Hey Players,

I’ve been playing FH5 since its release with my Elite controller, but it felt like steering and acceleration were difficult to control, and bought the G923 to try handle both. Unfortunately, there’s settings to be figured and set before getting to be number #1.

To be honest, this is my first sit down of working any game where settings need to be paramount for a perfect race/challenge to be won, and being an old gamer, (first time on any XBox), there’s a lot to be left desired for and consider. Unlike 10 years ago, we just sat and drove. Today, we have the power to change settings, and win races & challenges on our own merits.

My first reaction after setting up the SIM wheel, pedals and shifter on an older style SIM frame used on a PS3 driving game, (this time without the race seat involved, and using a lounge chair to sit at which is much more comfortable), was it’s great to drive on cruises, but drifts so far are too hard to handle, and so it seems are other cars when turning while accelerating. I haven’t got a separate brake handle set-up yet, (I think these are being called e-brakes?), I’m still thinking about getting one.

Button Mapping seems like there’s an issue between the wheel settings in FH5, of which I’ve tried so far fiddling with each setting, but it seems FH5 is leaving settings up to us to decipher through?

When wanting to get advice from those who’ve been at it longer than I, I came here to get help. I tried searching for previous posts on this website related to this topic, but there looks to be little to none and more online.

Can players shed some light on this subject, as I’d really like to drive better with this wheel’s settings at a premium, but I’m not sure how’s the best way to deal with this?

Thanks in advance

I dont’ know if I will be able to help you in any way, but I’ve been using wheel since FH4. I started on keyboard and then moved to wheel for the same reasons you did.

Drifting with wheel is much, much harder to learn, because unlike keyboard or controller, you have to actually turn the wheel (how much depends on your steering setup) to get tyres from one steering angle to another. It simply takes more time to do it with a wheel. But once you learn how, it can be much more satisfying, since it’s more challenging and you can control your car better than with a button or a knob.

In my experience with FH5, turning while accelerating depends a lot on the car you are driving and tune you are using. I only tune gearbox and/or differential. But top drivers fiddle with other sections as well.

How to setup you wheel settings? That’s not so easy to explain. My default settings, when I started with FH5 made my wheel shake like crazy, so I started with lowering everything on the bottom half of your “Advance settings” (“vibration scale” and down) to minimum values and then test them while slowly raising their values. There are few YT videos you can watch and see it better than I can explain with words.

I should also warn you of two wheel features in FH5 that were not present in FH4.

  1. Every time you start your game, you have to reapply which wheel setup you are using. It simply defaults to default. I Imagine it says “Logitech G923” in you case. So, if you are using “Custom wheel profile”, you have to tell the game that every single time you start the game. It’s just one of those things it’s impossible for a computer game to memorize.

  2. If you like using Forza link, it might prove difficult for you to do that, since you can’t use the same button (switch buttons) for activating Forza link and one of your phrases. First you activate Forza link, than you have to use 1-4 buttons on your keyboard, to make a comment. It worked in FH4, but this is a new game and it’s just too difficult to implement some logic in you setup.

I hope I was able to help you in any way. Have fun.

I came across the following blog:

I just bought the wheel and it’s on its way. This is where I’m planning to start with.
