I have a Microsoft account with parental controls set for screen time limits only but my lad can’t get into Auction House. There’s no error message, it’s just greyed out. My lad is convinced I have caused the problem with my parental controls.
It’s because he is listed as a child in the ‘family’ that is set up with your accounts, only way to bypass this is making his account an ‘adult’ account.
Thanks for your reply. Oh dear, that means that if I set his account to adult I cant set any time limits. If I do that it then is such a faff to change it back again, I would have to delete his account and set up a new one.
Is there any way round it that you know of please?
You do not need to set his account to adult. You just need to change the Xbox Privacy Settings on his account. He needs to be allowed to communicate with Everyone to allow the auction house.
I am not 100% sure which exact settings need to be set to Everybody in the Privacy section but if you have no issues with you kid having access to the following, I believe these options set to “Everyone” will allow access to the Auction House:
See Other Peoples Xbox Live Profiles: Everyone
You can see and upload community creations: Everyone
You can communicate outside of Xbox Live with voice & text: Everyone
Others can communicate with voice, text, or invites: Everyone
If you aren’t comfortable setting the above to everybody, try the ones you are comfortable with because I am not 100% sure that all 4 of these affect the auction house but I am sure some combination of them are the reason for not being able to access the auction.
I also can’t remember if you have to Allow specific items in the Xbox One Safety section:
You can join multiplayer games: Allow
Share outside of Xbox Live: Allow
Hi and thanks for your detailed answer. I will have a look and double check but I am sure it is set to everyone. These settings are on the xbox itself is that correct?
