Make variable weather more progressive

Right now there’s only the option for variable weather in races, but it would be nice to add the variability. Like from 1% to 100%, because almost always when you have variable weather, it will start raining by lap 3 or 4. It would be a pleasant change.

Hello everyone. I’d like to share my thoughts regarding the poorly implemented variable weather system. Turn 10 stated that they are listening to the community, and I really hope so.

The weather options are fine and plentiful. Fair number from dry to wet weather options. But the variable weather system is poorly implemented.

The following sections I will point out some issues, and in the end I will try to suggest solutions for them.

1. Abrupt transitions

The transition between the weather and day/night is too fast and abrupt. If you are racing on a big circuit (LeMans), have you just passed the pits and it starts raining? well…good luck trying to stay on track. After a few seconds, the track becomes soaked and your dry tires will suck.

2. Too wet too fast

The track gets wet too quickly. If it was like Overcast Wet before raining, ok understandable. But going from Clear weather to soaking wet track in a few seconds is ridiculous.

3. Dry to wet, and wet to dry

After testing the variable weather options on medium length races, I noticed that it always changes from dry to wet, and wet to dry in the middle of the race.

4. No weather forecasting advisor

This is related to the first described issue. The worst part of the abrupt weather transitions is no one telling you about it. If so, it’s impossible to plan ahead your race strategy. You just have to get lucky and be close to the pit entry when it starts raining.

5. AI not affected by wet track

When a race starts on a wet track, the AI behaves correctly. However, when the race starts with a dry track and it rains, until the moment the AI makes the pit stop for wet tires, the AI has the same grip as if the track were dry.

Suggestions

  1. The weather and day/night transition needs to be smoother.
  2. The track should become wet progressively, taking into account the track temperature, previous weather and time of day. This kind of transition isn’t just a matter of a few seconds.
  3. The game must use all weather options when varying. From clear to cloudy, from heavy rain to drizzle and so on… And the moment that the weather changes should not always be the middle of the race, it should happen any moment.
  4. There should be a way to tell the player about the weather changes. Wich types of weather and when they will take effect during the race. It could be displayed in the Event Info menu (just like F1 games), it could be a HUD Widget, it could be the Pit Crew telling you.
  5. The AI should be correctly affected by the changing track grip conditions when it rains or stop raining on a variable weather race.

Feel free to comment and make suggestions. I hope the information I said here could be useful and considered by the game devs. I’m really trying to like the game, but each day is getting harder.

Variable wether should be randomly change one wether to another. Ex: partial cloudy to looming clouds to cloudy, or thunderstorm to cloudy to sunny etc.

They should add a feature that allows us to add various types of weather in a race.

Yeah would be nice

the idea seems great on a completely random variable weather mode

We do have random weather but on FM7 you can choose like fog with thunderstorm and then clear. This one you can’t .

Agree with you and also the variable weather in private multiplayer always starts with rain or ends with rain while doing campaign you get actually lots of different variations of weather. If you click on event info you will see like thin fog, thin haze etc.
And the weather if started rolling at noon or morning it doesn’t move at all if put to x24 it won’t move. I don’t know if it’s a bug or not
But I will try again tomorrow

I notice that on several races, the variable weather is more two-tone than realistic. If you could diversify the weather system as much as possible for each race (single-player or multiplayer), that would be much appreciated.

I wish they added more colour pallets to the sky and make it seasons like in horizon 4. More vegetation growing, summer more dryer etc it would be awesome :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:. @UltimatX7501 give us also your opinion and mark people for us to discuss this topic and get more votes.

Got it :+1: I’ll do like always. Of course more things needed but bug fixes so minimal. New content is either. I hope they’ll listen us. Very little bugs not fixed. I’m sure they have to pay me as a beta tester. I’m sure I’m the most bug reporter in forum

@T10ManteoMax is this reported are the team aware of this ? Or needs more votes to get noticed and fixed?

As mentioned in many suggestions about weather options, the transition between wet and dry, or dry and wet should be smoother.

With heavy rain its ok when the road is soaking wet in less than a minute.
But with light rain it should last a bit longer.
Transition from wet to dry should last longer than 2 minutes.

I tested it after update 12 with a 45 minutes race, and 4x time multiplicator.
But time multiplicator and race length do not affect the transition.

With Update 12 we got a new variable weather system but it completely misses the mark IMO. Theres no truly random weather option now, you can only specify that you want a chance for a specific weather to occur at a specific time, and you cant go dry to wet. All these suggestions are really great and we still need a proper weather overhaul.

Edit: I made the rest of this comment into a new suggestion for a different type of ‘true variable’ weather now: More unpredictable weather setting that is not player controlled

Update 12s Variable weather setting is disappointing for me, especially as I waited for it since launch since the old Variable weather didnt work for me. Having less control over the weather is better in this case, and the new settings dont achieve better race strategy or complexity. Knowing that I configured a race to have a 50% chance to switch to rain halfway through is completely different to watching rain clouds roll in and having to think quickly, maybe adjust a pit strategy, plan for the chance of rain, etc.

We need a weather option, lets call it “Progressive”, that gives no configuration options other than a “weather speed”, determining how quickly the weather progresses. Track weather changes gradually and changes need to make sense (clear to cloudy to light rain to heavy rain, or dry with thunderclouds to sudden heavy rain, but never clear to heavy rain).

Every X amount of time (shortened by weather speed setting), each weather type has a chance to progress to another, or stay the same. Rainclouds has a chance to remain cloudy, or become overcast, or progress to light rain, etc. They could even add track specific configurations in the background for this, rain at Yas Marina would be more rare, rain at Spa would be more common.

We were promised dynamic weather which we do not have, I wanted random weather at random times, variable weather is always dry to wet or wet to dry.

What I want is one race where its wet at the start dry in middle and wet at the end, but then next race it could remain completely dry etc. True dynamic weather

Last night while competing in the Nascar multiplayer lobby, there were 2 races that featured wet track conditions.

I applaud Turn 10 for introducing weather into the oval track races, even though it is unrealistic for Nascar Stock Cars to run oval races in wet conditions.

My suggestion is that I’d like to see the conditions change from wet to dry or vice-versa during multiplayer events which would drivers to pit to change tires to handle track conditions.

Turn 10 and Forza Motorsport have come a long way since its inception and I feel like introducing even more pit strategy into multiplayer races would be welcomed by most competitors.
