Midnights & The Rally DLC are the best content additions since Blizzard Mountain

It took almost a year and half but am I the only one that feels FH5 is finally where it should have been at launch?

IMO the Rally DLC is the most detailed, engaging DLC of the franchise and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it I’ve played so far.

Thoughts?

Sorry, but I totally disagree. To be honest, I would rather have had another Lego expansion than an expansion that is basically a rehash of what is already available in the game. Personally, I hate the night driving, so this will be a total 4 weeks of little to no play for me.

So, in fact, not only do I not think these are the best content additions, I find them to be the worst two additions in the entire history of Forza Horizon.

That being said, I am happy for you (and others) who are enjoying these additions, but you did ask.

This DLC seems to have split the entire playerbase down the middle.

Personally, I love it. It is flawed, yes. But so was FH3. And FH2. It’s still really good and if the crashing gets fixed, it’s probably the best thing added to Forza since Eliminator in 2019.

Yeah, I’ll have to say I’m on the no side too. Many reasons. Replay probably being the biggest, I just don’t see it here, for me anyway. Then there’s the bugs, crashes, bugs, big bugs, small map, bugs… But, yeah, just one opinion, if it works for you that is great :+1:

Oh sure, start THAT fight

Rally Adventure sits among the best Forza Horizon expansions, that’s for sure. And race routes in Sierra Nueva may be the best ever.

I was waiting for this map to fully enjoy driving Toyota Sports 800 - and it didn’t disappoint me, slow cars truly shine on these twisty, bumpy roads

Flaws? Sure, there are some (like not optimal selection of new cars, considering the WRC-esque formula of rallying here, and annoying auto-pinning of challenges), but all in all I find the expansion very, very enjoyable.

So much in fact that I have problem with going back to the main map to complete the Playlist for Rimac

I finished all the expansion, only few rivals left. I loved it. It’s more challenging, better graphics, have a completely different feel from main map. And most importantly, it’s not segmented (fragmented) like HW.

@BigJim51. Not trying to start an argument here, but can you please explain what you mean by HW being segmented (fragmented). Just trying to understand what you mean. Thanks. :slightly_smiling_face:

To each their own. I’ve never been a fan of the toy based dlc’s since their introduction in FH3. Especially considering those toys have their own dedicated games.

When I look at the current Horizon Rally compared to the OG Rally, Storm Island, Blizzard Mountain & Fortune Island it just feels more complete and immersive than any of the others. Maybe the F&F addition from FH2 but that was more a standalone thing than a proper DLC & really only added NOS & turned a random bldg into a mini garage.

As someone who loves dirt/rally racing this is a great DLC with A LOT of replay value. Also if you take a look at some of my previous posts, I’ve been quite critical of PGG & the state of FH5. Even though I’ve been a dedicated player since FH1 I’m certainly no fanboi but I also believe that credit is deserved when due & PGG hit the mark with this one. Would I change a few details or game play mechanics? Sure, but overall the package is tight IMHO.

I’d also point out that the current Rally DLC really feels as the culmination of all the past non-toy based DLC’s. OG Rally gave us split gates, rally call outs & tighter dirt racing. Storm Mountain introduced the concept of extreme weather conditions & beginning to play with vertical aspects of a playable map. Blizzard Mountain built on both of those but confined itself to a singular season. Fortune Island really expanded on technical roads, elevation changes & four full seasons. FH5 Rally incorporates all those aspects into a singular map for the first time.

I think the past non-toy DLC progression leading us here has been pretty obvious & anyone who convinced themselves it was going to be some tight, city based, urban street racing thing and now disappointed have only themselves to blame.

While I completely agree that the Rally Adventure map and its included content is great, I am less than thrilled with the extended nighttime. I have trouble with nighttime driving in real life, and I’ve never enjoyed it in the game. I’ll be very happy when this series is over, and dread the idea of any possibility that this could become permanent.

It’s that bad for you? It’s like an extra 10mins a cycle. Before the update the night cycle was ridiculously short.

I’m really hoping it becomes a perma addition after the update.

Have you tried changing your Video settings in game? Bump down the contrast, I think I had to do this in FH2 or 3, cause the night was really dark. At the time it helped a lot.

Yep, some people like the night and others of us hate it. The extra 10 minutes is like an eternity for those of us who don’t like it

Night is extended by 10 minutes? It seems I’m going to spend slightly more time in ForzaVista at Horizon outposts then :stuck_out_tongue:

A perfect solution !

I dunno, it’s literally the brightest night time of all 5 games by a lot.

If you’re having that much difficulty with it, it honestly sounds like you need to make some TV or in-game video settings adjustments to your HDR settings or black/white contrast. I had to adjust both in FH3 to get a comfortable feel for the nights. Really not trying to be dismissive just provide a possible solution for a better night driving experience in FH5.

Then again, I play on a 2yr old 75inch HDR 4K UHD television that I sit about 9ft from on the couch when playing. Maybe that’s the difference…I dunno.

Maybe it’s longer than that. I haven’t timed it since the update but it seems to be about 10 mins longer roughly.

Have they released anywhere how long the night extension is since the update compared to previously?

I meant the 3 separate floting islands. Players must drive on hotweels tracks to move from jungle to desert to frozen mountain.

I had timed previously :

Day (headlights off to on) : ~50 minutes
Night (headlights on to off) ~30 minutes (which includes dusk and dawn)

BUT… proper night, darkness, a lot less, ~10 at most

Haven’t timed it out yet since the change, can’t say I’ve noticed a difference in length, occurrences, or darkness of night while freeroaming though.

These neon barriers etc. - Can anyone tell me are they just for the month or permanent?
I absolutely HATE them and can only hope that they go.
I would be happy to see longer nights but not neon lit nights. They’re graphically terrible. The night lighting was never realistic, but this is WAY worse and ruins all paint jobs too.

I think the DLC is more rigorous, isn’t the easy dirt stuff on the main map & a fair example of making a huge amount out of a small map. I like the DLC.

Now the negatives - the only car I’m that concerned with is the Focus. I’m tired of Silhouette offroaders/buggies & well, I dunno, most modern road going Caddies don’t just hugely engage me. The more vintage ones would - but there you go I guess…

I think the extended night time is absolute nonsense. Just more time I’m sitting around in the dark, unable to work on my tunes.

Overall the DLC is something I like alot though. A strong effort.
