I want to stream this game on Twitch, my problem is that, whenever I have both Forza Horizon 4 and OBS open, FH4 crashes immediately when using “capture a specific window”.
I have also tried catching any full screen application which doesn’t crash FH4, although, it only catches the Audio, and there is no video coming through to be seen on OBS.
I am a PC user, my specs are as follows; CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 RAM: 16GB OS: Windows 10 Pro Build 17134 GPU: Gigabyte RX560 4GB running with Radeon Software Version 18.8.2
In terms of audio, is this gameplay audio or your own audio through a microphone/headset. Also does the crashing occur before or after you click “start streaming”
It appears that you have the most recent update for OBS but try to adjust the settings within OBS. Potentially lower the bitrate and see if this helps.
If it continues, try to uninstall and reinstall OBS but be wary that this may get rid of any settings or sources that you may have set up so you might want to save or keep note of them beforehand.
It is capturing desktop audio and then my mic audio on another track.
I can have both FH4 and OBS running at the same time, however, when I put it to capture a specific window it will instantly crash FH4 with no error reports.
So as Rent a Hero mentioned, it is the actual hook that OBS uses to capture the specific display that conflicts with something within FH4.
I don’t believe this is an issue with OBS settings (including output bitrate), rather an issue with FH4 simply denying the application hook from OBS when using Game Capture ->Capture Specific Window.
Display Capture works fine as OBS is not hooking into the game directly.
Game Capture works as intended in FM7 but not in FH4 at the moment. I can’t say for certain if this is an issue on the OBS side or the game side, but my testing seems to indicate that the issue lies on the game side (FH4 doesn’t like OBS trying to hook in). That said, I do believe it will be rectified in due course.
Came here for a solution… I’ve got it working but only through setting up screen capture on OBS. Which is fine once you’ve turned off windows notifications and have a second/third monitor like I have. It’s not ideal, nor is it an actual ‘fix’ but it works. hope this helps (Y)
First post on the forums just to say I also have same issue. FH4 has massive issues when trying to run while OBS is even open. This might be AMD specific? My specs as follows:
Ryzen 7 1700X
Rx 580 8GB
256GB SSD
Latest version of OBS
Same issue here; have to use display capture as a work-around which is less than ideal for various reasons. I suspect it is some sort of an anticheat measure or DRM issue or just a simple oversight. In any case we’ll probably have to wait for a W10 and or FH4 patch to fix this. Also this is not just AMD since I got Intel/Nvidia combo.
My issue with OBS isn’t crashing, but for some reason I can’t get any audio from the game. OBS detects sound from it when the logos come up for Playground and Turn 10, but everything after that is silent. I was going to do an all day stream Friday for my friends, and one of them was like, “Hey, there’s no audio.” Spent an hour trying all kinds of things to fix it, but OBS would not get any audio from the game whatsoever. Sorry if I’m jacking this thread, but I just figured we could lump our OBS issues in here together.
My issue with FH4 is that it will not even open as long as OBS is running. Even when I open FH4 first and get it running, the moment I launch OBS FH4 will quit.
I just wanted to give you all an update around this whole freakin’ mess. I have tried everything I can think of with both OBS and XSplit to no bloody avail. So I did some extra searching and came across THE! recommended program that Streamers use, Streamlabs OBS! This is not to be confused with OBS itself, they are two completely different programs.
This program not only enables you to be able to stream, record and do both at the exact same time, it will also allow you to have twitch overlays on your streams via the twitch hook-in. Oh and another bonus? It can record directly to an .mp4 extension file from stock, of course you’ll have to go through settings to be able to do this, although it is still there reducing any recording file sizes you may have to endure over the long-term prior to editting.
All you need to do is have it capture a specific display (best if you have 2+ monitors like I have).
Exact same issue as stated in First post, bitrates need adjustments and I ended up switching back to Streamlabs obs using display capture specs as follow:
Same issue here, also. I can only get it to work with Display Capture, but it doesn’t seem to be performing very well. I have a pretty beefy PC, and stream all my other games with no problems, and at 6,000Kbps. I originally started with Streamlabs, but a bunch of my games kept crashing, and it didn’t seem to agree with my computer, so I switched to OBS, and this is the only problem I’ve had with it after a year. It’s definitely something on Forza’s side of things. I’d rather not have to switch back to Streamlabs, and hope that all the previous problems have gone away. Hopefully they’ll see that it’s a problem, and be able to do something about it.
