I’m sorry if this seems like a really basic question, but I Googled for 45 minutes and couldn’t figure this out.
Is it possible to acquire a new car in the game without spending real cash? I’ve raced a few races and have some in game credit, and I would like to see my options for buying a car with that credit. But in the Marketplace, all of the prices for cars are in real dollars. If I can’t buy cars using the in game currency, then what can I do with it?

What you’re seeing in the Marketplace is add-ons, like buying an additional disc of game content.
Instead, you’re looking for the Buy Cars Menu. From the main menu, select the Career tile. In the next menu list, select Car. In the next menu list, select Buy Cars. There you’ll see all cars listed, available to buy with credits or tokens. If you’ve installed one or more packs from the Marketplace, then the cars included in that pack will be listed in the Buy Cars menu for free, but only once - if you want an additional car of the same model, it will cost your credits.
Credits are also used to buy upgrades for the cars.
You can also buy cars if you go into Career and League, where the game will offer you some cars that are eligible for the series you’ve chosen. In that list though the cars are upgraded to the top of the eligible class, and with upgrades installed, they cost more than the stock versions available in the Buy Cars menu from the main menu.
From the main screen - Press A to start - Careeer - Cars - Buy Cars (can use in game credits or tokens which are real money). The marketplace is just buying the DLC.
Of course you can buy cars with in-game credit. From the main tile screen select ‘Career’, then ‘Cars’, then ‘Buy Cars’. If you’ve just started playing the game, you’ll need to complete the first series of events before you’ll have access to the opening tile screen.
Something tells me you unpacked your Xbox, turned it on and pressed “next” “next” “next” while the game was telling you what to do and when to do it.
Something tells me the Original Poster may be looking at the Marketplace where you purchase DLC and not the cars that are available in-game which would all prompt for real money
Maybe so but with just 15 Gamerscore on FM5, I found it very obvious OP barely got past the first mandatory races and posted here before looking what game-options were where and how to continue the Career at all.
