Multiplayer, automatic vs manual

There needs to be events specifically for automatic drivers and manual drivers, there is a clear advantage to those who can play manual , it’s proven by the times they set . Different leaderboards and races are needed or most auto users will just stay offline. Just think you go online to be competitive as an automatic driver and get beaten by 20 seconds because the other guy has mastered manual or manual with clutch. Not everyone is hardcore and don’t want to play manual and should have their own leaderboard and events.

Ok.

And if this happens, I want my own specific LB and lobby, as I drive manual w/clutch, using cockpit view, with no ABS, TCS or Stablility control, with no racing line, in predominantly black cars.

Im pretty sure cars running TCS, Racing line, bonnet view, and race liveries are faster than me. So they’ll need their own LB and lobby, too please.

And while we’re at it, those people that think LB cars are for girls will need their own LB, with a separate subsection for those that use LB cars, but not LB tunes.

Cheers

Then you just have to learn it. They arent gonna make seperate lobbies for these values.

Remember, not everyone competes to be in the top of the leaderboard. Do not expect any sort of change of the leaderboard for whatever reason.

If you want to request something, use the wishlist thread.

Time Trials are one thing, having 11 other racers to contend corners with is another. As Horizon is more Cannonball Run than it is Days of Thunder… Wait a tick. Even in DoT; “He didn’t hit ya, he rubbed ya. And rubbin’s racing!” Yes there are TT events and the manuals will have a slight edge but there’s no way to know how much of a difference there is unless both compete. So if you’re going to run the same event but twice… Might as well run the event once for both settings.
So ya, give players what they want simultaneously. In the end the reward for the skill of being able to know where and when to hold one’s powerbands with manual is game defining, not breaking. If being able to race with more dexterity and game knowledge gives a slight edge… Than gosh darn it, let it. We’re not double-clutching for a x2 acceleration bonus here, we’re holding the powerbands with dexterity and knowledge (and experience).

That’s gaming and it’s racing.

I completely agree with this if your going to run an event twice try it with different settings I used to run auto… but losing on the leader boards all the time was not fun so I switched it up tried some races in career mode manual with clutch it took some time to get used to but once you got it then you got it there is no better way to drive…but when it comes to real racing manual will always have an edge you can stay in a gear longer and get a better speed for instance your auto lancer can do 20 in first gear mine manual lancer can do 40 in first this is just an example and probably not accurate… im sorry but to separate lobbies would just be menacing because then people are going to want to play both lobbies to compete for the top so just try to race a manual offline and do it and do it until you master it knowledge about racing does give a slight advantage we can tune our cars for peak performance and chances are we probably drive as hard and fast as we can. and yes this is “game defining, not breaking.” might as well stay in the same lobby and fight your way to the top, because your always gonna have someone better then you at driving games or any games for that matter…

This my friend is a racing ill see on the streets or maybe on the track in Forza 5 for the mean time until then cheers

Do leaderboards really bother you that much anyways?

Manual is easy. You just press a button to shift. You can still do very well without manual if you can control cars well, especially in horizon. Auto is not why your losing by 20+ seconds, though its not helping either.

I can run with manual or auto and get some good times with either, but my son only uses auto and most of the time beats my time, it’s not the auto or manual differents its he’s just the better driver, 9 times out of 10 it’s not the car so much as the person in control of it.

If you’re getting blown up by 20 seconds in Forza Horizon, you just aren’t good enough.

I don’t consider myself a good driver by any means but I’m always in the hunt and I’ve won a good share of races using auto. The only race where someone blew me away was an obvious hack. We were running the same straight stretch of highway over and over (he had it set that way) and even though I had my car maxed out well over 200mph, his was just gone, completely out of sight and almost DNF’d everyone most times. So in short, manual helps but auto is not horrific especially in the more technical tracks. Long straights I would assume favor manual because the shifts give you a little jump with clutch which is not very fair. Someone proved this in a youtube comparison video.

I understand the OP point. He probably played a lot of Forza 5 and after looking at every leader board realized that every spot in the top 20,000 was ran by manual drivers with TC off Ect.

I will be the first to admit that I suck at competing with the best drivers in any driving game. I may be good compared to some people I know personally but online where you are competing with the hardcore racers who have dedicated so much time to being so good is not something I am able or willing to do.

I learned really quickly to be happy with my lap that ranked me at 20,001 with my automatic transmission and TC setting on.

I don’t want different lobbies or different leader boards.
However what would be nice is if the game had a filter so that when you can see how you did vs people with the same assist settings. I want to see everyone’s times but I would also like to see quickly what 20,001 would be if it was just against people with the same settings.

Either way I love it and am excited to just drive.

Now that is a clever idea.

Freakin’ genious dude.

I’m with you on this one, but i don’t agree with all the settings the same ( might be much more work for the devs and will not implement ).
Just filters : “Manual w/clutch | Manual | Automatic”. Just tracing one option might be easy and duable.

Anyway +1

Manual w/clutch gives a slight advantage. If you’re losing by more than 2-3 seconds/lap, you’re simply not in the same league as those guys. Transmission choice isn’t going to make any difference.

If you’re seriously losing by 20 seconds or more, you’re not even in the same sport.

I use automatic because of arthiritis in my fingers and hands I just find it easier so I set myself less lofty targets to achieve such as being in the top 1% in a class or even being in the top 1000 with a time no more than 10 seconds behind the top racers on the leader board. However anybody who claims automatic is this huge problem within the game is not putting in the time and effort required, I have found because I run auto I seriously need handling over speed because I have to corner perfectly on every corner to not only to keep up but to compete near the top. To do this you have to put in hundreds of laps till you know every corner and every line almost instinctively like racing in the real world you think these guys at the top of motorsport haven’t gone round every turn many many times over. On most tracks it’s the corners that win’s you the race or gives you the fast time you should aim to have the little line of words that pop up to read no worse than ‘‘good corner’’ or in a perfect world ‘‘perfect corner’’ brake going into the corner and accelerate coming out of it. you’ll be amazed the difference it can make to a race. Use tunes that are predominantly set up for the best handling but don’t leave you struggling too much on the straights, like anything in life it’s a question of balance and remembering there are tracks you will not be able to truly compete on because there are to many straights not enough corners. Mainly though don’t think just because you are driving automatic that you are any less able to compete and win because if that thought is in your head then you truly have already lost

Just have to add since competing and doing well on a leader board was part of this post can I just ask every decent racer if you are checking a leader board and find anyone cheating on it report it and block them so they can be put where they belong and that’s in the lobbies with all the other cheats and wreckers maybe if enough us do that something will be done about it.

Agreed, I already found a glitch like that where a guy was using a Nissan Skyline R34GTR in Rivals against production Mazda Miata Mx-5 Gen 1.

I think it’d be cool if choosing automatic gave you an ACTUAL automatic, as opposed to a manual that the computer shifts for you. The “shift” buttons would cycle P-R-N-D-3-2-1 (for a 4-speed).

It’d make musclecars and cruisers more realistic, no?

P.S. decided to post this here, and not the wishlist, since this is where the transmission talk is happening.
