Usually inclusion of people/players is better idea than exclusion of people/players. To attract people of quality, FM needs to DEVELOP people of quality.

  1. Inadequate reward for good sportsmanship.
  2. Insufficient consequence for poor sportsmanship.
  3. NO tools & guides to help new drivers get up to speed . . .

FM6 starts by dropping you into an unfamiliar car, on a brand new track, with assists not all people want. This is not a good introduction to any game; it’s setting up everyone for failure. Only objective it achieves is showing off a new car on on a new track.

There is NO guided course to teach proper driving/racing techniques so how is one expected to learn the craft? I can easily see a new player getting frustrated and letting the anger out in multiplayer. It’s not the logical thing to do, but perfectly emotional thing to do.

The world is already divisive with serious issues. Certainly we (good/clean drivers?) can be more inviting and united at least in multiplayer games. Aren’t we just looking for good experiences AND giving good experiences to others?

There always has been and will always be crashers/party-poopers. I would be more receptive to discussing strategies to converting those people and developing the new drivers than shutting them out.

CPL’s are the problem solver, not this IMO…

While having absolute power to kick players may solve issues for you, it doesn’t solve the issue entirely; it merely shoves those issues into somebody else’s lobby.

There’s also the issue of Custom Public Lobbies splitting the playerbase, and making the Hoppers more inactive.

If you’re going to have Custom Public Lobbies you need to go all-in and ditch the Hopper system. Gran Turismo 6 did this and the multiplayer racing was very clean, but the average grid was only about 50% of the maximum Lobby size (16).

Having both CPLs and Hoppers causes issues for both in terms of activity. Turn 10 prefer the Hopper system as it’s easier for players to understand; the ranked version (Leagues) works well but unfortunately isn’t popular enough to replace traditional Hopper racing.

I agree… the cpl are great but to be honest they can get annoying too. Look at pcars. You will have 6 gt lobbies and maybe one of something else. Then you start a lobby and you wait around and maybe people join, maybe not. But I like the option for cpl. I have met some good guys on pcars due to them opening up a decent lobby and i stuck around for a while. The downfall is you can rarely tell what the hopper is going to entail, if its frozen to one make/model if you dont have anything set up for that it will require you to buy the car and download random tunes until something suits you. Thats the other plus of pcars, being able to tune in the lobby allows you to jump in during the practice session and get a decent little tune on the car and go racing. I can see why forza wouldn’t allow this because coming up with the build and the tune while in the lobby isn’t likely. At the same token hoppers are nice because you can just hop in in a car you have tuned for that class and go and i dont really want to see them go. The reason leagues aren’t as popular as they could be is because of the time frame that is opened. If leagues were always opened allowing people of any schedule to go to “ranked” matches so they can be assessed and hopefully move away from dirty racers.

I think the only way to really do it is open cpl’s so if nothnig suits people they can create their own lobbies, open leagues up all the time. (you dont see call of duty closing the ranked matches for all but 2 hours a day), and also more than any of this, turn damage on! Yes you heard that right, turn damage on sim for all hoppers and leagues except for the ghost league. With damage on people will quickly learn you dont win a race in the first corner, and force people to drive cleaner. This will also completely ruin the wreckers fun too. They go into one corner wreck 1 person maybe, and then the wreckers race is over because his car is damages… hes stuck in the dirt ghosted on corner 1, and then kicked back to the lobbie for inactivity. He can either then wait for the race to be over to repeat this process, or he can go on to another lobby which often takes around the same amount of time as waiting for the lobby to end. Sure he is going to actually end someones race in doing this, but only being able to do it 1 time is surely a lot less fun than doing it the whole race.

Any thread with a constructive idea for improving multiplayer would have my support.

We could suggest to T10 that they have a lobby each week which trials an idea like this to see if it has a positive impact or not

I would race in leagues more if there was more choice. When i’m playing there are always only two lobbies open. One of which is ghost lobby (hot lapping in groups, not interested, rather do it by myself) or another lobby which, although interesting for a bit, gets boring fast because there are usually less than 10 cars to choose from.

I’d like to see plain jane c,b,a,s class as well in leagues, but as PJ Tierney pointed out, that would further split the player base.

Also, I like to invite my friends to my lobbies, and leagues are prohibitive in that regard. Some of my friends are pinnacle, others pro, others elite. Someone gets left out, so we move to hoppers, where we can race with each other.

I don’t think Turn 10 has implemented 24-player races only to have 5-10 player races most of the time, so that solution isn’t happening.

I support your initiative to try to make lobbies cleaner, but the idea, however well intended, isn’t viable from my stand point.

Being able to see a list of private lobbies would be nice, yeah sure it has its negatives like anything else. But being put in a lobby with random people with varying skill levels from all around the world is not any better. I would also like to see a multiplayer ranking system like the one that was in Forza 2 back in the game.

And/or bring back the Forza GT hoppers, the one from FM5 was one of the best matchmaking hoppers I have seen over my 9+ years of playing this franchise.

Tru-skill ranking is still being used for matchmaking but it works better when we can’t see it…remember all the high ranked drivers that would quit out before losing to someone ranked lower?

The real problem is the number of players doesn’t allow the system to work properly

Correct. TrueSkill still exists (it’s how League Divisions are allocated) but the actual number is hidden to prevent people “protecting their ranking”.

Also, matchmaking can’t do a whole lot if there aren’t enough concurrent players to guarantee adequate filtering:

As to educating new drivers , there is are many on line sites that teach race technics, driving lines, braking zones etc. Also info on drift technics available. But players would have to want to research and learn… lol!
A lot of newer drivers have developed their skills on arcade racing games, where bumping, crashing is rewarded… Then when in a more serious sim style game, I feel their bad habits follow them!
Maybe a dedicated thread to reference real world racing technics available would spark some interest and be helpful… along with earlier mentioned in game tips.

But there are no instructions that will help the dedicated ’ track terrorist’, ones who have a burning desire to take out any and all on track! lol…
A system to group crash and burn guys to their own hellish lobby would please me!

The issue is not a lack of information regarding racecraft education, but rather that the typical player doesn’t know such documentation exists.

That’s why I suggested the loading screen tips; it puts the advice in a place where they literally cannot miss it, while also being only a few seconds before they have an opportunity to actually try out what they’ve just learned.

I could do some mockups if enough people are interested.

I agree…thus my reference to your in game tips …

Back a few years ago, our club held rookie meets for new club members. Our experienced drivers helped many get their skills during those sessions. The pay back was a group of decent and competetive drivers who worked the track as a team… no big egos or dictators, just good drivers racing for the team with good track manners…
Those rookie sessions made our club meets a pleasure.
Private lobbies are way more enjoyable
