I see post claiming that the avatar cosmetics are pointless and childish, yet every lobby I enter is full of different clothing combinations and emotes showing that players have embraced it. To me it adds a bit of character to what would be a bland loading or results screen.
I see post claiming that a price increase in wheelspins has ruined Forzathon Live because it’s no longer worthwhile, yet I’ve finished every one I’ve started in plenty of time.
I see post claiming that online racers are a crash fest full of “noobs” that doesn’t reward hardcore racers. Almost every race I’ve played has been great fun. As you’re driving across a countryside rather than a proper race track, you’re bound to get a bit of bumping and grinding, and its all the better for it. Some people can’t seem to grasp that Horizon is a totally different racer to Motorsport and wish to import all it’s restrictions to an open world playground.
I think what we have now is great fun and look forward to all the extra content to come.
Most people hate the cosmetic items because they are on wheelspins. Some people hate them because other parts of the game are so clearly lacking (options in multiplayer or the copy pasted engine noises for example) and seeing the developer has spent time on cosmetic items while leaving these areas lacking is a bit of a slap in the face. Both of these player groups are going to use the cosmetic items when they get them still. Just because they use the system doesn’t mean they endorse it. As for the loading and results screens, they are bland because the devs were pushing this “white space”. The stuff from FH3 was great and not bland at all. People want to see cars, not emotes. Kind of what they bought the game for.
As for the online racing, I’m fine with noobs in my lobby. I’d prefer to be matched with other, cleaner racers but I understand for the sake of matchmaking time I’ll just get what I get. It’s the noobs combined with the team format. Being blatantly forced off the road by my own teammates, or watching the results screen after coming in first only to watch helplessly as my team loses because my teammates never learned what brakes are. It’s infuriating and breeds nothing but hatred for my own team. Not a good look for an always online game.
I am glad that you’re having fun with the multiplayer, I truly am. But many of us are not finding the fun. I’ll still try to host pvp events. People rarely show up, but when they do those are still fun. But for the most part I’m sticking to single player or playing with friends.
Are you suggesting people who make the sound effects and multiplayer would work on designing clothes lol? that’s not how it works mate, they have a whole bunch of different developers, some do art, sound, visuals, licencing, items such as the clothing stuff, map design, car design, environment design, marketing and QA to name a few.
Agreed 100%, I’m having too much fun and I’ve had a ton of great races online, the community is great overall…I don’t encounter nearly as many griefers as past games. Absolutely loving FH4 completely addicted to it now and I think the extra customization options are great too, I often laugh at the loading screens seeing other characters it’s hilarious seeing how people express themsleves
If you don’t see the obvious issue with hitting, then I’ll have to assume you’re part of the problem. Sure, rubbing is racing, but trying to kill your opponent isn’t. Besides a demolition derby, where in motorsports does that exist? If this was the intention of the the developers than why is the damage model still so barebones?
I did say a bit of bumping and grinding. Have you ever watched a touring car race? I consider myself a clean racer and I don’t play an online racer just to deliberately crash into people. I haven’t come across anyone playing this game who does.
Why do you need a time next to your name after you’ve finished a race on this? If want to show how great you are driving games you can play rivals.
Forza Horizon is the only online racing series I have played where a race is determined by 0.001 of a second. It has nothing to do with superiority, its just awesome to see.
I truly believe the absence of such a staple feature is a bad idea in the long run.
That’s another problem. You CAN’T play rivals unless it is in the specific car that the devs deem appropriate. For me I won’t go online unless/until I can CHOOSE what class I play in. I don’t like S1/S2 and that seems to be all online is and the lower classes I enjoy are never represented.
You can’t be serious right? That, literally, has been the purpose of rival/hotlapping since the introduction of the series…lol. Your best tune and driving skills to see where stack up against the world in a certain class.
As a tuner/builder of cars the test tracks of rivals are pivotal to my enjoyment of the game. I hate the online vote. I like online CHOICE like they gave us in H3. Both free open ended rivals and online choice are great for endgame. I played H2 and H3 almost every day for 4 years and never got bored as the online and rival play was all I needed to keep me occupied and interested. A week in and H4 has me bored because I those important endgame options are missing.
You’re missing the point here. Rivals is a WHOLE OTHER activity to do in the game which gives the game a longer lifespan. It was in the previous titles and now it’s gone. Why are we going backwards here? Why take away something that a lot of people enjoyed? That’s the point.
Not what I am saying at all. Driving and building and tuning all of the different cars is what I enjoy doing in the game. This can keep me busy and interested for years. Open ended rivals gives me the ability to do that. Then I like to race these cars, mostly D, C and B classes online against actual players. But this game has no rivals test tracks and has no human competition for the class cars I enjoy playing. When they have no choice in what you can play online or having rivals severely restricted in what you can drive then everything I absolutely loved about past Horizons is completely gone.

I couldn’t agree more. Rivals mode is awesome. They need to bring back class-based rivals.
You forgot to mention the fact that player choice is completely gone from the multiplayer, and how 4WD cars have a massive advantage in all tournaments because of the “freeroam rush” mode.
We said: “AWD is too strong in FH3”
PG said: “Alright, we’ll look into it”
Next come 2018, game is in rainy Britain with only one dry season.
We say: “…”
If you like to play arcade stuff and build unrealistic cars, that’s fine, but Forza Horizon used not to be like that. The first game for example was Forza’s answer to TDU and didn’t even have any tuning. Then in FH2 it didn’t rain very often. Starting with FH3, this game has become basically NFS on the Forza engine, the only difference is that you can apply the physics hacks yourself.
Why is the dominance of AWD annoying? Simple:
All cars lose their character
Car behavior is changed, usually for the worse, even though it’s faster
AWD conversion adds a generic drivetrain for all cars, with the same 6-speed transmission
Too easy to drive
No diversity online
Unrealistic, as 90% of those AWD cars can’t exist IRL
I enjoy wet weather driving, but usually I build Road Racing blueprints in dry weather only. AWD is still faster, but less.
