[INVESTIGATING] Draw Distance (PC 1080p)

Im playing with everything on Ultra/Extreme and some textures look really bad. Also Draw Distance isnt properly working, its set to Extreme but trees and everything else look very bad from far away.

Anybody with the same problem? I saw some on reddit complaining about this

Same here. The Anisotropic Filtering is clearly broken and doesn’t work at all. Same for draw distance. The options doesn’t change anything. Low or Ultra, still looks same = very bad.
Also saw a number of people noticing it.
My PC is ok, btw (singnature). Also have newest drivers.

Here is some comparsion betwen PC and X1X, which isn’t broken. Look at the grass, it’s not even loaded on PC.

PC

XBOX

I can post more if this isn’t proof enough for some reason.

I REALLY hope it’s fixed at launch.

I agree with you, I’ve seen screenshots of the game looking much better. Im hoping the demo is dumbed down or something. I have the newest nvidia drivers as well. It performs great but I felt that something seemed like it was missing from the graphical effects. I was running it on ultra and Ive seen better in forza horizon 3.

It’s most likely bugged not dumbed down.
Maybe it’s just an error in the settings and it would be an easy fix, hopefuly. Been playing recently and those trees in the distance man. They look painfuly awful.

Bumping this in the hopes of right T10/PG person seeing this. It really needs to be fixed.

No grass whatsoever + all the other issues I’ve mentioned. Disgusting.

mine looks the same

I’m having the same issue on my xbox one s. The textures far away aren’t loading in and trees look like blurry blobs in the distance. I’m hoping this is just because this is the demo, and it will be fixed for the final game. It renders fine in FH3 but not for the FH4 demo

I found out that there were a few settings that go above ultra to extreme for Pc. After upping these settings it looked considerably better especially for draw distance and world detail.

That’s so wrong. The extreme option doesn’t do anything.

But I’ve seen a post on ResetEra where a dev is acknowledging the problem and they’re going to fix it (hopefully very quick).

Well, I’m on extreme from the start. And like I said there seems to be no difference between off/low and extreme, for both the LODs (Draw distance) and AF.

joke time on

Very smart devs, so everyone think the game is perfectly optimised and run @ultra on all rigs. Good for sales.

joke time off

To be sure … Did you guys deactivated the dynamic optimisation in the game ?? It could be the problem, if you did then there is really a problem and it reassures me a bit.

Yes. You have to turn it off to use the Extreme Settings. No difference though.

Can you send me a link where the devs acknowledge this issue please ??

I really don’t know where to search in this website.

So in the thread they talk about forcing anisotropic filtering via NVIDIA Control Panel. I fooled around with the settings a bit, not quite sure what I did but it looks a TON better for me now. Some of the transitions are still kinda wonky, but that may just be the way it is. Dunno if there was some rookie mistake here or what.

I’m still not quite sure how much of this is “working as intended”. I have a One S but it’s hard to do side by side comparisons with the demo and its restarts, and it’s hard to tell just what’s happening in other people’s XBX videos because 1) everything is so compressed 2) everybody drives so damn fast :). I get the impression that some of the transitions look pretty weird to me even on XBX, and definitely on the original Xbone. Still, I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks on PC it looks unacceptable.

Okay so I downloaded an older driver version from August and in the Nvidia Control Panel I set Anisotropic Filtering to 16x, anisotropic sample optimization Off, Negative Lod Bias to Clamp, texture filtering quality to High and trilinear optimization Off and it looks on par with the Xbox One X screenshot that was posted in this topic earlier.

After

However this only fixed the low res textures of course and Level of Detail/Draw distance is still kinda bad.

Well, interesting that the developer interacts on resetera yet not here, on official forums. I’m glad that they are atleast aware of the draw distance bug/whatever.
Now, it would’ve been nice if they noticed that the Anisotropic Filtering is NOT working too…

Interesting that it works for you. With the newest drivers the driver AF doesn’t work, that’s for sure. Either way I did notice the absence of Anisotropic Filtering with the older 387.92 driver I was using before updating to newest one because my game was crashing. I did try to force highest quality AF in NVidia panel with both the current and 387.92 driver, too ofc.

I’ll try to bump this thread in hope of getting this fixed…

Well, I played the game today and now I have the low res textures everywhere again.

Really no idea what’s causing this.

Aw man. Nothing new here except the same experience of this seemingly following the laws of random chance. I’ve managed to get AF working a few times, and then it’s broken again and nothing helps. Tried different drivers, different nvidia control panel settings, changing in-game settings… Sometimes it magically starts working, oftentimes not.
