If you can’t get past the black window with the Forza logo, try uninstalling some DLC like vip, driver gear or hoonigan pack and download it again. This fixed it before the patch and also after the patch since i had the same thing. This all started when i upgraded to win10 1709.
For those still crashing to desktop after a second or two:
If you’ve changed install direction to anything else than default (C:)
Change it back to default:
-Windows key
-Settings
-Apps & features
-Forza Motorsport 7
-Move (to :C)
Worked for me.
I’d recommend making sure you have the latest Graphics drivers, along with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update ( https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 ). Manually set the Graphics options, don’t have them all on dynamic, and make sure that the FPS is limited to 60 (No V-sync).
I did this a week or so ago and I get no issues at all when racing anymore, only the CTD in upgrade and paint menus due to the memory leak.
Before this patch I had tried my own fixes including uninstalling and reinstalling add ons and graphics card driver instead of the GeForce Experience to stock standard Microsoft update version. This resulted in initial CTD then no more for that gaming session. Now with the latest patch I cannot start the game !!! CTD every single time. Unbelievably frustrating. Come on Forza team sort this out. How can you have got Forza Apex running so well as your foray into Play Anywhere and get it so wrong with F7.
Microsoft Surface Book with Performance Base i7 with 16GB ram and GTX 965m
Updated but still getting crazy amount of CTD from practically anywhere in the menu system, once I am in a race, no issues at all … the problem for me is actually being able to get into a race it seems
To be honest, it was such a small patch I doubt they attempted to fix much more than the VIP bonus, it was only around 50mb or so I think. With the problems everyone is having I would have expected a major patch to be several gbs at least. They do need to do something though
I confirm , still CTD despite the new patch
Latest drivers (388.00) , windows 10 uptodate.
I m so disapointed
2 races in multiplayer and the 3rd race , game crashed to desktop at “waiting drivers” juste before the race.
Game is broken
Patch only added VIP credits. All talk of it making things worse is just hyperbole.
You’re certain it only addressed VIP credits? Please link to the patch notes.
Not only the memory leak isn’t fixed, the game still stucks on saving after doing something with my cars.
The patch was the VIP credits fix, nothing more. The update patch is going to be huge. The latest patch was around 50mb
The Week In Review says otherwise: News - Forza
Indeed ,today , the patch was small.
But I really hope a new update soon , cos the game is unplayable for me in these conditions.
(too many crash in multiplayer mode just before the race)
I have only had the game crash twice. I don’t know if I am lucky or if its just my system.
Crashes somewhere between 1 and 3 races without fail. Can;t believe that they didn’t identify this during testing?
Only thing I can assume is that they said they’d release on a certain date and did regardless of the state it was in. This game is months (many) away from being released. Not doing T10’s reputation any good. Actually think this is going to make it very hard for them to sell F8 when it inevitably comes out.
Before the patch I did not get any CTD.
After patch, I am getting CTDs.
So frustrating. So many things.

I have been dealing with these crashes since launch… Every single time I try and race online it crashes to desktop and I try everyday to atleast get once race done but the crashes don’t allow me to.
YouTube is filling up with the “Unboxing” of the Xbox One X. Typical, hype up the masses instead of instructing T10 to fix MS’s flagship pronto, namely… FM7! Man, I can’t wait to see how FM7 will run on the “X”, in terms of stability and cause am curious as hell if it will have the same issues like the XBone & PC.
The most important factor for me, besides its stability, is the implementation of lightning!
Will the headlights have proper lighting? Like SEEING the light cast from the headlights, like in Project Cars 2 or GT Sport?
It annoys me every time when the game puts me in dawn or dusk time of day to see NO LIGHTS from my car whatsoever, even though my headlights are turned ON!
Try driving in heavy rain with thunder and lightning in cockpit view, a real pain in the butt! If we would SEE the light of the headlights in front of us, then it would be a world of difference!

Listen to Dan’s statement… https://youtu.be/g4zvGDzRRFI?t=370
“… FM7 is the most technically advanced and comprehensive racing game ever made!”… yeah, with no active headlights, very advanced indeed!
Look at the pit lane… why don’t we have this?.. is it exclusively for the “X”?
BTW, i’m almost out of options in what to do to prevent the CTD’s… already tried all kinds of scenarios, without any luck. Program is broken beyond believe.
I’m already over 200 CTD’s! … in 29 days of playing! a world record to say the least!
Check your “Event Viewer” within Windows so see how many you already have.
