Limit on the number of designs

Hello everyone, I have a question, is there a limit on the total number of designs in FH5? In FH4 there was a 500 limit on the design, this counter is not in part 5, was this limit hidden or was it removed?

There is a limit. I can’t remember what it is. I do know I ran up against that limit and had to cull a slate of liveries which is sad since I’ve only got this game a few months ago.

Definitely needs a counter.

I hit it at 533, there is a screen somewhere (not in front of my console at the moment) that shows how many you have.

I’m very disappointed … there should be a minimum of 1 for each car.

We can’t even change the base color (like if you were buying it through the Autoshow) of the cars, which is just another fail.

its really stupid i have same problem and i cant paint all cars if its going like that

Same here, I’m about 535ish, limited number of designs for the cars it should be a minimum of 1 each for each car, now about 700+. What is the reasoning behind the limited number of designs which can be saved. I have even searched for duplicate or unused designs which is monotonous to say the least but find myself no deleting designs for cars I no longer drive or dont drive very often

I’ve been running into this for a while now & at last count, I had “only” 438 shared liveries & just a handful of other liveries from other players. I think it also has to do with the complexity of the designs & vinyls, but agree that’s it’s annoying working on a new design then receiving the message that I can’t save it until I delete others.

My “design cap conspiracy theory” is that it’s a constraint that has to do with the xbox api/file system/etc. They’re pretty tight lipped about the limit, and they’re likewise pretty quiet about other similar Xbox constraints (like the Xbox file system at the heart of the censored word list on the share titles/descriptions).

I feel like if there was a simple way to increase the number, they would. But also remember that the “average user” is a gamepass user who hasn’t sunk much time in and would never even approach the limit. Folks who get the “completionist” accolade and have a full suite of liveries and tunes are a corner case for them.

But it’s those dedicated long time players spending hours in designing things that MAKE the game huge in the play metrics (well, the ones that SHOULD count anyway, not the bogus MILLIONS of players they brag on about).

Seems like they would be bending over backwards to make a small increase in save capacity however it works. Especially when those few doing the work of many wouldn’t mean a massive increase in capacity overall.

Unless they’re assigning (i.e. locking up) XBytes for every player who has ever “played” the game even if it’s just download and bored after waiting minutes for it to load and never started the game again.

Now, if it’s some local save issue that’s another thing entirely.

I have no idea why each car cant have its own design files. I have no idea why painting a car in its factory color pallet takes up a design file. This really needs to be addressed soon.

This has been the same since Forza Motorsport 5. And yeah, it was pretty stupid and it still is.

The last time the devs talked about file limits was years ago in FH4 as the car limit was increased from 700 to 1000 (if I remember correctly…) They had quite a lot of trouble in the beginning as some people actually lost cars from their garage. Mike Brown apologized for that and explained that they cannot simply increase the numbers and everything is fine. There are indeed some constraints in the file system and they had to carefully aproach the limit after which file corruption sets in… At least, that’s how I remember it explained.
It seems to be a precarious subject that they do not want to talk about…

Ah, the ostrich coding approach. If we ignore it the problem doesn’t exist.

Thanks to this genius tip I was able to free up over 200 design slots.

Yeah, Abysmal way to design your file system. And again. Unless this games code is truly that Kubrickian. Theres no reason regular paint needs a file save slot, They can absolutely tie it to the cars value itself. This is the only game that I know of that does colors this way and it needs to change if it causes this much trouble when they reach its limitations.
