CTD

Hi all, has anyone else had CTD’s after a race when in the car selection screens? The game freezes for 10 seconds then crashes, I have not been able to play this game since its release. I have sent all required files and feedback and am told I just need to be patient and await a fix, 7 months in and this game is still incredibly buggy, its just unacceptable. Are there any fixes anyone is aware of ? I have tried the page file method with no joy.

Thanks,

Jason

Let car images load before scrolling through the menu at blazing speeds. In fact, don’t scroll at blazing speeds at all.

Wish that were the case, it crashes as soon as I end a race, cant even get to the menus now, it is fine before a race, thanks for your input though.

I’m having the same issue. Just purchased the game yesterday (May 31 2018) and have had half a dozed crashes since that time. It seems to happen frequently right after a race is over or when loading a new track.

Have you tried rolling back the latest windows creation update?

Cannot roll back, there is no option for this in recovery options.

Would be nice to know if this issue is being investigated, freezes and crashes after every race as soon as you press continue, forzafb guys were not helpfull at all.

So before the June update my game would lock up and CTD after every race, installed the June update and the game now CTD’s on the track loading screen so cant even do a race.

When will this game actually work on PC ? This is beyond a joke now.

some here :frowning:

I have the same issue. My game has always crashed occasionally but since the windows update it crashes constantly. I’m actually getting it crash in races which never happened before. Most often its at the end of a race, when exiting back to the main menu before it loads the podium scene. I even had it today crash when it was just sitting there at the post race menu. I checked windows task manager to see what was happening with memory. I have noticed it freezes before the memory increases to 100% not the other way around. When it freezes the sound stops then after a few seconds the background music restarts then stops again when finally it crashes to the desktop. When I check the crash log, most of the time it says “out of memory” as the cause. But I wonder if that’s not the cause but the effect. Something causes the game to crash which then leaks memory until its all gone. I had it crash when the memory’s been more like 80% used and only after the freeze has it climbed to 100%.

This really needs fixing, but now they have Horizon 4 announced I hold out little hope.

Same here. Game is unplayable for me. 8 months and CTD all the time. Now is much worse then before.

I have the same issue.

Solved

After updating my System Intel 4690/GTX970 from 8 GB RAM to 16 GB RAM all Problems are gone.

I have Gtx 1060 6GB and 16GB ram and CTD all the time. Forza uses all graphic card ram. I don’t try another nvidia driver only newest one - maybe indeed this is clue.

It’s an absolute joke. I was so excited to get this on PC. I don’t game on consoles anymore, for various reasons. Being able to get this on PC meant that I could play my favorite racing series,

My CTDs are frequent and reproducible.

  • After a race the game will freeze for 10 seconds and then CTD.
  • After modifying a car, going back a menu will CTD.
  • Painting a car will CTD or changing colors too quickly will CTD.
  • Waiting for a multiplayer game CTD.

There are plenty more scenarios but these are the main ones. Here’s what happens when it crashes… RAM creeps up towards the limit, guaranteed every time. No matter what you do in this game it doesn’t release any of the memory. Busy liveries crash the game. Changing menus too quickly crashes the game. The game is advertised in the store with 8GB RAM on both minimum and recommended specs. This game can’t manage memory to save itself. My GPU runs at an average of 32% while playing the game and the CPU rarely goes above 30%. I don’t understand how this memory issue is not acknowledged on these forums or anywhere else. Read a few posts here, reddit posts, plenty of youtube videos and it is clear that the problem is widespread on Windows 10.

My specs:

Windows 10 1803 Build 17134.112
AMD Ryzen 5 2600 at standard clock.
8GB 2400Mhz RAM
A320M chipset.
GTX 950 overclocked (Strix factory overclocked) 2GB VRAM

Increased page file as suggested elsewhere, but this doesn’t help. When the game runs for one race at a time it runs flawlessly even with a mixture of medium and high settings. The CTD issue persists even when graphics settings are set to default dynamic or low. Really disappointing as I would love to play this game.

I’m considering logging the issue as suggested on this forum but the process to go through to get all of the logs just doesn’t seem like something I should be doing for a game that I’ve paid for and that was “designed from the ground up for Windows 10.”

Same issue here, have detailed in another post but it has not been approved. To the OP. I’m curious to know what kind of response you got from Turn10/Microsoft support? Seems that the issue is not being acknowledged yet if you look at any forum/community for the game it is known to exist.

Hi, I did all of the logging and everything else that support asked of me, all I got back was that they would send the info to the developers and were not at all helpful, dont waste your time reporting it, abysmal support, this was around 6 weeks ago.

To date I still cannot play this game, it was a mess from day one and still is, no acknowledgement of the issue so I would not hold your breath for a fix anytime soon.

Sorry guys, wish I could have had better news.

Should users seriously need to install/reinstall drivers to try and get the game to work, and should I have to sit here collecting logs and reproducing the error, no I should not, I paid for this game and it should work on day one let alone 9 months later, I will steer well clear of FH4, Turn 10 are a joke and their support is so generic its worthless.

Just a heads up to my fellow crash sufferers. I have tried a number of different Nvidia graphic drivers to see what difference it makes. The latest drivers are 398.11, which as we know results in CTD. I tried some slightly older drivers 397.64, with identical results. So then I decided to go back to a point I knew the game didn’t crash as much for me. The drivers I tried are 390.65 which I believe are the first drivers released at the start of 2018. With these drivers I have managed to race 6 laps at le mans without a crash, which I couldn’t do before with the newer drivers. Followed by 3 other races in one gaming session and today I managed to race another 3 races consecutively without a crash. I would say its probably the best experience I have had so far with this game performance and stability wise. Although not yet conclusive I would suggest the recent issues with crashes are related to the newer Nvidia drivers. So I now need to test to find the latest drivers that still work with this game. I’m using a GTX 750ti so not that powerful of a GPU.

Thanks!
I go back to 390.77 nvidia drivers and I play without CTD. This still not normal solution but works for now. Turn 10 please see what’s going on on the nvidia drivers.

Edit
On 397.31 CTD in second race

The last stable nvidia driver for me is 391.35. Next one (397.31) has got CTD.

You’d be better off talking to Nvidia about their scuddy drivers.
