Since the release of FM6 I have been learning how to tune and have been so busy doing that I have yet to really attempt painting. I am wanting to learn, but have no idea where to start. I like realistic race designs and would love create my own.
Are there any takers on being my mentor, lol?
Word… I’ll help you out as much as I can! I’m a “race” designer… basically my style of design is “race designs.” Specifically my main deal is retro NASCAR designs… but I’ve designed newer NASCAR stuff as well as some IMSA GT designs.
I’ll answer any questions you might have & give guidance w/n my ability… if I don’t know the answer… I got some peeps I can ask… especially my “mentor.”
Well there is plenty of painters around who you can call on to guide!
I’d recommend that you have a think about where you want to start…
Replica or Race Original and then just see what really grabs you.
To start maybe worth just borrowing what the sharefront provides in the form of shared logos and use those to help understand creating base designs and once the bug to paint logos grabs you go from there and start making your own so can share what you create!
First battle is picking a chariot to paint! Its sometimes the hardest part, well i for me!!
Create a gallery thread, post up progress and we can post in ideas or tips to help you along your journey.

My advice is just start painting, recreating logo’s and layouts… it’s the best way to learn. and post your process/progress on the forums! the feedback can be positive and negative… but either way you’ll learn something 
Thanks for the reply guys. I have made a couple quick logos and stuff, such as Mopar and Pirelli. However, I have a real hard time with placement and coming up with good base design.

If you want to do original race designs take inspiration from real race liveries to help give you layout and graphic ideas, good place to start, I can replicate liveries pretty accurately but I have trouble coming up with original designs from scratch so take a look at real world liveries that I like
Utilize pictures of actual race cars to use as your guide.
