Moving thread to a super thread - why?

Personally I think it kills discussion …
I went looking for a thread that I had created but actually found it difficult to find in the ‘superthread’
The superthread has so many different things (threads!) going on in it … I don’t understand why they need to be amalgamated at whim.

If the thread subject is rubbish it will die of natural causes by disappearing onto the next page

I will say, this one has confused me and struck me a few times. My most memorable example was I started a discussion about changing replays to use the drones instead of fixed cameras. Had discussion about advantages, potentials, etc.

It got merged into a three month old necroed thread just called: “drones” that was nothing more than a rant thread. Discussion was gone quite quick after that.

Merging a thread just cause it has some very tentative connection kills them. Peeps see opening and old thread, promptly close without ever seeing the new or completely different context of the one that got merged in.

Forum clutter.

Yes it gets confusing, and also some of the topics were not the same, and getting somewhere, and often interesting to read.

It is only forum clutter if on same page. Once it is off first couple of pages shouldnt be merged. Also if one is a well written article, it shouldnt be dumped into some basic no substance poor titled one. It just is a bit overzealous with merges. If they are same thing is one thing. But if discussing different things, even if they share common basis, should be different discussion.

especially when they move them to a thread which is dead and has nothing to do with the question!

Myself and the Moderators tend to move threads into one to save any duplicates or forum clutter that may occur. It also allows all the conversation and discussion to stay in one place rather than several.

I understand sometimes it can be hard to find conversation if its been moved into a big thread but this is why I advise having a scan through the forum posts before starting a new one.

One problem I have is that I recognise thread titles and choose to ignore threads I have opened and decided were of no interest…
If you keep adding in random threads that you have decided are relevant there is a good chance I will miss them… where that new post could have been of interest.
Personally I am not going to keep opening a thread on the offchance something of interest has been added

I have been part of many forums and none merge quite like this one.

Forum clutter? for a relatively new person it actually gives the appearance that the forum is not that busy/active as there are so few new threads… and could lead people to look elsewhere for a more active forum

I respectfully suggest that you let things run their course a little more & ease up on the merges …

I created 2 threads recently - one was a simple way to get lucky escape skill with a retro rally car (without spending money on it/& fine tuning) … a skill that some find hard to achieve
the other was a discussion about the crazy long jump in winter at the windmill

These got merged into the same thread - this makes no sense

Very good call on the ignored posts. I remember what ones I have interest in and what ones I dont. There are many threads, particularily poor titled ones that I just skim past without ever opening again simply because there was no substance in the original post.

How many good thread have I missed cause they got merged like that? Is exactly what happened in my earlier drones example. I passed the thread mine got tossed into multiple times because was one that was just a rant and complain. I only found it by doing a forum search for my postings.

Each week I ask the same question about “New Rivals Events” when will we see new events or changes to the class requirements of the existing ones. They get moved to the same old thread were there has been “ZERO” replies. They have been in there for over 90 days. I even submitted our world famous ticket system and it was “solved” in 3 days. It was only solved by you clicking a button to just ignore it!!

I have since give up and moved on to different games!!
