Oh man... I did it.. and now my wrists hurt

I have been hesitant to do this race because I knew it was going to be rough. I never drive anything higher than S class, and I have no experience with Forza 6 rain tracks other than the few I have encountered in career mode so far. I went into this race pretty innocent, and came through the finish line feeling pretty used up. A few years ago I was doing 24hr races in Gran Turismo and I was fine. But man these 3 hours left my wrists in a bit of pain. Well worth it though, the race was an absolute blast and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a good challenge.

Only thing I would change if I did it again - Different mods and possibly difficulty. I used the 60% boosts and wish I would have had some 100%'s. Anyway, enjoy!

Race: Sebring 300. (82 Laps, Sebring Full, Rain)
Car: #9 Peugeot 908
Drivatar Difficulty: Expert
Assists:
-Drive/Brake Line: Off
-ABS OFF
-TCS Only (Forgive me, it’s wet.)
-Steering: Normal
-Shifting: Manual w/ clutch.
-Damage: Simulation
-Rewind: OFF
-Limit Aggression : OFF (Regret this decision)

Mods: Grip Engineer / Superior Preparation / Driver Expertise

Completion Time: 2h 56:40
Best Lap: 1:59.330
Winnings: 918,000 Credits / 572,000 Driver XP / 416,000 Affinity XP (went from 0 to 25) I won a 2.2mil credit car on a spin, and the rest of the spins combined got me another 1.3mil or so

Here are the highlights. Almost all of these are the huge mistakes I made. I think my car was attracted to the other cars in the track. Many accidents resulting in many pit stops.

Lap 12 - Hit a rumble strip and lost control. Pit for Damage.

Lap 15 - R Class Drivatar cut me off on the straight, total out driveline and engine in turn 4. Limped back to pits for damage. (Nearly rage quit.)

Lap 29 - Pit for Tires / Fuel. Starting to lap P class cars. Leaving the pits with 2nd place approximately 3,000ft behind me.

Lap 35 - Pit for damage. Hit Drivatar.

Lap 37 - Pit for damage. Hit Drivatar. Leaving pits 1,800ft behind 2nd place. (Can’t decide if I want to quit, or slaughter the controller and grab another. Hands and wrists in pain, this is getting ridiculous.)

Lap 50 - At the end of 49 I was going to pit, but traffic was in the way and I didn’t NEED a pit yet, so I kept going. Coming out of turn 3 I hit the puddle and went into a semi controlled slide… I was then T-boned by an R class car. And then another, and another. With everything wrecked I limp the entire lap at about 60-80mph. I want from a 12,000ft lead to a 1,000ft lead.

Lap 66 - Tires are around 22-24% damaged, and Im not so sure I have enough fuel to make it another lap. This leg of the race was much smoother. I was able to get the hang of it finally after 50+ laps. I am now running consistent 2:02s and have a significant lead over 2nd (19,500ft), 3rd (22,000ft), and 4th (44,000ft). It is apparent that clean driving makes this race a land slide… The trick is staying clean in the mix of all 24 cars spaced around the track. Coming out of the pit into lap 67, 2nd place has only gained about 2,000ft on me. Feeling confident at this point, I’m going to pace down a bit and try to stay clean.

Lap 71 - GOOD NEWS! Finally tapped a time I’m confident with, 1:59.330. With only 11 laps to go I decide to pace down. For real this time… I don’t want to total out this close to the end. Currently have 26,000ft on 2nd place.

Lap 77 - I decide to pit just for good measure. Entering the pits with 27,000ft on 2nd and 3rd place and about 58k on 3rd, I stop for fresh tires to finish out the last 5 laps. Time to wrap this up. Somehow I’m leaving the pits with 29,000ft on 2nd… It appears they wanted to finish strong as well.

Lap 80 - UGH. Two C7s running two wide on the track, by the time I noticed them it was too late. I hit the brakes but I was in the big puddle and didn’t slow down in time. Bouncing my way to the pits I spin out on the straight away… Car is jacked. Time to pit just so I can do the last two laps.

Lap 82 - I decide to coast the entire lap. Cruising along with lap traffic, and ready to accept the winnings I’ve been fighting for.

As stressful and hard as that was at times, I will be back to do that race again on a higher difficulty.

Wow…you did a great job hanging in there thru the trials and tribulations of a challenging race. I laughed as I read wanting to quit or trash controller over drivatar rage…lol…im gonna do this race in a few minutes and pray I can deal with it as you did…like a boss…

Good job. Congrats.

