(PC) Heavy stuttering after hours of smooth play

After playing the playing the game smoothly for periods in excess of 2 hours, the game will suddenly start behaving strangely with both visual and audio stuttering. During these strange periods, GPU and CPU usage have seemed to be completely normal, yet my whole PC slows for several seconds. The only other application I have running alongside is Discord, and when tabbing out of Horizon 4 during these slowdowns, Discord as well as other apps i’ve tested and mouse responsiveness becomes incredibly slow and stuttery.
VRAM usage is generally quite high, but if this were the issue, it would be strange that it only becomes an issue after several hours of play. Memory leak maybe? who knows.

Using GTX 970, i7-4790k, 16GB RAM, mostly high settings. Benchmark is solid 60fps at current settings.

I’m with the same issue, after hours of normal play, a huge stuttering comes, with GPU usage going above 30% and fps above 20. If I stop the car the stutttering stops, if I start to move it starts to stutter.

Once the windows crashed, sometimes the game crashes.

THen I did a CLEAN INSTALL of my updated GEFORCE DRIVER and by now nobody crashed by the fps drop still a reality.
