Mintys' R34 Tune | Unlocked V1.5 - Slight Update

The last time I made my tune public on these forums was FM3 and it was received very well, given the big changes FM5 brings to the table I figured I’d help out the guys that are having trouble with a new tune.

First up, Controller deadzones. Fixing your controller deadzones makes your steering input a LOT more responsive, try it out you’ll love it. (To adjust the deadzones, My Profile > Controller > Advanced (X))

Steering Axis deadzone inside: 0
Steering Axis deadzone outside: 100
Acceleration deadzone inside: 0
Acceleration deadzone outside: 100
Deceleration deadzone inside: 0
Deceleration deadzone outside: 100

The rest you can leave default, I have also turned my vibration down to 40%, the trigger rumble is a cool feature but I just find it distracting.

I’d also suggest turning the silly camera shake off, HUD > Camera Motion Effects > Off.

Ok now onto the build. But just before we do, once again the physics feel very slightly different in test drive than online. So when tuning I’d suggest working on a base tune, trying it online and tweaking it from there.

The Tune

Tyre Pressure - Shout out to the DIS boys for the Tyre pressure tip.

Front: 45
Rear: 27

Gearing

Final Drive: 3.98
1st: 2.50
2nd: 1.84
3rd: 1.49
4th: 1.33
5th: 1.18
6th: 1.03

Alignment - A quick note about front camber, in FM4 I ran -4.0 as a baseline, worked really well for me. However in this Forza I find anything beyond -2.5 just makes the front end feel inconsistent and over rotate too easy. Also in regards to Front Toe, NEVER use more than +1.0, it just makes you slow and twitchy. If you run high Toe and can’t get used to low Toe, bring it down in 0.5 notches.

Camber
Front: -2.0
Rear: -1.5

Toe
Front: 0.0
Rear: -0.5

Deceleration: 100%

I try to be as smooth as possible on controller, twitchy wheels look ugly. To do this I use cockpit view and never return the analogue stick to center, I try to make small adjustments as if I was using a wheel. Here’s a quick run from me on Silverstone (very easy track to learn this), I left my telemetry up so you could see my inputs.

If you want to know more about the technique, just search Drifting with Kami on youtube.

thanks…gonna try this out

Can you explain the high front tire pressure?

It just makes it more predictable, I found with running old psi that the front end would do wierd stuff, over-rotate when it shouldn’t, randomly catch grip and fire you off into the dirt etc… The higher psi just gives you that consistant grip you’d expect in Forza drifting.

Cool. I figured it was something along those lines. I have been running old PSI for a while. Used to it now but I’m gonna give that a shot tonight. Thanks Minty ( and DIS ) for the tid-bit.

My guess would be that it’s more responsive than low pressure.

Well there tires…at the front…and the pressures …high lol.

Its to reduce surface contact with the track thus reducing grip.

Tune feels nice… Gear ratios I’m not familiar with though.
The entire of catalunya school I just can’t find a gear that feels good
Rips through silverstone and long beach.
Just tested the section on big catalunya the one near with the tight hairpin… Nail it through the whole way, except for that straight pulling off from the hair pin I just seem to bog…

Despite thoughts troubles finding gear I’m loving the feel of it, hopefully can derive my own tunes from this.

I just had a quick session on school, I enter the sweeper in Fifth and switch to 4th, everywhere else is 3rd except for 4th on the transition up hill.

I’ll throw a clip up on my upload if it will help, add my GT to see it, XE MintyFresh

Just watched it. Boy you are smooth on the roller… I’m struggling a bit with the roller, hopefully my tx arrives next week

A bit of advice for the wheel, start out on the fully open airfield via the tuning menu with a low powered stock rwd car like the e30 M3. It will allow you to learn how to countersteer on the wheel without the added pressure of track confines, especially if you are going for full 900DOR while drifting. Make sure the deadzones are set the same as Minty suggested for the controller as well, and set your FFB somewhere around 50% and 65% to start. Vibration doesn’t really matter, but I have it on 75%. Try to stay relaxed, dont grip the wheel too hard, and start of slow; and it shouldn’t take too long to get the hang of it.

Nice to see you on FM5 Minty, I will give this a go on the wheel later; I am curious to see how it feels.

Sweet, let me know how it goes.

I will post up once I have tested it, been a bit busy this past week.

Thanks for the tips!
Shouldn’t be too hard to get used to, I’ve been drifting the Microsoft branded wheel since back in Forza 2. Might be a bit in converting from 270 to 900 though. Should be fun

I shall give this a try, along with just the controller deadzones.

You’re still kicking about Aero? What’s up bud, I’ll add you and we’ll get some tandem time in.

I don’t play Forza as much as I used to (Assetto Corsa and iRacing master race), but yeah, I’m still kickin around. I’ll add you as well. :3

Took it for a few laps around Silver Stone National. Feels great, one of the best suspension setups i’ve played with. Each transition landed the nose right where I wanted, and I can push as hard as I want through a turn without a fear of oversteering.

Only issue I have, is the gear ratio. It shifts very smoothly, but I feel the higher gears are just a little too short. Could use to open them up slightly. Otherwise, this car is a very nice.

Good Job!

Awesome

Thank you for this! I used some of the tune on other drift cars of mine and its helping me big time get back into the swing of things on FM5.
