I’ve just got forza 5 and finding it hard to play online with friends is it best to turn the ABS etc off I do have the racing line on or the breaking on.I just want no would it be best for me to turn the ABS etc off to
Please check out this thread. Lots of good stuff and really good explanations on assists and things.
A good driver will be quickest with no assists and manual with clutch. If you can’t control wheel spin or keep from locking up the brakes then you will obviously be quicker with TC or ABS. I can also make it around the track quicker than the suggested line tells me to.
ABS is slightly faster off but less of a penalty to have on in an all around case.
TCS is going to actually gain you time in some cars depending on class and how they are built.
You’ll be better off learning car control and learning how to consistently drive a car around all tracks without scrubbing speed off. It will take a bit to learn both, but a good tune can help in the learning process.
ABS off won’t magically make you a lot faster especially if the other aspects of driving are off. It makes little difference being able to slow down a little bit better if you’re line isn’t great.
Its been about a month now and i’m still not faster with clutch, any ideas were i might be going wrong?
How are you using it? What classes?
There’s an inverse relationship with clutch and higher the classes. While in D class you’ll get smoked without it, as you move up classes, in P or X you can get away with manual or even automatic.
You should be clutch and then shift very quickly. If you are letting off the gas while you clutch you will lose some of the acceleration benefits. T10 confirmed in FM3 that it is faster to shift without lifting. There’s only rare instances where lifting is needed to prevent wheelspin out of a corner.
Also a terribly built and tuned car or driving errors could also be issues.
Thanks I’m running A and B mostly, i’m hitting both buttons at once with my thumb,i’ll try what your saying by making sure i get the clutch first.

Acceleration is for sure faster with clutch and pretty ez to get the hang of. My guess is u are having issues braking and downshifting. This just comes with time and practice. Knowing how to drive fast with a manual in real life also helps a lot. Maybe go watch some instructional vids on YouTube.
I think it is best with assists on, I have tried both but like them on, racing line off tho, looks rubbish on

Players relying on assists will never improve while running assists. You might personally do better with assists on, but you will never get to where you’re better with assists off unless you’re running with them off. If you need assists to be competitive, you will always need them to be competitive until you spend the time being uncompetitive with them off.
As ever there is a wealth of advice available. If you are struggling still I would advise a small step back. Use automatic and concentrate on learning the circuits inside out. If you don’t know the track then you will never be quick. You need many many laps to identify lots of quirks, dips bumps and spots where there’s no need to brake. Remember that looking on here many of the posters are hugely experienced racers. It’s also easy sometimes to forget exactly how hard it can be at the start.
IMHO I would never advise someone completely new to FM to start off without assists. Treat the triggers as you would the pedals in a real car.
My Tips:
ABS: Run it off if you can. It might be a pain to get used to but it is worthwhile and it’s the only assist that will make you quicker in every class if you have it off. The difference in braking distance is reasonably large in my opinion.
TCS: D-B, Keep it off. Even in the rear drive muscle cars I find no TCS to be the way forward. A-X, if you’re running in the top .001% you will almost always need it on. Especially if you are wanting to run consistently at those speeds.
STM: Never have it on. Really that simple.
Line: I use the braking line simply because the sparse nature of some of the environments mean that there is little to no braking reference.
Gears: Manual (w/clutch if you can). Manual with clutch is especially important in the lower classes where momentum really is key. To make it easier for yourself, switch the handbrake and clutch buttons via the options. That way, you can hit both buttons with one thumb input. For example, to shift up, you’d hit A and B simultaneously.
I have finally a few weeks ago quit using assists. I have gotten faster. So far A through D class, no assist. I will Probably only use tcs for the highest 2 classes. I am a Thrustmaster user.
