It's now possible to stream FH4 w/ window capture option in the new OBS update (25.0.0)

Source: Github release notes

This is huge because now finally there’s a way to capture & stream Forza without having to do the whole display capture thing where you really can’t multitask and have to be careful what you show on stream + there should be performance improvements that come with window vs display capture change! I’m now finally able to use x264 encoding with faster CPU preset (Ryzen 2700X) and the game actually looks pretty good!

Special thanks goes to OBS developers & contributors who finally figured this out, especially considering MS/FH developers weren’t interested in fixing this for years.

can you give more info on how to actually do this?
is this with obs? post a link to the source too maybe

That’s correct, this works in OBS 25.0 (as stated in title) and later versions. All you need to do is add a Window Capture, launch the game and it will show a yellow border around it.

Window Capture

You may need to press ALT + Enter keys to exit and enter full screen again or alternatively just disable and enable Window Capture for ForzaHorizon4.exe in OBS. Do note that this did not work in OBS at the time I posted this, perhaps they updated it on their end as well by now. Also if you want to read more about it, I linked the source of this update in original post as well.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have and I’d be more than happy to help you set this up if it’s not working for you for any reason.

Has anyone managed to get this working properly? My stream is very laggy showing many rendering and encoding frames being missed but no other game suffers from this, I’ve noticed this goes away when you choose to stream at 30 fps but prefer 60 for obvious reasons

Has anyone got this working with smooth 60 fps capture?

That’s strange, I’ve been streaming at smooth 60 fps for a week (even though I play at 100 FPS). What are your system specs? Do you get 60 when using display capture for FH4?

1600x / 2070 super / 16gb

So it turns out FH4 utilises my PC like no other game, as my stream runs fine at 60 fps once I limited my in game FPS to 83 (165hz native).

In game fps was always fine at around 100 but obviously leaving no resource for OBS to produce a smooth stream, thanks for your response

Finally, hopefully it works with FH5 on day one : )
