Yeah⦠but it really is easier to get used to hitting B plus paddle. That said, one of the reasons I got a wheel is that I have a condition that affects fine motor control, so I have difficulties using a pad in the first place. I didnāt mention that part.
Iām really just trying to encourage a fellow wheel user to try the clutch since itās so easy and so worth it.
TX user here. In theory, manual+clutch will be faster on a wheel. In practice, I find the opposite. Unlike with a controller where you can just press both buttons with the same thumb at the same time, you have to coordinate pressing the button on the front of the wheel while pulling on the shift paddles. I have found that I lose more time in a lap by missing shifts or just fumbling around (due to not getting the timing 100% right) than I lose by not using the clutch. Now that I have my CSR Elite pedals working, I may try it again with the clutch pedal and see if that helps.
The CSR wheel for the 360 had an āauto clutchā feature where it would press the clutch button for you when you used either paddle. That was definitely faster than no clutch.
Iāv been using clutch since Forza 3 on a controller but now in 5 i donāt like it anymore. Yes itās faster but i think downshifting sucks with the clutch. I mean, the revs stay very low while downshifting and i find that very unrealistic. I like the engine to give me a sream with every downshift. I rather be a little slower and have (realistic) sounds) iām more immersed in the game this way.
Then you need to match your revs with the downshift instead of just banging it down the gears
As Don says Manual with Clutch is quicker as its instant, on Manual you tell the game you want to upshift, it then engages the clutch shifts for you and disengages clutch, instead of that taking tenths by hitting both buttons the game doing it is slower
It is quicker in a straight line and it dose improve shift time. It also lets you bounce the car off the rev limiter and shift without any real negative effects that you would see in the real world. (Donāt try this at home on your street car!) However I still believe new players should stick to regular manual until they learn how to drive properly. If you have mastered the art of driving in this game and the only thing slowing you down is the lack of clutch then make the switch. If your still missing braking zones and blowing corners then the clutch really isnāt going to make you any better and you can still get beat by a driver using an auto.
Iāve always used the manual transmission for any racing game I play. I already post some very quick times for the R class in my GT car while using the manual shifting.
Yesterday Iāve just started using manual w/clutch but Iāve noticed a slight drop off in my times. Now I donāt know if thatās because Iām just not use to it and focusing more on shifting instead of driving, but I think it might.
Have you guys noticed a difference between manual and manual w/clutch on the GT cars?
Their is a difference in feel during downshifts and the car feels like it doesnāt have engine braking. So where you normally would roll off the brakes and let the car slow it coasts more.
Oh yeah! I did the bounty hunter event with the GT Viper @ RA with auto clutch first. After the switch to manual clutch my lap times dropped by a good second. But got me quite a few laps to get used to it.
I used to use a clutch in FM3&4 cause I had a Fanatec wheel that had a clutch, but I donāt have a wheel for my X1, and I canāt get the clutch to work properly on a controller. And trust me, Iāve tried for hours to get it to work correctly, but Iām much slower than using a regular manual with the controller. If Fanatec or some other wheel company comes out with a wheel/clutch, I might pick one up for FM6, but for this game, I donāt see the point in putting down the money for a clutchless wheel.
And a very minimum, using the clutch will make it possible to score āhardcoreā times.
That is if you care about getting hardcore stats.
*Hardcore = no assists
I canāt quite hit top 100 out to score points normally but can with āhardcoreā. My problem is before I was content with a top 500 time happy to move from rivals to the hoppers.(top 500 posts to Forzastats) Now Iām trying to get a time good enough to score on forzastats(top 100 out of drivers with no assists) which has significantly increased my time in rivals and decreased my multiplayer time. Getting that extra half second out of the car can be daunting.
Because I race GTās exclusively, I think Iām going to stick with standard manual. On Bathurst with clutch I was running 1:58.5ās. Couldnāt go any faster. Decided to go back to manual and I ran a 1:57.8, good enough for a top 10 for the GT class.
I just think Iām on of those racers who are better with manual instead of manual w/clutch. However, if I were to race on the lower classes Iām definitely using the clutch. I donāt think it has much of a difference on the fast cars, R class and up.
I used to use the clutch in the GT class, I have recently switched to just manual and have dropped lap times by 1 sec on almost all tracks. When using āaā as the clutch there isnāt much thinking to shift I would just mash them both at the same time.
Also going to add that the specific car may make a difference in how much using the clutch helps or doesnāt. GT āRā Class cars all run sequential transmissions vs Super car āRā class cars. Some of the super cars only use DCT transmissions and should be faster using with out a clutch.
Iāve actually seen lots of top times by automatic. The ādifferenceā might be placebo. I use manual without clutch as I believe no modern sports cars should have the drivers take their hands off the steering wheel. Maybe iām wrong lol.
