Looking back at my 2024 liveries

2024 is rapidly coming to an end, and it’s certainly been an interesting year for Forza Motorsport on my personal level! My 2 favorite things that i did with the game is making liveries for my mainly used cars and racing them with friends in the rotation of lobbies for that particular week!

It’s also been a journey of learning how to make logos, brand names and in general making the vinyl pattern to replicate the real life version. Each livery i did, simple or complicated, came with it’s unique challenges that i had to work with or around to get the desired result. However, there was one time in 2024 where i had to scrap a project because of some difficulties. Now, be warned that this is a LONG community post.

Let’s start of with some statistics!
*Note, i will not share the amount of likes I’ve received for all my shared work as nobody really uses that feature. Numbers are also taken from the 30th of December.
•15 projects completed, some with multiple versions
•4 projects won design contests on the forums
•1 project scrapped
•Total downloads : 556
•Total times used : 825
•3 times I’ve seen my liveries used in videos by the creator or someone in their lobby
•Total time invested in liveries : YES

Now, let’s rewind and show of what i made! Some designs will most definatly be familiar while others will be displayed for the very first time. Please keep in mind some designs might also be for my own use only.

  1. '94 Mazda MX-5 / RX-7 IMSA GTO tribute

Arguably THE BEST spec series in the entire game in my opinion is the original MX-5 category. Cheap, barely anything to adjust for a setup and fantastic racing : these 3 points define this series. I sure like to play it a lot when it’s available. So much so i decided to paint the car for myself. As someone who is really into real life racing and trying to look for a connection between a livery and the car used, it didn’t take long for what i wanted to base the design of. Indeed, it’s the FC generation RX-7 that raced stateside (a car we obviously have in the game). Add in some touches to make it look like it would race in a local, low cost, “amateur” series and you have this livery!

  2. '14 Audi R18 / WRT

I’ve always been loyal to Audi when it comes to sportscar racing, especially with the prototypes, with the R18 being my favorite of mine and a stalwart from FM7. For the Forza P1 races then it’s not difficult to choose my main car for that class. Livery wise, this one is a nod to the Ingolstadt based brand it’s collaboration with now-BMW Belgian powerhouse Weerts Racing Team, or WRT for short. WRT raced GT3 Audis from their first time in top class GT racing and won pretty much every (big) race that allowed a GT3 at least once. Starting in 2021, they also took up a prototype program to prepare for a step-up to the Hypercar class in WEC with programs in WEC and ELMS, wich was very succesfull! However, we all know what happened with Audi’s plans since 2023. Going back on track, Audi always had customer team prototypes racing in the early 2000s like with Champion racing, Joest and Oreca. This made me wonder how a customer operated Audi R18 would look like. I then chose the then-used R8 GT3 livery as a base and voila!

  3. Formula Mazda / Prema Powerteam

It’s a shame Formula Mazda it’s popularity has fallen of from when it became a permanent series but before that it genuinly was a great series to race in. Looking for a connection between the American open wheel ladder and big racing teams that i like, i was made aware Prema powerteam (a powerhouse in the European open wheel ladder) ended their short but succesfull LMP2 program to focus on being an operational partner for Iron Lynx their Lamborghini SC63 program… That didn’t age very well with recent news. Except, it kinda did. Prema also revealed they were thinking of starting up an Indycar program, and that’s been recently announced for 2025 with Callum illott and Robert Schwartzmann being chosen to drive the cars! It made too much sense at the time to make this livery then! The pattern chosen is the team it’s 2023 scheme for FIA Formula 2. Side note, i’m thinking of releasing this livery but without the usual personal number and sponsors.

  4. Audi 90 IMSA GTO / Belgian Audi Club

Oh look, another Audi! This time the infamous IMSA GTO spec 90 for the GTX sportscar division. To be honest, i don’t use this car anymore after finding other options that i both like as a fan of the car and how it drives. Regardless, the story behind this livery is similar with the WRT R18 livery but this time for an older group called Belgian Audi Club who partnered up with the former mentioned WRT at times in the 2000s for races like the 24h of Zolder and Spa! It’s the factory livery that i kept but swapped the colors for our national flag’s tricolor!

  1. BMW E30 M3 / Bruno Spengler DTM throwback, Belcar Historic Cup

The E30 M3 spec series is, admitedly, not one of my favorites currently. It’s more down to the way the car feels with skinny tires. Still, at the time i made this livery, i didn’t try this multiplayer lobby yet and of course wanted to dress up fancy for the upcoming races. My choice this time was a livery I’ve seen on an older Minichamps 1/43 scale diecast car from a PR event BMW did with now ex-BMW factory driver Bruno Spengler when he swapped seats with Roberto Ravaglia who is a former BMW ace himself. The number banner used by the Belcar Historic Cup finishes this livery.

