Finally, NOS comes to the Forza Franchise and I’m sure many of you are extremely thrilled.
It’s nice to have the option to use NOS in the game. I think it’s always good when the developers give you something you’ve been requesting and give you the option to use it. Personally, I have not found myself using it much. I can’t say I’m a huge fan.
First of all, I do want to give the guys at Turn 10 and Playground games kudos, they did a great job with the NOS feature and I think it came together rather well. It doesn’t feel like I am playing Forza and then suddenly jumped into Need for Speed. The application and styling is well executed. That said, I think that the NOS in the game is mostly a visual gimmick and not much else. When using cars and accelerating in a straight line, NOS does not seem to make the car go much faster and in fact I think that every car I’ve tried so far accelerates quicker without it. I do not know if this is caused by my settings (Normal Steering, All Assists Off) or not. I have also noticed that either the game does not show the AI cars using NOS the same way as it does the players car or they do not use it. I am hoping for the former. If AI cars are not using NOS, then I truly believe it is there only for looks. There have been several occasions where I have decided to give it a go (recently in the McLaren P1) and I suddenly get past by a Skyline or F360 not using NOS at all.
After playing through this game for quite some time now, I don’t think the NOS has any benefit to your racing. It looks pretty, it zooms the camera out a bit, but it does not increase acceleration. I am still glad that the developers have taken the time to implement a much requested item and I hope if it is to reappear in Forza in the future they can continue to make improvements.
I too didn’t notice any real speed advantage when using NOS. I only used it for the achievement and then for photo mode. I wish you had an unlimited supply in free roam if only for use in pictures. It would be nice for the actual flames to be a bit bigger / brighter if they decide to use it in future, as here it just looks like FH2 back fire game assets.
As for the AI, I did notice them using it. The R8 here for example, I’m in the GTR just ahead:
I tried it just now for an experiment and was shocked.
I’m racing flat out with a car about 100 meters ahead of me (probably also flat out) and I’m gaining on them. I left the accelerator trigger pulled all the way and used NOS. The car ahead of me did not use NOS and suddenly pulled away much quicker.
If they’re now suddenly pulling on me (and not using NOS - confirmed in photo mode) that means that either A) I am now going slower, or B) they are going even quicker than I am. If I’m gaining on them, use NOS, and they pull away that means the NOS actually slowed me down.
Isn’t NOS supposed to speed you up? On the flip side, my car didn’t explode so you know, I have that going for me…
I noticed the same effect - lots of screen and controller shake but the cars basically keeping step with each other. I get the impression that NOS in the game is most effective the longer it’s on and the faster you’re going, so I’d rather have events like a long highway race to make the most of it.
Visually, I was really hoping Forza wouldn’t be a franchise to show rocket flames coming out the tail pipe.
I have to say the screen shake effect that kicks in when you use NOS, actually makes me FEEL like I’m going slower. Like I’m bogged down. I’ve noticed even without NOS cars seem to unrealistically pull away from me, even when I’m in second and the car ahead has no chance of drafting anyone.
I’ve also seen cars fly past me using NOS before, it definitely wasn’t a quick bit of backfire, but that was probably them drafting me rather than the effects of NOS. The final showdown on the runway was where I really noticed AI cars using it outside photo mode.
I’m also glad it isn’t in the core games, if it looked a bit more like a light source it may have been a nice addition to use in photo mode, as it is it just looks like backfire, and it’s a sure fire way of capturing it in your photo, but as you can only use it in a race it’s very limiting.
I know there are a few that would like to see it added to drag racing for example, but it would need improving.
“NOS” My Feedback.
Its Called Nitrous! N.O.S. is a Product of Holley’s Nitrous Oxide Systems products. I Don’t call your Impreza a “Wrex Steda” WRX STI.
STOP CALLING IT NOS! What if I a Nitrous Express kit do I say " HIT THE NX!"
Seriously? This has been argued on the forums before and the majority don’t care. We call it NOS because it’s quicker to say and type then writing Nitrous Oxide or Nitrous. Get over it
I noticed the NOS helped a bit but I was using at least half a tank when I engaged it. Little spurts won’t do much. Feels like it needs tweaking.
Look how fast this Mustang accelerates with NOS. NOS Kicks in @3,100 and deactivates @ 5,600 RPM’s
Really? First of all, NOS is an accepted abbreviation for Dinitrogen Monoxide. Second it is not solely a product of Holley’s Nitrous Oxide Systems as there are other manufacturers that make it as well for automotive applications - such as Nitrous Express, Edelbrock, and ZEX. Outside of automotive applications it has other uses as well such as in chemistry or dentistry.
Considering this is a Fast and Furious themed expansion, I think it’s okay to call it NOS if it’s ok to do so in the movies. For the record a common abbreviation for the Impreza WRX is actually a Wrex so no we don’t mind if you call our Subarus a Wrex, a Sooby, or a Scoobie, because in-fact most of the community already does so; kind of like most of the community calls it NOS (or N20) because Nitrous Oxide or Dinitrogen Monxide is (apparently) too long.
I don’t understand why you’re so angry with us over something that is common practice. Considering you very well know what this thread is about and you chose not to contribute in a meaningful or constructive way I don’t understand why you had to post at all. Please don’t yell other users here, it’s impolite.
I guess you don’t use the brand names “Tupperware”, “Hoover”, “Heroin”, “Jacuzzi”, “Sellotape”, “Zipper”, “Band-Aid”, “Frisbee”, “Jeep” etc unless you mean those specific brands either then.
“NOS” may be a brand but it is commonly used to generically refer to any Nitrous used in cars to boost HP, it’s even used in the Fast and Furious films.
Slightly off topic but the addition of NOS has made it difficult for me to take the game seriously. I can’t find a controller layout that suits the way I drive. Why could they not have a layout that included gear Up/Down on B/X. When I first drove I was hitting B to change up and staying in 1st LOL. I will not be playing this game much since you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. I know they had to fit NOS in somewhere but I don’t want to get used to driving with the options provided. I may just stick to automatic.
Yes, I noticed the uselessness of this gimmick as well if you are racing others. Its like a car in front of you can be in the middle of swerving and when you hit the nitrous it stops swerving and speeds up; its a joke. But given the history of these games everything rubber-bands immensely. Honestly I think they do it (rubber-banding) because they don’t know how to deal with you otherwise blowing everyone out of the water. Its just a product of terrible development on their end when it comes to this issue. But don’t get me wrong this series is still among the best when it comes to racing (in my opinion anyway).
Nitrous does tie in with the F&F theme but I’d rather not see it added into any of the core Forza games. Imagine how much worse the already terrible S2 online road trip demolition derbies would be with nitrous thrown into the mix.
I don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but nitrous has a really big affect. I’ve ran 24.876 at the drag strip in the Huracan with NOS and without you’re looking at 26s. Also rocketed past a Huracan in the Supra using NOS to take the win. I quite like it and hope they implement it into FM6, it’d suit a proper Motorsport game better.
Totally agree with Snowowl. Only street runners or Strips use NOS.
Can’t think of any other organisations involved in racing using it ??
Certainly no circuit racers !