I like this post. I’m glad you wrote it out so that we can see what it was like doing the endurance race. Thank you.

Props to you on,not using rewind on endurance races. I wouldn’t risk it!

I totally have rewind on as I’m doing this. I can’t imagine not having it.

For those of you that have done an endurance race, any tips? I’m doing the Atlanta 100 right now and am seriously struggling using the same settings as I have for the other career races. Hopefully it’s just because of the crazy, psycho drivatars and the fact that Road Atlanta is definitely a speed course so the cheating bots have the advantage.

Here’s the set-up:

Difficulty: Pro
Steering: Normal
ABS: OFF
TCS: OFF
STM: OFF
Damage: Simulation
Rewind: ON
Limit Aggression: ON

I started 14/14 and was with the pack for a lap working my way into 12th place. I got passed by on car and the pack simply took off while another AI and I stayed near the back. On lap 9 the drivatar near me wiped out into the tire wall at the end of the long back straight and I continued trying to catch up to the pack. Based on the distance behind indicator, the drivatar in last place drove into the Pits and then on the next lap proceeded to get magical powers. Not only did he catch me in less than half a lap, he passed me, took off like a rocket ship and when I finished the lap he was well over 1500 ft ahead of me.

My average lap times are around the 1.5 minute mark. Will I have any chance of catching up to them? Has this happened to you on your endurance races? With one exception, I have not seen the AI this bad as I’ve been playing career mode and showcases. It’s quite frustrating. I will finish the race even if i finish in last place but it’s just not as fun as I imagined.

I never use rewind in any races in Forza. It’s part of the challenge, the way I see it. Same thing with the “guide line”. Since nobody in real life uses rewinds or lines that help you know how to drive, I don’t use it in the game for best real life feel (that can achieved in a video game using a controller).

A suggestion for anyone running endurance races is to keep an eye on the gas gauge. I ran out of gas during my endurance race in an LMP1 car at Le Mans at night after only four (4!; out of 30) laps, and with less than a mile from reaching the pits, I had to restart.

I ran on expert difficulty, with sim damage turned on - and won, as the AIs seem to get slower as the race progresses. After tapping a GT3 car as I passed it, I broke one of my headlights. Let’s just say I was careful as I passed every other car not to ruin both my headlights and having to restart the race because of not seeing where I was going.

It doesn’t seem to work if any of the AI are in the pits. And gets a bit funny after 10-11 laps. If you can survive the start it’s probably worth turning it off.

EDIT: Realised someone has already said this, my bad.

When the Rewind does work it starts you off with the camera flipped around so you can not see where you are going… by the time it flips back around you’re already in a wall

Best to leave it off!

@PPiDrive having rewind on is sort of pointless, as the feature does not work when the AI are in the pits which later in the race becomes often
I tried difficulty on Pro and it was too hard for me so try highly skilled I guess

I have 4 more endurance races left, and I’m absolutely dreading doing the Sebring 300… not going to be fun at all

I may have to turn down the difficulty. I didn’t here because I regularly play on Pro and ave no troubles getting podium.

I don’t think I will be doing another endurance race before Tuesday though so hopefully some of these issues become moot points. I have 25 more laps, I’ll post details when I’m done as well.

EDIT: Dirty lap indicator isn’t appearing (I know, I know) but I had a best lap of 1.29.2 and now it jumped to a best lap of 1.30.001. Sadly, I’m running 4 seconds slower per lap (best lap) than the drivatars so at this point I’m 80 seconds behind going off of just the best lap numbers. I just started getting lapped by my own group :frowning:

I’m in same boat as you, normally played on pro but during endurance races they were 3-5 seconds quicker than me no matter what I did, I think it might also have to do with what car you pick, I was in the Bentley so not as nimble as others

Best of luck on your Road Atlanta race

Enjoyed reading this, glad you got through it in the end. I started this race this morning and 1 hour 19 mins and half way through the race I got sideswiped by a drivatar which completely totalled the r18 to the point it wouldn’t even limp back to the pits.

Up to that point it was going swimmingly. All assists off and average lap time of low 1.58s was great whilst it lasted. Will try again on Thursday as it’s my next window of that amount of time. Determined to get through it without turning damage to cosmetic. Was totally gutted but at least the r18 is a great car to drive so I won’t mind doing it again.

Serious respect to everyone who gets through this with no rewind and sim damage.

