Edit added: problem fixed. turns out if you have a non xbox controller attached forza MAY alter the keyboard handling. in my case i have a lexip pu94 3d mouse that can function as a joystick. if i unplug that the controller is removed and forza behaves normally again.
forza is the only game that has had this problem. why on earth they tied keyboard timing to gaming controllers is beyond me.
a couple days after the Mexico DLC was released I decided to log and check things out. immediately i noticed something was very wrong in my cars handling. every time I would apply even the smallest steering input, just a tap on my keyboard, I would see the wheel going instantly to full lock, hear the tires screech, lose around 500-700 rpm, and drop 3-4 mph. FROM A TAP!
I fan my inputs around corners to keep it nice and smooth to maintain the highest speed the tires can handle, and now by the end of a blue racing line turn I have bled so much speed that everyone fly’s by my car passing me as my tires scream blood murder.
what the heck have they done with the physics? its turned my collection of around a 100 hand tuned cars into garbage. I went from winning the majority of races I enter to now
being lucky if I am not in last place!
WHOEVER IS IN CHARGE OF THE PHYSICS BLEW IT!
EDIT ADDED: This appears to be an issue with the rate of rotation applied to the steering upon key press. normally this would be spread over a small amount of time, but in my case the steering goes to full lock instantly. More details below.
sim steering and hw assist are both off. thank you for the suggestions, however this isnt a thing on my end. this is directed squarely at the devs who changed the physics
I know you said nothing has changed on your end, but since it’s been a while since you played, it might be worth checking your deadzone settings. I feel like mine have changed in the past without me doing so. Just a thought.
They did change some things a while back, bet that is the issue you are having. I believe they did something with turn radius so that would explain what is happening to you.
i now have conclusive evidence of exactly what is going on.
steering is instantly going to max lock. this would normally take approximatly 1/3 of a second. im using forza 4 as the comparison.
i have tried cycling through all of the steering assists (i normally run no assist) and there is no difference. tired messing with all the paramters in advanced controls and they have no effect on keyboard that i can see. i have even deleted my entire user directory, validated my steam installation and nothing is fixing this issue.
Well, I’m gonna toss out this idea. Dealing with computers, stranger things have happened. But maybe try a different keyboard. Something could have gone wonky with your keyboard.
They will always use 100% lock, but the programmers can use a timer to count how long you held the button down for, and then make the wheel turn slowly. The keyboard may have a repeater speed such as…
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Which I suppose could alter the timer in the program. But I have never seen a repeater speed setting.
I’m well aware of how keyboards work. I’ve been building computers from scratch since IBM released the designs for open architecture. I’ve seen computers do some crazy things. It was a suggestion not a starter for a major debate. He claims to have tried everything else. Couldn’t hurt! 'Nuf said.
