller with the updated firmware
