New to FM7. Really good but could be a better sim

Im not going to comment on the scale between iRacing and Forza, because I never noticed much difference in that regard personally. Could just be the FOV I used to use in iRacing that made me not notice it. Or just not something that even entered my mind. But in terms of the tracks in Forza been super smooth? I kinda have to disagree. If you are basing your comment from the default force feedback in the game and/or using a control pad, I can understand where you are coming from (to a point). But if you try the EmuWheelFFB app on windows 10 version of Forza 7, it paints a whole different picture of how smooth the tracks are. There is actually a lot of information relayed within the game, that for one reason or another; is just not utilised by the default FFB system. Information that is collected by the game, and then sent out via the new data out system T10 added. It is another reason why Blue and myself keep talking about that app, because it shows that what was previously thought to be accurate information we held about the game; was in fact partially inaccurate in a fair few places.

Also, since iRacing has been brought into this discussion fairly heavily. It should be noted that iRacing is subscription based, and is given with some content in that price (cars and tracks). However… You do need to buy additional tracks and cars on top of said subscription fee. If you dont buy the additional content, you MAY NOT be able to participate within all races that are run for a particular iRacing series. It is something that I feel needs to be noted very specifically when discussing the pros and cons of certain games. For this reason, I could only recommend iRacing for anyone who is totally serious about their simulation racing. iRacing is not really for casual use, and is a constant money sink. The racing aspect of the game is second to none though, and has an excellent driver ranking system that encourages clean racing.

^This. iRacing is one of those games that you really need to commit to and not play anything else if you choose it. Much more expensive long-term than console games, but it’s community is so active that it never gets boring. Assetto is the same if you choose the PC version, and the console version is great for a side game that you play when you get bored of your main game.

I think the best scenario for you would be to play iRacing as your main game, and have Forza or Assetto console version as a side game to have fun with. If you don’t want a membership-based game, though, and just want to do a one-time payment, then my vote goes to Assetto console.

iRacing is fantastic, best SIM made imo alongside RBR. I have tried it although not a lot as I don’t have a PC. Good think my friend has a good, he brings it over, hooks it up to my TV and TX and it’s unbelievable, even better than AC. As for Forza, I don’t think the tracks are the problem when it comes to them being smooth, I think that is a suspension & damping problem and FFB problem.

Curious if you have ever tried Emuwheel for FM7? People like Blue and Dust have been working on it and it’s night and day compared to the standard FFB from T10. You really feel way more track detail. I just think it’s the atrocious FFB and suspension that’s the problem in FM7 not the tracks. As for scaling, I never noticed anything. I’ll have to check that out.

I’m not sure if this is relevant to anything, or anyone, but I don’t like Project Cars and I have absolutely no desire to join their forums and post that their game isn’t as fun as Forza.

Good that you don’t, because when I was in their camp every other day would have a thread claiming that X was superior to Project CARS!

Though, truth be told, Ian brought it on himself with his aggressive marketing actions.

Lot of people dislike PC2. TBH I don’t know why. Objectively, FM7 bas better graphics and more cars ans tracks (important) but PC2 is very good. The racing “feel” is great. Better than FM7… Pit strategies, full face info, qualifying. There’s a little to dislike I think

Everything else on it feels broken and half-finished unfortunately. The car sounds are weak and generic, the graphics not impressive at all. There’s a lot happening under the hood, I know, but it falls flat as a racing game. I’m talking about Xbox One only.

I didn’t like what I found to be a downgrade in FFB from PC1 to PC2. Made the game feel redundant…

In terms of scaling look at the start finish straight at sebring ng in forza it is tight getting 3 wide in iracing and real life 5 wide is doable. I’ve always contributed this to one of the reasons your less likely to get clean racing in forza. Corners which can easily be done 2 wide irl it’s a tight fit in forza to get 2 wide.

No I have not tried emuwheel. I only played forza 7 on a wheel in the demo, then bought the game whole I was traveling to play on a pad as I considered it a lost cause on a wheel and then returned it when I found there was no rivals. If I can get my hands on it again without paying for it I will try it out using emuwheel. I know its data that is put out by forza but I really dont like using 3rd party software to change a game. I dont mind reading out the data for telemetry purposes, same reason for iracing I dont use irffb even tho people say I can get much better force feedback than their already sufficient ffb.

@iarlyn I agree that iracing is more for the enthusiast and is quite pricey to get started the only reason I brought it up is the OP was talking about a hardcore sim and mentioned he dodnt mind paying if good.

Forza 7 for fun, its a great simcade with great graphics and great car selection…its not a serious hardcore sim, but it can be taken quite seriously and be very enjoyable to play. I play on PC and occasionally on my XBOX. All on a wheel though.

iRacing - One of the best IMHO. I’m not playing currently because my little free time is shared between Forza 7, and AC…WHen its the dead of winter I’ll probably re-up my subscription and get back into it, once you own the content, unless you want to purchase new content, you just pay the monthly/yearly sub fee. I have A-class licenses in both ROAD and OVAL.

Assetto Corsa - What I play when I want something a little more serious, tons of car/track add-ons, good modding community. Excellent physics model IMHO.

For PCars2 CrewChief is a perfect add-on. Not sure what other games it supports.

Assetto Corsa, RaceRoom, RF2, iRacing, Automobilista.

My idea of absolute hell, I’m put off the F1 series for the same reasons as Project cars. You couldn’t pay me to play iRacing and or any of those those other sims.

They can be convoluted or overwhelming though you can skip the sessions in F1 or just hotlap.

In PC2 all this can be skipped too. Then I guess you’ll start last (like you often do in Forza). Except in PC2 there’s no way to finish first on reasonable difficulty
