[ANSWERED] Forza Horizon 4 is having a major conflict with OBS

Just reporting that I have this issue too.

Try to turn off the preview function of OBS by right-clicking the preview screen on OBS and unchecking it. That might help…

Hello, not to sound like a conspiracy fan, but could it be that Microsoft doesn’t want anyone streaming their game on any public streams, it’s not like they would profit from anyone doing so! Seems kinda strange that on my computer i can load OBS, and Forza 4, but soon as i select “A specific window” in the OBS settings, it crashes Forza!

I initially thought that, but if that was the cause, why would they even bother with implementing Mixer functionality within the game? FH4 even has a streamer mode in the audio section (which definitely DOES NOT WORK cause I’ve been hit with two contentID notices from YouTube already.)

I’m on Ryzen 5 1600, and while the game runs fine enough, streamlabs is giving me issues even with local recording on NVENC CQP at 27. I’m locked at 60, and the recording chugs every now and then, all while the game is smooth as ever.

Any news on this getting fixed?

Having this issue also. Plus I get no audio through my headphones, can hear every other game so it’s an issue with Forza. Would love to stream this from my PC but impossible with the issues.

Just a heads up, turn 10 is owned by microsoft, microsoft owns mixer, they dont care about twitch

I’m having the same issue as everyone above me… Keeps crashing.

I have same issue trying to capture using “Game Capture” on OBS.

We can workaround it using “Display Capture” mode, but it’s capture have a terrible framerate.

I too am having the same problems. Its quite annoying. Come on MS. Fix it. I dont want to nor ever use just mixer…

How is this not fixed yet and it’s not even on the list of Know Issues / To Be Fixed?

Seriously?

I solved the issue, you just have to remove the current Forza Horizon Scene from OBS and then open the game. after that dont use game capture, rather use Display Capture.

Hello i just realised that i have also conflict with forza horzion 4 and streamlabs obs. Don´t use game capture, use display capture and everything works fine!

Just to clarify, the problem is not what with the streaming platform (e.g Mixer / Twitch / Youtube / Facebook) but an issue that seems to appear with OBS and XSplit.

The workaround is currently to use ‘display capture’ but please still submit a ticket if you’re having this issue.

To set this right. OBS and Xsplit ain’t the issue. It still is the overzealous DRM. God damn it, just whitelist both of those programs. I cancelled my gamepass because of this issue. Game is a stuttery mess while using display capture as it forces the buffering from DWM on you.

How can this still be an issue like [Mod Edit - Abbreviated profanity, profanity and profanity that is disguised but still alludes to the words are not permitted - D]

Here is the hilarious part, the display capture works but only if you’re willing to play at toaster level graphics and record/stream at 30fps like a peasant. I discovered that even while not recording/streaming and with NDI off OBS has a hard time keeping up at 60fps which is rather absurd considering at that point its just open and sitting there idle. Now if the game really was that resource heavy I would understand but its really not, assetto corsa for example, in races with 30+ cars taxes the cpu harder than forza 4 at max everything but the funny part is, these issues don’t exist in that game with either game or display capture even though at times its way more of a resource hog.

For now it appears the official reply from Turn 10 is either “use display capture” or “its your hardware”. They seem to be pulling the typical Microsoft level of tech support I have come to expect from their level 1 staff. I am actually surprised none of them have tried telling someone to reinstall their OS yet.

My current working theory is that Microsoft doesn’t want people streaming on anything outside their proprietary software and the fact this has been an issue since launch with no fix in sight kinda proves that. Maybe I’m wrong, so please Turn 10 and Microsoft, prove me wrong, do something, fix this.

Yeah using display capture can either force vsync on you or the buffering from DWM thats why the performance is so horrible. I played the demo in the stream was was astounded how GOOD it ran on my 1060 ( I now have a 2070) everything really high.

Then I went to get gamepass as I really liked the game and wanted to play it in the stream more. Guess what? Played one time as their dumb DRM doesn’t want nothing to do with any of it. Played it off stream and then got really annoyed as nothing got fixed and cancelled my Gamepass.

How long did it take for them to whitelist OBS in FM7?? Couple years? Yeah, I don’t get it. Well okay seems like you don’t this game streamed in really fluid 60fps…WHO WOULD WANT THAT?!

same issue here, copy and pasted from my microsoft forum post.

"Old news but OBS game capture crashes Forza 4 and monitor capture performs like a 1995 dell even though my main build runs an i7 7700 with 32gb of ddr4 on x264 encoding. This is a Forza 4 specific issue, if I use the same settings in Assetto Corsa, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Black Ops 4 or any other game I play this issue doesn’t exist (both game and monitor capture work perfectly fine in other games). Fun fact, OBS NDI on the gaming pc, while not even encoding, OBS struggles to keep up even though the game is running 80+ fps at all times, and none of my hardware is thermal throttling or being pushed anywhere near its limits.