  1. Oreca 07/ Nielsen Racing #24 / ELMS 2024 (Pre-Le Mans)

Now it’s the first of the Nielsen Racing collection of liveries from 2024, starting with my beloved #24! Driven in the LMP2 PRO/AM class by John Falb, Colin Noble and Albert Costa Balboa, this livery got them a podium on the opening round of the season at Catalunya! Given they liked my itteration of the '23-'24 Asian Le Mans Series livery, i figured i should do one of these paint schemes again. This project was one that took a lot of energy as the pattern was quite complex to make, but after my tweet showing an early WIP was liked by the team and 2 of the drivers, there was no way in the shadow realm that i was giving up. This livery was also the one that pushed me to publish my work in the game as some people asked for a sharecode. Initially reluctant because of the stories about this glitch that existed at the time, i decided to share this livery anyway out of respect for the fans of the team!

  1. Ligier JSP3 (Gen1) / Nielsen Racing #7 / Michelin Le Mans Cup 2024

I was beyond overjoyed when it was announced Forza Motorsport was getting an LMP3 car (i believe in the same update with the Ginetta G56 GT4 car). Double luck that it was a Ligier chassis. Nielsen have a lot of history with this chassis in terms of success. However, this year was the final year for their LMP3 program. From what i understand, this chassis is now under ownership of Viper Neza who offered it up to Inter Europol after one of their LMP3s crashed hard (driver ok!) in the opening weekend of the '24-'25 ASLMS. This livery combines the 2024 Michelin Le Mans Cup car (Anthony Wells and Wayne Boyd) with the old gen 1 LMP3 car. Out of all liveries Nielsen used this year, i think this one was the prettiest. The colors compliment eachother much better in my opinion. Raise chaos praise LMP3!

  2. Oreca 07 / Nielsen Racing #24 / 2024 24h of Le Mans, ELMS 2024 (post-le mans)

This is the team’s special livery for Le Mans! Adding to their anniversary year, this livery was made up by combining the bits from liveries used in 2022, 2023 and the main pattern from 2024. A striking combination to say the least! Driven at Le Mans by David Heinemeier Hanson, Kyffin Simpson and Fabio Scherer, the car finished a troubled race second-to-last across all LMP2 cars entered. In ELMS, John Falb and Colin Noble were accompannied by now-former BMW factory driver Nick Yelloly (who was kind to sign my 1/64 scale M Hybrid V8 diecast)! This livery also achieved 1 podium at the final round of the season at Portimao! I always like to show my work to the teams or drivers themselves and for the first time ever i got some very kind words from them! This really ment a lot to me!
Some might also know this livery from the design contests held on the forum, one wich indeed won on debut! Yes, this was the very first submission i did ever on this platform and somehow it resulted in being selected! That being said… This livery has some missing sponsors i didn’t make at the time and there’s not enough gold on the car (only the rear wing and wingmirrors were possible), along with a few details i might have missed. But these are ultimatly lessons i take with me for Future projects!

  3. Oreca 07 / Nielsen Racing #27 / ELMS 2024

Yes, the team indeed bought another Oreca chassis this year! The #24 raced in the LMP2 PRO/AM while the #27 did rounds in LMP2 PRO. Driven by Will Stevens, David Heinemeier Hanson, Benjamin Pedersen, Nicolas Pino and Gabriel Aubry. The latter 3 joined the team later in the season due to varrying reasons. The car itself, perhaps expected on debut, struggled a lot throughout the whole year but was gaining valueable experience, experience that would result them on the final weekend of the season leading in the very early phase of the race after an amazing start by Gabriel Aubry! Given that i just finished the Le Mans car at the time, i figured i might as well work on the #27 straight after. Swapping the number panels and the colors used didn’t take long, wich then completed all liveries used by the team in 2024 (counting cars represented in the game).

  1. Ginetta G56 GT4 / Seneca Racing (fictional)

Forza GT4. A class released too early yet could provide amazing racing when given the chance. The races i did with friends in this class were some of the best all year so, perhaps i’m the only one, i was kinda sad to see the class go away though it was understandable why it had to be done. I’m sure once we get more cars, it will be better than ever! Getting back on track, perhaps my choice of livery is controversial given this being part of a rival product for Forza Motorsport but regardless, this was a really fun project. While others have made Seneca Racing liveries already, i decided to make mine with the SRO GT4 European Series branding and rules in mind. Similar to the Comtoyou Aston Martin Vantage i made, this means that this livery could technically be used in actual competition!

