I came across something on the Net about removing a turbocharger and want to run it past....

As some of you might have known, or maybe not, the 1973 BMW 2002 has a turbocharger. And if one wanted to remove it I saw this tip on the net, which is:

Buy the newer engine in the engine swap, which is I think an M3 engine, and then once you bought it, install the stock engine back on. Well, the power drops like 40 HP and the PI drops a whole bunch too. So, the numbers appear like the turbo is gone. But, under the turbo options in the engine build section, it still shows the stock turbo charger checked. So… I can’t decide weather it’s gone or not.

What I did is put other engine upgrade parts to get the same HP level as I had before I removed the charger. But now it FEELS to me like the car has more power than it should.

Is this a glitch? If you use the car in the game will you get booted? Is it a corrupted car? I don’t really want to use the car if it’s a goofed up car now. I’ll just buy another one. Can you delete cars?

Is this something that like “everybody’s doing it” kind of thing. It’s kind of annoying in my book if that’s the case. Like any car with a turbo you just sell the original engine, install it back on and wallah you have more power than what your PI actually indicates. Or does it really actually remove the turbo and I somehow got magically faster with my BMW. Because it seems like it knocked 7 seconds off of my typical Road Atlanta hotlapping times. Just like that.

Or is the normally aspirated engine just that much better?

Oh, my brain hurts just thinking about it.

Either way my main concern is playing fair and not getting booted for some corrupted car, or locked out. I like the game too much to care about trying to cheat to be faster and have some kind of negative affect.

That’s known as the Aspiration Glitch. While it’s a glitch it’s perfectly fine to use and you wouldn’t get in trouble for using it. There’s a fair amount of cars you can do it to, for example, I did it with my Saleen S5S to bring it down to A Class.

So, you’re saying that the turbo is still in fact on the car, but the numbers don’t reflect it, right?

Unless I’m wrong, technically the Turbo is removed. However it’s just the game not updating the inventory in the upgrade list. It says it’s still equipped when in reality it’s not, hence why it’s called a glitch.

OK, that’s cool too. That would be better. I might have been just feeling the car wrong. I went back and looked at some of my lap times and I’m thinking it might not have been that much faster. It’s possible that the powerband is a little different in comparison. Because I built it back up to around 200 HP using a couple of different things. Like a cam and better fuel system, etc. So… It may be that it’s not there anymore. I’m good with that.

A naturally aspirated angine will drive differently to a turbocharged engine, which could explain the different feel.

According to some other people, it’s not naturally aspirated. I don’t think this works because when you do it, it goes back to the stock HP rating anyways. I might have to buy a new one to try it all over again, but I don’t think it worked.

Telemetry shows boost (if I remember right that is).
If you want - upload the tune to your storefront so others can see what is happening.

Good point about the telemetry. I’ll have a looksee.

I have no clue how to upload to a storefront. hehehehahahah. First time I was ever in someone’s storefront was today. hahehhehhehe