That sucks man. Next time I do this I will turn rewind off for sure - it wasn’t that helpful having it and one time I almost screwed up big time because I figured I had the option to rewind…

Hopefully your next stint goes better  Good luck!

Cheers man, at least it gives me another 82 chances to break the 1.56 barrier for my fastest lap!

Here’s my Road Atlanta 100 story:

Difficulty: Pro
Steering: Normal
ABS: OFF
TCS: OFF
STM: OFF
Damage: Simulation
Rewind: ON
Limit Aggression: ON

Mods: Grip Engineer +12% grip, +12% brakes
+100% EXP
+60% Credit Payout

In the end I received 276,644 credits (not including +60% bonus. Does include VIP, difficulty, and assists). I went from level 31 to level 35. My Ferrari Affinity went from very low (1 race done in a Ferrari) to almost maxed on level 16.

Total Time: 1 hour, 1 minute 59 seconds. Let’s just call it 62 minutes.

Lap 1: I start in 14th place and work my way up to 12

Lap 2: Get passed and end up in 13th

Lap 9: 14th place brakes late, slides out into Tire wall

Lap 10: 14th place passes me and vanishes like a ghost

Lap 11: I begin passing the slower group

Lap 12: I get lapped by the first place driver in my group

Lap 19: I pit for fuel and tires. Then I continue what is essentially hotlapping

Lap 22: Set my fastest lap of the race (dirty) at 1.26.9 — (my fastest clean lap was 1.30.01)

Nothing eventful happens for a while

Lap 29: Second place in my group catches up to me and we race together for a few laps. I manage to stay ahead and hold him off.

Lap 32: Second place finally passes me as I work my way around slower traffic

Lap 33: Get passed by a few more cars in my group.

Lap 36: End of the lap I have to pit for fuel so that I can finish the race. All other 13 cars in my group are now more than 10,000 feet ahead of me

Lap 38: First place in my group finishes the race.

Lap 39: Almost everyone in my group is now done.

Lap 40: 12th and 13th place finish the race as I take Turn 1. Last turn, right before the finish line a drivatar in my group who has already finishes the race bumps into my rear bumper and sends me spinning out into the tire wall literally feet before the finish line. I get tossed around a bit by other cars hitting me as a wreck ensues. I limp to the finish line 2 minutes 45 seconds after 13t place has finished the race.

And the best part is that I didn’t get credit for completing the event since I didn’t finish in the top 3 so I have to do this again. Next time will be in a different car (for the affinity), hopefully I will have more +100% bonus mods, and the drivatar difficulty will be a notch or two lower.

even worse, you have to finish 1st to complete the event

I guess this race was fun and it made me love sebring so much more.

Car: Audi R18 (1st time) |#9 Peugeot 908 (2nd time)
Drivatar Difficulty: Unbeatable
Assists:
-Drive/Brake Line: Brake line only
-ABS OFF
-TCS Only (it’s wet)
-Steering: Normal
-Shifting: Manual w/ clutch.
-Damage: Cosmetic (I just hate sim damage)
-Rewind: ON
-Limit Aggression : ON

I did the sebring one.
Total time 2:44.25
Best lap 1:54.824
Money 100k
XP 1040k (26 levels)
ended up getting 2.8 mill credits

THANK YOU all for all the props! I didn’t expect such a positive response. I will make it a point to do this in my future endurance races. I tried the formula race today on the Brick Yard… at lap 62 I totaled out to a point I couldn’t even limp it out of the grass. So - I chalked that race up as a loss and I will try it again at a later time. (I had a bad day at work so I was getting very frustrated very quickly, which also probably made my driving pretty weak.)

Mad respect to everyone who does this race period. I am a very -realism- oriented racer, so I no assists. I am slowly working toward 100% game completion @ Expert / Pro difficulty with sim damage. I’m only 37% through career and 41% through Showcase. I definitely have a long ways to go.

These Enduro races are cool but they DID make me miss the days of Gran Turismo. I would love to see some 6, 8, 12, and even 24 hour races. I did them all in GT5 (both 24s I did twice) and I loved it. I was miserable hours 6 through 24, but once I completed it man it was so cool to see that gold trophy. Who knows, maybe Turn Ten will bless is race psychos with some real serious enduros later on.

1:54 sir… you are a champ. I MIGHT be able to do that on an empty track, but definitely not with all that damn lap traffic.

I haven’t done an endurance race since FM3, and this post makes me want to get Forza 6 and play one.
