Sadly, I have no video of it as I play on PC and don’t really use the Xbox App (I would much prefer to use Shadowplay) but I did screen cap the final results and you can see a number of CPU cars have laps that have cut more than 10 seconds off their best lap. (I’ll post it if its really needed.)
Anyhow, I never saw this during the course of normal play but I’ve since finish all exhibitions and championships and I’ve been exploring for other races to run outside of Goliath so I was running a 20 lap race with the anything goes and had at least 4 competitors cut a lap in half. The location they are cutting seems to be right by the first jump… I think they jump so far off course that the game sees this closer checkpoint as their next checkpoint and they make the cut.
I have seen them running 55 sec laps in a class when the top times are just under a minute but i say meh. Since the patch they are boring to race against. Anything to mix it up.
Yep, I’ve noticed this too on Mountain Cross Country Circuit. It’s not new, as it happened both before and after the most recent update. But if anything, it might be worse since the update: on one recent 25 lap race, drivatars cut the course on over half of the laps, whereas before it was maybe around a quarter of the laps.
I don’t find it all that bothersome since even on unbeatable I’m easily able to overtake the cutters before the end of the lap. But it is a pretty glaring reminder that the AI is a relative weak point in an otherwise superb game.
I have never seen them miss a checkpoint. The only thing even a little like it is in that race where you jump over the airplane’s wing. I have seen them go around the ramp and not jump but they make the next checkpoint and I actually gain on them by doing the jump. I also almost always have the best laps.
I certainly don’t play on unbeatable though. I’m usually on average or above average. I have only won one race on Highly Skilled. On the off road courses, I usually have to turn it down to Inexperienced, or even New racer to have a chance to win.
In case anyone is unsure what we’re describing, it’s not just the usual “drivatars missing a checkpoint by a few meters” stuff. It’s that they cut about a third off of the course, skipping 5 or 6 checkpoints in the process (pic at the link below). It seems to happen on this particular course because of the lack of hard barriers separating parts of the course (just fields and soft/breakable barriers) combined with how close the sections of the route pass to one another.
[Mod Edit - Abbreviated profanity, profanity and profanity that is disguised but still alludes to the words are not permitted - D] Been racing in a fully upgraded AWD Donkervoort that I usually have no problem beating the drivatars with, but not only did this happen throughout the 10-lap race, but it happened on the last lap, at which point that drivatar seemed to turn into Lewis Hamilton and I couldn’t catch him. Really frustrating. Hopefully they fix this glitch soon.
Actually saw a drivatar miss a checkpoint by a good few metres in a race just then. Wish something could be done to punish these sneaky drivers that cut corners.
I’ve seen it happen on a couple of races but to be honest I haven’t seen it as much as in Forza Horizon 2.
There could be several reasons for this. For one, in FH2 it was prevalent on two particular corners. On one track, it was the very first checkpoint and so everyone noticed it every time. On the other track, the player was forced under an overpass while some drivatars used the checkpoint and others stayed on road and skipped it altogether. This wasn’t as obvious if you were in the lead and not getting passed due to it.
The most frustrating parts of this game are that I don’t yet know all the tracks and I haven’t done all the races. In one particular race I was following the drivatar and followed him right past the outside of the checkpoint. They kept going and I got reset.
Now, to top this off it’s even worse because the reset is not consistant. I’ve had times where I’m in first, I miss a checkpoint, I get reset and I’m still on podium. Ok, so I lost maybe a couple of seconds. Perhaps I lost quite the lead. Other times it takes the game ages to reset you. I had one race where I was in first place, missed a checkpoint and after I was reset back to the track I was 28 seconds behind 2nd to last place - closer to 40 behind 1st.
I remember this one well, along with another on the edge of Montellino where you’d be reset everytime if you followed the drivatars’ course. I’ve noticed very few in FH3 though.
