When I see the Open race series I thought oh good I can take any car and upgrade as much as I want and race against similar upgraded cars of the same class, well no, that’s not how it works you still have to be restricted by the Homologation rules so not truly Open then.

Not only that, but not all cars can be chosen for the so-called Open. Forza Specials are left out.
It’s true to name in Freeplay at least.
Choose Open division there and do what you wish.
But I an not talking about Freeplay I am referring to the so called ‘open’ category races in single player career and being bound by the homologation restrictions of the type of car you choose so you can’t race a maxed out VW Beetle against other maxed out cars for example, instead you have to race bound by the homologation of the micro mini class or whatever its called.
Yes in Career, I agree it behaves exactly as you described and is not labelled appropriately
Choosing ‘Open’ division in free play just resets it back to ‘Any’. On day one I was trying to race in the same division without homologation. I gave up and now just race against cars in the same class.

You can break division restrictions.
What you are observing is that the Open division is not remembered between races, or if you want to change race settings. It is very frustrating to reset back to Open every time I want to make a change, but it does work.
Try it, build a car that breaks Homologation rules, set Division to Open and you can race it. If you want to race against Drivatars and have different rules apply, make another bucket and you can set different rules for each bucket.
Takes a while to figure out and it is tedious to keep setting over and over, but it does work.

I’m trying to play Forza 7 and I just built my favorite car the Mazda RX-7, I made it S class. So I’m playing the career mode and chose “Domination Open” it says this is an open race, every vehicle is allowed so have a blast. I try to pick my RX-7 and it says is isn’t homolagated…So I can’t use it, it wants me to turn it into a C class car…Don’t tell me this is an OPEN race if it really isn’t. Is Forza 7 a racing game? It seems to have forgotten it’s a game. I’m THIS close to buying a PS4 and Gran Turismo Sport because it looks awesome and has painting in it which is the only thing Forza had an edge on it really…I’m starting to think I bought the wrong game.
I made an S class RX-7, I thought it would create an S class race for Domination Open…Why can’t I use the car I want the way I want it? Is this Forza? I dunno what this is about. I swear they NEVER play tested this cause no beta tester would let this fly lol, they would be like wait, if you say its open it should be open.
I’ll be a beta tester, for free, an intern, cause this game can be great but you guys gotta get it together.
