Its not a racing or a driving game

A 97-98% representation of an online experience and the “games” inability to teach players the basics. I should not be over 10 seconds in front of 2nd place, I don’t care how bad the other player is. I’m downright exhausted and bored of the same experience every time. Even if by some miracle one or two players join with some level of energy to actually win a race it will last a mere 1 or 2 championships before the lobby disappears.

The tune isn’t overpowered, the car isn’t overpowered for the class.

This is a system that has softened up racing etiquette and turned out a car collecting free-roam simulator.

There’s only 2 reasons the player is not getting consistent wins, either he doesn’t care about winning (of which why is he in the session?) or he simply doesn’t know how to build cars. The latter I find more believable.

With game pass and an influx of players where are the tutorials? Where are the story or cinematic based designs of teaching people this is what this upgrade does, instead of giving you 200 lines of tooltips that everyone just skips over and resorts to a YouTube cult influencer to get their information?

The main game may as well be stunts, drift zones and mostly offline as there is no racing and the driving that exists is slumber some and unrewarding.

And this is coming from someone who ACTIVELY reduces my own chances of winning by keeping every single car I build with it’s “default engine” meaning no aero, no swaps. Only when in A class will I adopt rally tyre for the grip if needed.

May I ask…

PC or XBox ?

Keyboard, Controller, or Wheel ?

Assists ?

XSS, Controller, M/C, all assists off except driving line

just by using M/C you are instantly 3 seconds faster than everybody else. 99% of the players online are on automatic + other assists. if you’re looking for some real competition and better players, FH5 is just not your game. it’s not meant to be competitive by design.

It’s not even implemented “evenly”. Wheel users do not see the same bonus while using M/C, unless you’re slamming your pedals like a maniac, trying to powershift.

Thanks. Then, I don’t get it. You’re a god ? A 10 second lead 1st to 2nd is something I rarely see. There’s usually one or two (occasionally more) way back but not all or most of the team. And before anyone gets the wrong impression, no, I’m not the one in 1st lol.

For example Trial yesterday I was in 2nd briefly (couldn’t catch the 1st AI off like a bat out of… anyway. I couldn’t maintain top speed and the team all eventually passed me, I don’t mind anchor holding the AI, one team mate missed a checkpoint and got back in because I did. But nobody caught that 1st AI. Second race same as the first except all AI were passed and full team win. And nowhere near a 10 second difference even 1st to 6th as I recall.

Maybe you’re just having bad luck match making. I know I was for ages after launch. Been better the last couple or few series. Earlier in the week finds more “interested” drivers it seems.

2.43 in B at Dunas Blancas is an elite time though. It’s top 200 at rivals and obviously most of the faster times are in powerbuilds. I suspect you could give 90% of players 2 hours in rivals with the best B class tune and they wouldn’t beat that time.

I don’t disagree with your point but I’d argue that the game also gives players no tips on how to “get gud”. If that guy who came second did 2.53 in single player the game wouldn’t tell him how bad his driving was or make him do the race again. The game is dumbed down so that anyone can win. There’s no “boss” races or anything like that which could force players to actually improve.

A lot of people never adjust controller deadzones and don’t know the way. Those 2 things alone can can make a huge difference. I could see a route like coast run in B or most classes being borderline impossible for newer/less skilled players to finish within 10 seconds of someone who can do elite times on tap.

I disagree.

Previous titles such as FH4 had ranked racing for solo, group and drift. There are leaderboards left right and center. Rivals. head to heads along with an array of other competitive game modes. This game is literally drenched in competition. Also just because this is a sim-arcade game and not Forza motorsport doesn’t mean it’s not competitive or shouldn’t be or can’t be.

The problem with this game, specifically FH5 is it currently does competitive game play really really reallllllly poorly. Match making is non existent and is merely RNG, matching new players against seasoned pros. Leaderboards are absolutely broken and filled with impossible times. Certain cars are severely unbalanced. Players are cheating in Eliminator. The list of issues around competitive gameplay goes on and on…

How have they improved competitive gameplay in FH5? As you know they removed all forms of ranked racing and they added a leaderboard which ranks players based on time played. Which shows competitive gameplay keeps getting better!!!

This is the result of poor match making or people experimenting with different cars/tunes.

Solution? Have a mode where players can race against each other in a competitive setting if they choose to which pairs them with players of similar skill. I will call this mode ranked.

Also have a less competitive mode where players can test tunes or try new cars or just have a fun race against others while still being able to win prizes but having no consequences of losing such as losing rank. I will call this mode non ranked.

FYI yes I am a rocket scientist coming up with these great new ideas.

I specifically talk about FH5 here, not FH4. And just as you say they almost removed all competitive elements. So basically you are disagreeing even though you are actually agreeing lmao :>

FTFY

…IMHO, it’s Pokemon but with cars.

Fair. You’re correct that players shouldn’t buy FH5 if they are looking for competitive gameplay, despite the fact it’s drenched in it. The reason being which we can both agree with is because they have absolutely ruined competitive gameplay and what remains is completely broken with cheats and bugs. FH5 could be as competitive and fun and engaging as previous titles but this currently isn’t the case and unfortunately may never be again, at least not in FH5.

Just to put this in perspective. OP set a World Record for this specific car (must be a hell of a tune) on Dunas Blancas and a overall top 180 time in a non RWD Power Build car and is unpleased about the fact that nobody seems to be able to beat him. that’s actually hilarious

When Superman looks for a challenge and finds only ennui…

I totally agree <3

Maybe but the OP has a valid point around match making in general which as I say is non existent. Players shouldn’t have to use untuned cars or wait 10 seconds in order to find a challenge. Instead the system should match players against similar skilled opponents or categorize cars in a more level playing field. Without this it can largely be a solo player experience.

In terms of match making my proposal is simple. Introduce a basic rank system consisting of the following 4 ranks: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Pair players of equal rank. Increase/decrease player rank if player continues to win or lose against same ranked opponents. Simple as that.

So, basically the ranked we had with some adjustments…

Just a simpler form of it with no elitism, just simple good match making.

They could also implement a basic voting system in game where players can vote to ban certain cars in each class. If a car gets over 75% votes then it can’t be used in ranked racing in the next season. This would all be automatic.

I’m trying to propose ideas which address these issues, that don’t require much effort from PGG and won’t be deemed as toxic by the community. Heck let’s not even refer to it as rank, rather brackets. There are 4 brackets people… Bronze, silver, gold and platinum.