  2. '18 Aston Martin V8 Vantage GTE / Comtoyou Racing / ELMS (fictional)

The Road Atlanta update was another certified favorite of mine this year! Bringing in a car i was hoping to see next to a car i very much didn’t expect to be added at all, i can remember the smile i had on the way back from work. While i used the C8.R in Forza GT2 races, i ultimately decided to switch to my 2nd favorite GTE car that is the Aston Martin (the C8 lost too much out on straight line speed). Seeing Waterloo based squad ComToYou Racing taking full advantage of their switch from Audi to Aston Martin (all because of a Facebook message i believe), i was super happy to see them win this year’s 24h of Spa! It’s special when you see someone win on home soil, especially if it’s a race as big as the Spa 24h! I digress again, for this project i decided to go all out on details knowing this livery was arguably the easiest to make from my previous projects. I downloaded the ENTIRE FIA driver ratings catalogue and compared championship calenders to make sure the drivers that i chose would be able to do the full ELMS season! This was a lot harder than it seems but i got the result i wanted! Add in sponsors used by the drivers and teams in competition and you got a very plausible livery for real life usage!

  3. Nissan Altima V8 Supercar / Nielsen Racing #24 (fictional)

Arguably my weirdest project this year but one that made the yearly highlights for all design contests! Anticipating the current update it’s V8 supercar lobbies, i was looking for what car to use and i steered towards the Altima. The main reason being that the engine in the car was the same as the one in the outgoing generation LMP3 car. That link was enough for me to choose the Nielsen Racing livery used in Le Mans Cup as a weird crossover… A weird crossover that looks really good to be honest! This livery was arguably a submission for the design contest i was the least confident in knowing the competition that week was, in my opinion, much better, yet somehow i was selected again! Fun fact, I’ve spotted someone using this very design in a video published by Erratic GT!

  4. Toyota Camry next-gen nascar / Race Planet Team Bleekemolen #72 / Nascar Whelen Euro Series

This is my most recent submission in the design contests. It’s the #72 Camry used by Marc Goossens in the Nascar Whelen Euro Series adapted to a next-gen Camry! I’ve already told the story behind this livery recently in said submission so take a look in the most recent design contest to read up on it!

  1. Ford Mustang Dark Horse next-gen Nascar / Race Planet Team Bleekemolen #11 / Nascar Whelen Euro Series

Finishing the nascars i made for '24, this is Ryan Vargas his car that he raced at Zolder, the final weekend of this year’s European nascar championship. Normally, he would be racing in the 3F racing #30 Camaro but something happened where he had to switch cars and teams that weekend. Ryan was cool to talk with, especially in regards to his experience racing in Europe and how he adapts between the cars he races here and America (yes, he also races in the odd Xfinity or Craftsman truck race, or sometimes late models). Hopefully we’ll see him back racing in Europe next year!

  2. Oreca 07 / Nielsen Racing #24 / 2024-2025 Asian Le Mans Series

Finally, we reach the 15th and last project this year. Nielsen’s current entry for the Asian Le Mans Series raced by Naveen Rao, Matt Bell and Corvette factory driver Nick Catsburg! So far the car scored 2 P5 finishes! A solid start to the season! This livery was suprisingly complicated to make. The wavey pattern caused some headaches in making it smooth and matching it with all the mapping on the car. Some of the sponsor decals also weren’t 100% perfect (databricks) but again, i think it’s good enough for what i can do.

Phew… That only took 2 hours to write down  so now that you’re up to speed on the past, let’s look ahead at the future!

First of all, a small list of cars i wish to paint at some point if i got the time, energy and ideas :
•BMW M1 procar
•Subaru BRZ (preferably in Rowe Racing colors)
•Ginetta G60 Junior
•Chevrolet Camaro next-gen nascar
•Mazda MX-5 cup (the modern one)
•Nielsen Racing 2025 liveries, assuming they’re not too difficult
There’s a few more cars on this list but as we don’t have them in the game (yet), i want to keep those under wraps until the time comes. Rest assured, there are worth the wait!

That wraps up (pun intended) my year in review for liveries in 2024! On a closing note, it really has been amazing seeing people genuinly enjoy my work and i really can’t thank everyone enough that downloaded or used my liveries online! 2025 looks to be a promising year already if the next update for the game is anything to go by! If you somehow are still reading this, you too are very welcome for allowing me some of your time to read up on all this gibberish .

So, once more, thank you very much and i’ll hope to see y’all again in 2025! Happy painting and happy racing!

This is good content :+1:t6:

Message me later, I might need your help.

Love the work. Driving the Nielsen Oreca all the time. Can we also expect for example the APR car from the LM24 and Asian Le Mans Series?

First of all, thank you for the kind words!

Second, me making one of the Algarve Pro cars is something i, for now, don’t see myself doing. The pattern they use is certainly doable but some of the sponsor logos might be too time consuming and complicated for my liking (i also like to do the odd race on a day-by-day basis). I wouldn’t be able to guarentee a result that meets the standards i hold to myself. I also always prefer to make the liveries of the teams, brands, cars and drivers i support the most (Comtoyou Racing, WRT and especially Nielsen Racing. That’s why i make so many of theirs in the game ).
