Is FH4's CD Xbox one copy good for PC?

I’m bit confused that why don’t we have a PC CD copy for FH4.That’s why I’m asking

PC play is only available as a digital download,
The disc only works on Xbox One (and S and X) consoles.

See Xbox’s Play Anywhere feature FAQ: Xbox Play Anywhere | Xbox

Well could be something to do with the fact a lot of PC don’t have a disk drive any more Most new laptops don’t and most gaming PC don’t have one it is all digital all the way for PC now even Windows 10 comes on A USB drive now as standard.

and you would need over 100 CD’s or 10 to 20 DVD’s or 1 to 2 Blue ray Disk to load the game on to PC and that is a lot of CD’s or DVD’s.

Optical disc drives are becoming far less common in modern PCs in the age of Digital downloads. Blu-Ray drives in PCs never caught on because of this, and putting the game on DVDs would require at least 10 discs.

Yup, all the kids at uni are using surface tablets and macbook airs nowadays, majority of PC gamers skipped out on discs a long time ago.

Yup, Last 3 PC games I bought on disc are Sims3, Fallout: New Vegas, and Crysis: Maximum Edition. Meanwhile I have well over 300 games in my Steam Library.

Last one for me was GTA V and that was 7 DVD’s (I think). Disc based games just aren’t practical with the game sizes these days, even if blu-ray drives had become a standard feature of PC’s like DVD drives used to be.
I have a DVD writer in my system but it’s one I’ve added myself as I have a need to write DVD discs. It never gets used for games anymore. Even if PC games came on disc nowadays, all you’d get is an installer for whatever the client was that is hosting the game so you could begin the download.

Xbox Play Anywhere is for digital only. If you buy it on PC, you have to buy the digital version… which means you also get the Xbox version. If you buy the Xbox disk, you can only use that on the Xbox.

It also means its more expensive for PC owners to buy the game. No cheaper physical copies like you can get for the Xbox. It’s £50 or nothing I’m afraid.

Hi, so I am not a type of person who likes buying stuff from the internet with a credit or a debit card, so I usually try to find a physical code for a in game purchases or just buying a game. I was looking if I can buy Forza Horizon 4 without using Microsoft Store and I found that I can buy a physical copy of the game for Xbox, but I am a PC gamer and I don’t have any consoles. So I remember that with your Xbox live account you could play the same games on your Xbox and your PC, so I asked the store where they were offering preorders for the game if it will work the way that I was thinking. And they told me that in the box of the game there is no activation code, so there is no way to run it on windows and that console games usually need the disks from the boxes to play games, which was kind of strange. From what I know right now you actually dont need to buy a physical copy of the game to get it. On Xbox you could just buy it from the store with a credit or depit card and install it. So can I actually activate the game on my Xbox Live account and play it on my PC using a physical copy of the game compatible with Xbox One? I am asking, because the things that this guy told me didnt make sense. Also if I cant do that is there any other way to buy the game without using my credit or debit card?

I understand your trepidation about online purchases … but unfortunately you may need to adjust your way of thinking and your purchase practices. In all media and entertainment industries … gaming, TV, movies and music … physical media is on its way out. The future is digital content and streaming services. That’s just the way it’s moving and before long there will be no physical media available for purchase anywhere in the entertainment industry as a whole.

There may be a few like X-Plane and maybe some of EA’s releases, i.e. The Sims but they are few and far between. For PC these days you’re pretty much looking at digital only.

Some of this is already stated but the disc/box version is Xbox only. You cannot use it for PC. Digital download is the only option for PC. I understand your reservations about using the MS store but if you are willing to make an online purchase elsewhere you can get all versions from Amazon. They will send you a code (probably on release day) which you can redeem at the MS store and download your game. This would be your best bet IMO and the safest. I don’t know of any retail stores that will sell you a code but that may depend on where you live and the store, it’s not something I’ve tried.
This is what I did for FH3, FM7 and I will do the same for FH4.

Is the Microsoft store inherently unsafe or something. What has happened in the past to make people so untrusting to use the Microsoft store, anyone if there is worries about giving them credit card info you can top up your Xbox Live account with top up cards or use paypal to add money.
Another thing to note is that these days discs are pretty much pointless. The majority of games now have frequent patches and updates which makes the disc useless. Many games require you to download a day one patch which is usually fairly large and in some cases are just as big or bigger than the game on the disc. This is the case on both Xbox One and PS4. For the PC this has been the case for well over a decade.

It’s true that you can use PayPal and cards but the OP didn’t mention them so I didn’t bring it up. PayPal is how I get stuff on there that I can’t get elsewhere.
I can only speak for myself but there are three reasons why in my case.

  1. Back when I was on X360 I had trouble with my account because a couple of games had appeared on there that weren’t mine and I had being charged for. Whilst that was being sorted I had zero access to Xbox Live and my bank account was locked until it was all sorted (which took quite awhile). I don’t believe it was hacked, more like a technical cock up on their end but it left a sour feeling about them. My Amazon account has never seen any trouble which is why I consider them safer although that may not have been the most accurate word to use. I’m sure plenty of people have had zero trouble with the MS store.
  2. The MS store is pretty buggy. For one, I and many others on PC had to start downloading an app and stop it before we could launch FH3 and FM7 each time. There are times when access is down (more than other sites/launchers). That’s just one that’s affected me and I don’t trust buggy sites. A googly will bring up more issues people have. If they can’t get their own store sorted why would I trust them with my card details?
  3. Even putting those two reasons aside, the main reason is because I don’t want to use my details on ANOTHER site when I don’t have to. The more it’s out there the more it’s at risk, even with all the security measures in place - nothing is hackproof. If I can get exactly the same product through another site that already has my info I don’t need to give it MS.

If you insist on only using disc and insist on not owning a console, you won’t be able to play FH4 on your PC.

However, if you’re willing to play with a digital download on PC, you should be able to go into a retailer and pay them cash for a DLC code, then redeem that code online for the download, thus playing FH4 on PC without using a credit card. Alternately you could pay cash to a retailer for an Xbox gift card, redeem the card, then buy the game from Xbox and download it to your PC that way (I think that works, I just haven’t used Xbox gift cards in a long time).

Guys is there any PC game that even comes on a disc anymore? I know X-Plane does but that’s a flight sim. The sales on Origin and Steam give pretty good discounts. Better deals than Xbox store usually.

Is it possible to buy FH4 Xbox One disc edition, reedem a code on my Xbox account and play the game on PC?

No, you can use digital copies on PC.

There is no disc version available at all for PC.

You will have to re-buy the digital version of the base game. Any DLC you have purchased will transfer over though (since those are always digital).

Here is my 2 cents worth! As for digital downloads versus Physical Disc’s. Physical disc’s will be around for quite a while to come. At least here in Nova Scotia Canada High speed downloads are very, very slow. It took me over 2 days to download Forza Horizon 4 Standard Edition on a DSL line. I also bought the disc from Walmart for $39.99. Microsoft would not match the price which theirs was $51.99 for the digital download. This was a Black Friday Sale. My point is that the prices of their digital downloads are higher than what you can buy else where. They make more money on digital downloads. I feel that their should be a code included with the physical disc. Once the code is used, the game will stay on your account. As for stores that rent games. Have separate discs for them without the code, not the consumers that actually buy the games for themselves. You see when you buy the disc, the install on the Xbox One is in minutes not days or even hours but you have to keep the disc in the Xbox to play the game, which is a drag. Personally, I like the physical disc better because it installs in minutes!
