Just started play the demo with my g920 and after tweaking the settings I was having a blast.
I noticed while playing that there was a reset car option on the pause menu. It is left stick button to reset your car, I’m not sure if you can do it while playing or only on the pause menu. Anyway, I pushed the LSB button on my wheel and nothing happened. I also noticed people honking their horns and I didn’t know how to. After checking the settings I found that was on the right stick button which also doesn’t work.
I thought this was weird so I set my controller up and tried the button on it and they worked fine. Then I looked online for people with a similar issue and found that the buttons are not even supported…What?
An Xbox branded wheel with the buttons labelled as LSB and RSB don’t do anything. Ok, so why hasn’t Microsoft or Turn 10 (owned by Microsoft) sorted this issue? I think this is a lucky time as the game hasn’t released yet and there is still time to get this issue sorted for a day 1 patch.
So why are the buttons not supported? What can we even do to fix this limitation?
I believe they are not supported in any game thus far, although I’m kinda on the same boat with you here. It’s a Microsoft studio and it’s only recently they added wheel support. While doing so at least they could’ve taken this into account …
Its a little ridiculous that this hasnt been changed by now. If we cant use all the buttons on our wheel at least they should let us map buttons, why do i need to choose between looking behind me or being able to change my view. Next gen…
Really disappointed that I cant use the horn on my Thrustmaster 458 spider wheel as it hasn’t been assigned to a button. ‘X’ doesn’t do anything so it should be assigned to that.
I’ve been looking around and found this on the Project Cars forums:
"I got a response back from the FW engineer and it requires some explanation. Microsoft treats gamepads and wheels as completely different devices. For some reason, when Microsoft created support for wheels, they excluded the RSB and LSB buttons! Because of this, there are no games that support these buttons on any official XBox Wheel, Logitech or not. We’ve added a mechanism so that, in the future, game developers have the ability to support these buttons. But, of course, this requires the game developer to add support for.
Long story short, as of this moment, existing games will not support the LSB/RSB buttons even with the firmware update because it’s not supported by Microsoft. We will be informing game developers about our LSB/RSB support so that they can generate patch updates for existing games, and get the support into their game engines for future titles."
So I think what this means is Microsoft doesn’t support it, but Logitech have found a way around this. This does mean that instead of working with Microsoft for control support they would have to work with Logitech / the wheel manufacturer to get it to work correctly. Which I doubt any developer will do as I imagine only Logitech have this workaround atm.
Edit: made this to vote on - [Removed]
Edit 2: let’s use the one Steve Rcgers posted seeing as it has a lot more votes and has more potential
The problem is, people are complaining more about making games backwards compatible then these serious issues. As you can see, this one has been around for more than a year! And it only has 560 votes. I think we will never see any support for this from them.
Maybe we can try and gather some people to vote on it here.
I spoke with someone on the Xbox support live chat and they said they agree with my statements that’s it seems odd that more buttons are not supported. They also said they have an internal way for them to submit ideas and bugs straight to where it’s needs, which is neat. I hope it wasn’t just some user suggestion dump they don’t even look at.
Anyway, how often do the Turn 10 / Playground Games look on these forums? Is there a more direct route to submit suggestions to them?
